Fedora :: Plugins Already Installed But No DVD Playback
Aug 4, 2011
It seems that no matter what I do, my box simply refuses to play DVD movies! I've already installed:
libdvdread libdvdcss libdvdnav gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad
As per the "Fedora FAQ", with the libdvdcss coming from Livna. Yet, even still, Totem will come back with "Could Not Read DVD". VLC acts the same.

I was having trouble getting my 8.10 box to restart... it appeared hung on a line talking about alsa (I don't recall what it said). I started back up and the volume icon indicated it was muted. I unmuted and, lo and behold, I have no sound. So, I tried to follow the alsa upgrade instructions at [URL].
When I tried to run the second script:
Code:
sudo sh ./alsa_2.sh
I got this:
cp: target `/lib/modules/2.6.2*/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko' is not a directory
cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver*/modules/*': No such file or directory
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-14-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-15-generic/kernel/sound/'
And now my volume indicates it's muted again, and if I try to adjust it I get this error:
The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.

I used the "sudo apt-get" command to install kile editor today. When the installation is finished I opened kile from the terminal and checked that it is working fine. But once I open kile, the following message appears:
[Code]....
I am worried if everything got installed properly. Also, Application>Office> is not listing kile. Therefore, I suspect that there has been some problem

I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.

I am trying to make the sound quality better on my Ubuntu.
I have read some tips in this topic: [url]. This made to go to this topic: [url]
It says there this: (If you are lazy to click )
Re: NEED better audio quality
Quote:
I can tell you flat out that foobar with the secret rabbit plugin, even without any internal or external equalizer completely tears up linux sound.
No, it doesn't.
In Linux you can easily choose Secret Rabbit in SRC_SINC_BEST_QUALITY mode as your system-wide sample rate converter by adding a single line to either /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc (requires libasound2-plugins and libsamplerate0 to be installed):
Code:
Now show me how to do that in Windows.
I have both of those packages installed, but for some reason the file asound.conf and .asoundrc are not there so I cannot add the line.

I'm trying out 10.04 LTS 64-bit from the live CD and when I try to play a MP3 or WAV file it gets the usual Search for suitable plugin? "The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file? The search will also include software which is not officially supported." Error message so I click Search and it comes up with the error No packages with the requested plugins found.
Is this because it is in Live Mode and installing 10.04 to my hard drive will fix it or does Ubuntu no longer support audio files other then ogg and other open source audio / video file formats due to copyright problems?

I installed firefox to test and gecko-mediaplayer, vlc, and more appear in aboutlugins from firefox but chrome only shows flash and mozplugger. I tried linking all of the plugins from the firefox directory to the chrome plugins directory but no luck.

I run in a problem today on Fedora 15
There are no Graphical User Interfaces showing up for DSSI Music Instruments.
This was the reason why ...
post from: [URL]
I have been trying to get the Editor to appear for DSSI-synths in Rosegarden for a long time. But no success. The same problem happens with jack-dssi-host and ghostess. Tried to put the hostname in /etc/hosts. Even tried with KDE.
But then I realized that I had no file /etc/hostname. Everything else worked anyway. So I made one, and put the hostname in it. And - halleluja - I have Editors!
So obviously these things (OSC?) looks for the file /etc/hostname.

I just installed F14 (upgraded from F13), and I wanted to install the PHP plugin for KDevelop, but yum reports no plugin packages. A friend has openSUSE and he found the plugins in the repos. Have the plugins not been packaged for Fedora yet? I just want to know that before I install them from source.

I recently got Fedora 11, I've heard it's not the best distro to learn Linux with, but I'm liking it so far, and having a good time
I've gotten the OS up, network works, and I'm using it now. So I'm trying to get a few plugins and applications and I'm having some trouble. Main two I'm working on right now are Adobe Flash Player and Wine. I downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player, but it didn't register that I had it on Firefox.
I took my laptop to best buy, and after about a half an hour, they said I was missing these libraries/plugins:
nspluginwrapper.i386
nspluginwrapper.x86_64
pulseaudio-libs.i386
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i386
libcurl.i386
They said they could do it for $100, so I'm trying to do it myself.
I found and tried to install the first one (RPM file), and it said it was incompatible.

I've just come from a website that had mpeg and x-aiff audio files, neither of which Firefox would play. I got the "missing plugins" banner, but when I clicked on install I was told nothing suitable was available.I was able to play the files, by downloading with Download Helper and playing in Rhythmbox, but surely there should be some plugin?

There is a thread in this forum that points to this website [URL] as a place for good directions on getting the new Java and the new Firefox to cooperate with one another. I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? I following the directions to the letter, but in the "aboutlugins" part, Java doesn't show up.

I have Fedora 13 installed on my laptop. Whenever I try to play any movie file, through Movie Player, it gives me the following error. Movie Player requirs additional plugins to decode this file
The following plugins are required:
* MPEG-1 Layer 3(MP3) decoder
* XVID MPEG-4 decode
Do you want to search for these now? Once I click on the search button, it searches for the plugins, and after a while prompts with the error message that the plugins couldn't be found. Where will I find the plugins?

Is there a way to select different flash plugins to use (e.g. the Adobe one, one of the open source ones) without having to uninstall the one you don't want to use at the moment and install the one you do want to use? I know this exists for Java with the alternatives command - does it exist for Flash?

had a computer with fedora 14 cd 32bit gnome installed - worked good got a new disk so installed the dvd version (pretty much all the packages) onto it - this is the problem installation.after installation i added the rpmfusion repositories and installed all codecs. Code: yum install gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins* -x *devel* same as last time although i may have let totem search for some prior to this command)
if you search it wont find anything, if you close it plays perfect,,, but. when loading previews in nautilus it has the loading icon/clock and then just shows the totem icon.also i have realised that it cant play wma giving error "The playback of this movie requires a GStreamer element audioconvert plugin which is not installed." - the rythmbox preview works though.
