Ubuntu Installation :: Installed Java But Can't Install Plugins
Apr 16, 2010
I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.
I installed java applet for Firefox. It seems that I get the same message all the time "Install missing plugins". The path libjavaplugin_oji.so is located at:
I try to install the java plugin but the java test pages show not installed. I have tried the openjdk-6-jdk package and the Oracle/Sun 1.6.0_26 version to no avail.
Is there some good instructions page someplace? I have yet to find a set of instructions that provides something clear that works.
I am having issues installing nagios-plugins using yum. Been using Suse don't have much experience with CentOS (CentOS release 5.2 (Final), ) Linux hoster 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 #1 SMP Tue Dec 16 12:03:43 EST 2008 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux It says
"Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::SNMP) is needed by package nagios-plugins" Whereas net-snmp-perl.i386 is already installed. yum deplist nagios-plugins Loading "fastestmirror" plugin Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.
Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.
There is a thread in this forum that points to this website [URL] as a place for good directions on getting the new Java and the new Firefox to cooperate with one another. I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? I following the directions to the letter, but in the "aboutlugins" part, Java doesn't show up.
I'm using 8.10, but wanted to upgrade firefox to the latest version, so I downloaded the tarball from their website and compiled that. FF 3.6 works fine, but I havn't been able to get my flash or java plugins to work since.
This is my first post and I'm pretty new on Debian. I had used Ubunu for a while now and I've decided to move on Debian Squeeze. But I've one problem: I've a Java programm to install and the installer is GUI Java based. When I run the script, I've the next message:
Preparing to install. Extracting the JRE from the installer archive.Unpacking the JRE.Extracting the installation resources from the installer archive.Configuring the installer for this system's environment.Launching installer Graphical installers are not supported by the VM. The console mode will be used instead. Preparing CONSOLE Mode Installation. But this program is not able to run the installation in console mode.
I've tried to install sun-java6-jre but without success.Has anyone an idea to help me install this programm? My Configuration: Debian Squeeze 6.0 amd64.
Am trying to enable Java on my firefox and however to-the-letter I follow instructions, there is no luck. Firefox still claims that it requires plugins. Here is my terminal output for what I have:
Code: sh-4.1$ ls -alh /usr/java/ total 24K drwxr-xr-x. 6 root root 4.0K Nov 29 09:36 . drwxr-xr-x. 14 root root 4.0K Sep 15 13:43 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Nov 29 09:25 default -> /usr/java/latest drwxr-xr-x. 3 root root 4.0K Nov 29 09:24 jdk1.6.0_20 drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4.0K Nov 29 09:36 jdk1.6.0_22 drwxr-xr-x. 3 root root 4.0K Nov 29 09:23 jre1.6.0_20 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4.0K Nov 29 09:25 jre1.6.0_22 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Nov 29 09:36 latest -> /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_22 sh-4.1$ ls -alh /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins total 376K .....
I get the error when I run the test page at [URL].
and I've been using windows alone until now. There is something I don't quite understand in ubuntu and that is where do you install programs (something similar to the Program Files folder in Windows perhaps) and is there something similar to registry, because I installed JDK from a downloaded binary and when I installed Netbeans it didn't see the Java installation, and where exactly are the system files?
im trying to run minecraft.jar which just freezes up at startup screen, wondering if i made a mistake in java along with that Firefox doesn't have a plugins folder i can find to put java into heres the files it has
application.ini libfreebl3.so libxul.so blocklist.xml libmozalloc.so Link to firefox chrome libmozsqlite3.so mozilla-xremote-client
I installed Cairo Dock for ubuntu 9.10 and I downloaded the plugins and extracted them to a folder. How do you install the plugins? I downloaded cairo-dock-plugins-2.1.3-2.tar.gz. When the download finished, I opened the folder and it requested I extract them, which I did. But I don't know how to use them.
I was having trouble getting my 8.10 box to restart... it appeared hung on a line talking about alsa (I don't recall what it said). I started back up and the volume icon indicated it was muted. I unmuted and, lo and behold, I have no sound. So, I tried to follow the alsa upgrade instructions at [URL].
When I tried to run the second script: Code: sudo sh ./alsa_2.sh
I got this: cp: target `/lib/modules/2.6.2*/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko' is not a directory cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver*/modules/*': No such file or directory cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/sound/' cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-14-generic/kernel/sound/' cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-15-generic/kernel/sound/'
And now my volume indicates it's muted again, and if I try to adjust it I get this error: The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.
I used the "sudo apt-get" command to install kile editor today. When the installation is finished I opened kile from the terminal and checked that it is working fine. But once I open kile, the following message appears:
[Code]....
I am worried if everything got installed properly. Also, Application>Office> is not listing kile. Therefore, I suspect that there has been some problem
I'm using Ubuntu jaunty and was using old version of pidgin until today. Today I had decided to install newer version of Pidgin 2.7 and uninstalled my old version from system. Because it had so many problem like not login to yahoo account.
I went to Pidgin website and downloaded Debian package for ubuntu. But got an error while installing. Finally I decided to install it from source package and downloaded it to install. While I try to make configure file by typing
Code: ./configure command, it gave me following error: Code: checking for update_panels in -lpanel... no
[Code]...
So I can not install Pidgin now. If I have to install it anyway I have to disable video and voice service for Pidgin. But I would like to use Pidgin with video and voice.
I am trying to make the sound quality better on my Ubuntu.
I have read some tips in this topic: [url]. This made to go to this topic: [url]
It says there this: (If you are lazy to click )
Re: NEED better audio quality
Quote:
I can tell you flat out that foobar with the secret rabbit plugin, even without any internal or external equalizer completely tears up linux sound.
No, it doesn't.
In Linux you can easily choose Secret Rabbit in SRC_SINC_BEST_QUALITY mode as your system-wide sample rate converter by adding a single line to either /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc (requires libasound2-plugins and libsamplerate0 to be installed):
Code:
Now show me how to do that in Windows.
I have both of those packages installed, but for some reason the file asound.conf and .asoundrc are not there so I cannot add the line.
This is what I have done[URL]...I download Linux x64 RPM I follow the instructions from there [URL]..now problem now is that after installing the java software, I'm still prompted by Firefox that I have not installed java. I have enable Java in Firefox. This is how I check Edit->Preferences->Content.

If you are interested, Java SE 6 Update 24 is available. The Check Java Version link in my signature will tell you if you are up to date or not. The Update Java Version link in my signature will tell you how to obtain and install the latest version. The 32 bit version install directions are on the left side of that page and the 64 bit instructions are on the right side.
Just remember to remove the current version before installing the new one as it says in the instructions. The remove instructions are below the install instructions. Also, in Step 9 - "Now you'll want to tell the system, that there's a new Java version available." See the note below it that says if you get an error upon entering the command once, enter it a second time. I have to do that and sometimes forget. Just thought I would mention that. These instructions are already setup for version 6 update 24, but they can be modified for any update and they will work. I have been using these instructions for a couple of years and they work.
I want to install java 6 update 18.Mine is 64 bit Ubuntu OS.I have downloaded jdk-6u18-linux-x64.bin file from sun.java.comBut I don't how to install .bin file in ubuntu. Before that can i use above file to install.
I have Ubuntu 10.4 with browsers Firefox and Chromium. Neither browser has Java. I want to install Java for both browsers. I have downloaded jre-6u20-linux-i586.bin and I have permission to execute it, but I don't know what folders to put it in before I execute. I need someone to educate me with detailed instructions because my computer skills are less than modest. Do I have to create folders? What is the command to execute?
i have followed this link to install the jdk7. [URL] but when I use sudo update-alternatives --config java that will give me possibility to chose jdk7, it seemed like that it is listed in the jdk installed.
I recently installed gtk+ for java on gnome. via sudo apt-get install libjava-gnome-java and after the installation i went to net beans, open it up and typed: import org.gnome.gdk.Event; I got a red line under the org part and a yellow line through out, meaning its an unused import. the red part is what I am concerned about: the error message is as states - pakage import org.gnome.gdk.Event; does not exist. but it has too because i installed the required packages from [URL]
