Ubuntu Multimedia :: Plugins Not Working In Rhythmbox 0.12.8 In 10.04?
Sep 11, 2010
I am having a real issue with getting Rhythmbox plugins to work. I have tried several of them and I cannot get any of them to work. I have them in the ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins directory and I have restarted rhythmbox and tried to open it from the console. I get no errors or any other indication that there are any problems. Is there something I am missing?
I have tried to download an "open containing folder" plugin from [URL] to [URL]. The site has been down for a while and I cannot find it anywhere else. how to get it? IMO this feature is definitely something that should be included as default.
I'm just starting to get a feel for it, and learning about the software. I can't get m4a files to play in Rhythmbox - it says it needs additional plugins, but I don't know where to find them. suggest a link for an m4a decoder plugin, or different software that can play m4a files?
I posted this as a comment and got no responses so I thought I'd add a new thread. Ubuntu (11.04 loving it so far new Ubuntu user)won't let me copy my plugin folder to /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins. I get an error window that says "Error while moving 'albumartsearch'.
There was an error moving the file into /usr/lib/rhythbox/plugins." and then there's a 'Show more details' tab that says "Error moving file: Permission denied". Pleaseeee help I'd really like to add album art to my music library as well as some other plugins for Rhythmbox!
I am having some trouble with RhythmBox. It runs fine until I install the package (Synaptics) Rhythmbox plugins 0.12.8-0. After I install this package and then open RhythmBox, the applications opens for a few seconds and then closes (terminates).Configuration is Ubuntu Lucid, 64 bit OS
I use shoutcast to select streaming audio stations to play, depending on mood, whim, whatever.when I click on 'tune in' next to the audio station, rhythmbox pops up....and that's that. I would expect it to just start playing the station. If I select 'Radio' in rhythmbox's upper left panel, and -then- click 'tune in' on the shoutcast page next to the station I want, there's an entry made in the playist at that time, but then there's an error popup says: Couldn't Start Playback You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins. Which is surprising. It's a shoutcast stream. It should just play. But anyway, I guess something didn't get installed in the default install.
I cannot seem to find plugins to play MP3's with totem. When I start it and try to play an MP3 it tells me "You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins." Where can I find the plugin for Totem?
I am trying to get my iphone working with Rhythmbox. I have followed the wiki but I fail at the point of creating the sysinfoextended. I can mount the phone in PCmanFM and read the data on the partition but it doesn't show in Ryhthmbox. Has anyone else managed this?
I've tried to contact the BBC on this but they cleverly seem to have made this impossible ! Does anyone know if there is a none Microsoft feed for radio 4, I have all my radio stations set up and working using Rhythmbox but cannot listen to radio 4 as it's a mms feed.
Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor. Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.
After a month or so on a WUBI install (Lucid Lynx 64bit) I decided to pass to a clean install to a dedicated partition and here I am, almost happy. I have installed 5* ( uninstalled & installed) gedit-plugins package by every means I know of (apt-get from terminal, ubuntu software center, synaptics) and I also have downloaded and unzipped the package to ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins folder. But none of the plugins is working.
I don't know if it is relevant, but i noticed the following: on my wubi installation i had installed gedit-plugins with apt-get and it had installed in the ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins folder. Now I find the contents of the package in /usr/lib/gedit-2/plugins and /usr/lib64/gedit-2/plugins. I don't know if it has anything to do with anything.

I have Debian 6 installed. Is there a way for the web browsers (Iceweasel and Chromium) to recognize the multimedia plugins (gstreamer0.10) that were installed? about:plugins in the browser, references Gnash as the only plugin available.
I am relatively new to ubuntu and have all sorts of problems. First of all, none of my depositories work, but I'm fine with this. I think it is due to my uni wireless connection, as I haven't been able to update any linux distro here. That's the reason why I couldn't fetch the MPEG 1 Layer 3 (MP3) plugin that Rhythmbox offers me to download. So I looked for alternatives.
I installed some restricted extras package from the official ubuntu databases, but it was only 6 KB (should it be that tiny?) and when I tried again, it still wasn't working.
I have a peculiar problem, that I haven't been able to find any other posts mentioning. Firefox is getting confused over my plugins. about:plugins show an empty list but the plugins tab of the Add-On Manager show them all and says they are enabled. It was working a week ago without any issues whatsoever. Probably an update broke something. Any ideas, anyone? Or people with the same problem?Plugins are Shockwave Flash, Sun Java, VLC media player and others.Firefox 3.6.8Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx
I install foxytunes, if you look at their supported players page you will see a list of windows players, that we dont care, a list of linux players, and cross platform players...
[url]
Ok, I install it, like in windows, pressing install, like all firefox add-ons, It restarts firefox, and I only see the cross plataforms player, no linux player is at the list, and a message in the top of the cross plataforms players "No player modules found, check installation", Im translating spanish to english, so in english it can be something similar.
Is there anything I should install so foxytunes works with linux players?
I'm installing Sound Juicer to rip CDs. The notes say it wants "gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad (not available in Debian) to encode to AAC." Now I don't know as I'll want to encode to AAC (I primarily plan to rip to .wav for burning compilation CDs), but I figure I might as well grab it, for completeness . I noticed, on Google'ing for info on that package, comments that seem to indicate its functionality has been replaced by gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. So, do I still "need" gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad?
Up until recently I have had no problem playing all kinds of video in Ubuntu. I recently upgraded to Lucid and I can't remember if I was able to play videos after that, but yesterday I found that I am unable to play flv or MP4 videos in either totem or vlc. Converting them to ogv using ffmpeg allows them to play just fine, and I can edit the flv and mp4 in Avidemux, so there is nothing wrong with the files themselves. Not sure what I've done, can't seem to find a bug in launchpad for this, so I am assuming it is a problem with my setup somehow.
I decided not to use Photoshop in wine on my computer but to only use GIMP because I heard there is so many free plugins on the internet that makes it function almost exactly as Photoshop.I install plugins but then GIMP wont open at all.I did a complete fresh install of 10.04 because I was having this GIMP problem after installing gimpshop and installing Photoshop 7, I figured it was the Photoshop that caused the problem
So now with a complete fresh install GIMP still wont work with any plugins installed.is there something i need before I can add any plugins or whats going on?
I'm trying to upgrade from Rhythmbox 12.5 to Rhythmbox 12.8. I did everything, I'm supposed to...I think. But when open Rhythmbox and click on "help -> about" I still get 12.5 as the version number. Here is what I've done:
1. Downloaded tar ball from rhythmbox site 2. Unzipped it to desktop 3. Ran apt-get update
I use Ubuntu for my programming and work but want to watch .movs or listen to .mp3s... only problem is the anti-circumvention law in the USA. So what I'm really trying to find out is what's legal and what's not? is reverse engineering an mp3 file to a file that ubuntu can read illegal?
Is it legal to use restricted software/formats/plugins? I read a lot, but I was not able to find an answer.I'm talking about usage of mp3, flash, nvidia drivers, gstream plug-ins.I read that it depends on the country, but I couldn't find the list of countries where is it legal where not.(im from Lithuania)
When I enter certain sites that only support windows mp plugins, I cannot view the content in those sites! Is there a way to enable these plugins in ubuntu 10.10? Another problem I have is when trying to play videos on ....., everything works fine until I click on the full screen button... then the sound goes on but the picture freezes! My computer is a laptop Packard bell EasyNote TH.
I am trying to make the sound quality better on my Ubuntu.
I have read some tips in this topic: [url]. This made to go to this topic: [url]
It says there this: (If you are lazy to click )
Re: NEED better audio quality

I can tell you flat out that foobar with the secret rabbit plugin, even without any internal or external equalizer completely tears up linux sound.
No, it doesn't.
In Linux you can easily choose Secret Rabbit in SRC_SINC_BEST_QUALITY mode as your system-wide sample rate converter by adding a single line to either /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc (requires libasound2-plugins and libsamplerate0 to be installed):
Code:
Now show me how to do that in Windows.
I have both of those packages installed, but for some reason the file asound.conf and .asoundrc are not there so I cannot add the line.
