I am using opensuse 11.2. The totem video player states that I am missing a gstreamer plugin. I checked to see that gst-ffmpeg plugins is loaded, also libdvdcss, libdvdnav, libdvdplay, and libdvdread are also loaded. I would like if someone could please tell me what gstream plugin I'm missing, and where to place it.

Have very recently installed OPEN S on my PC. The DVD player( why is it called TOTEM? ) won't work. It asks for some plugins without saying which ones exactly. Have tried to follow some links it suggested but to no avail (me being too bleeding brainless, I presume). Am sure that eventually will find out the solution but for the time being stuck and not able to watch some of Hollywood's greatest masterpieces on my machine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.
had a computer with fedora 14 cd 32bit gnome installed - worked good got a new disk so installed the dvd version (pretty much all the packages) onto it - this is the problem installation.after installation i added the rpmfusion repositories and installed all codecs. Code: yum install gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins* -x *devel* same as last time although i may have let totem search for some prior to this command)
if you search it wont find anything, if you close it plays perfect,,, but. when loading previews in nautilus it has the loading icon/clock and then just shows the totem icon.also i have realised that it cant play wma giving error "The playback of this movie requires a GStreamer element audioconvert plugin which is not installed." - the rythmbox preview works though.

Earlier today I downloaded a video of a Mozilla Project preview, in MP4. Of course, it won't play. All I get is the audio, and this error:

I put in some time, researching this issue, trying to figure it all out. I guess I'm looking in the wrong places. Is this a proprietary format issue? Also, when I was overdosing on XP, my media drug of choice was Klite mega codec pack (from codecs.com). It literally plays every media format, audio and video. In addition to fixing the above issue, can somebody guide me to an equivalent player with codecs for [insert any media type here]? I have several Terrabytes of various video and audio files, and prefer to not convert them all.
this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.

* MPEG-1 Layer 3(MP3) decoder
* XVID MPEG-4 decode
Do you want to search for these now? Once I click on the search button, it searches for the plugins, and after a while prompts with the error message that the plugins couldn't be found. Where will I find the plugins?
When I am clicking on Downloads or any other menu item in "Places" menu its opening the totem player. Whats the problem ?

When I started looking at it in detail I see Totem is using up 95% of the CPU which kind of explains it doesn't it. But it still shouldn't be doing this. I then tried the same DVD's using Gnome Media Player and all is fine, perfect video/audio and normal CPU usage.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was listening to music one day, and I decided that I wanted to watch a video on my laptop, so I put in the DVD, click play, and suddenly I'm missing the Windows Media Player 8 decoder. I try some of my other videos (of different formats, including .FLV and .AVI), and they're all missing different decoders. Also after that, and ONLY after that, RhythmBox can't find the decoder for .WMA files, yet it still plays .mp3, .ogg, .flac etc. I snooped around and downloaded various gstreamer plugins, and when that didn't work, I tried reinstalling all of them. Still no luck.
In short, I think part of my decoder and plugins folder got corrupted or deleted. VLC will play everything still. This is something I find bizarre.
I have been searching the internet in vain for the names of the packages that provide the following plugins for kdevelop in Debian Squeeze. The missing plugins are preventing me from testing the written programs.
Missing plugins:
1) C++ support
2) kdevcvs
3) make builder
4) output view
5) QtHelp
6) Subversion
The icons representing these plugins are all a question mark. I am assuming that means that they are missing. Needless to say, as it is, kdevelop is useless.
I've got a clean Fedora 14 x86 install and whenever I attempt to play a video file, .avi .mkv .mpg doesn't matter, Totem crashes with the following four pop-ups:

no sound on playing .flv files, the volume control greyout. however vlc can play them without sound problem. videos also works without problem on sound.
after upgrading and install the recommended plug-ins for Ubuntu, the most part of songs I open with Totem Player, I can't browse by the time bar, its disabled. It moves but I can click and drag to surf it...
