I had just downloaded and installed Ubuntu. I had to manually install the Software Center. So I did that and installed a bunch of things including OpenJDK and its browser plugins. OpenJDK caused trouble in a game I play, so I installed Sun instead. However, that's the old version. I followed the above instructions, removed the old verisons and attempted to install the plugins. But unless I use the Software Center, it doesn't work. I'm cutting and pasting exactly and nothing shows up in my aboutlugin screen.

I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? I get the error when I run the test page at [URL].
I'm using 8.10, but wanted to upgrade firefox to the latest version, so I downloaded the tarball from their website and compiled that. FF 3.6 works fine, but I havn't been able to get my flash or java plugins to work since.

I have both of those packages installed, but for some reason the file asound.conf and .asoundrc are not there so I cannot add the line.
I'm having a very strange error after upgrading to (K)Ubuntu 10.04.. basically Java Applets don't work in any browser (tried with Firefox, Chrome and Opera). The applet loads (plugin and JVM detected by all browsers) but it is grayed out. After trying all possible solutions I could think of (including installing alternatives jvm) I tried to run the browser as superuser: the applet is then working correctly. So somehow it seems to be a user right problem, but I'm not sure where this is coming from, both java (sun-6) and the browsers were installed and working ok in 9.10. i have the machines with both fedora12 and fedora13 installed. i am unable to view some java applet applications in 64 bit firefox.so i am looking for of installing 32-bit firefox in my machines(after tested and confirmed with one of my rhel-64 bit machines).but i am clueless how to achieve it in fedora12 and 13. i tried yum inastall firefox.i386 then firefox.i586,and then firefox.i686..but dint find any expected results.

Recently it appeared to me that my java-plugin is missing. (apparently I don't need it that often).
I've had various upgrades of firefox on my machine, currently i've got version 3.6.13.
I tried to check the plugin directory for the java-plugin - only to find out that I have more than one:

I don't like Firefox 4 and 5 so I uninstalled it and installed FF 3.6.19 manually in the /opt directory. It works really well. I wanted to add a java icedtea plugin to FF. But I can't use Synaptics. Synaptics does not see the FF 3.6.19 - it does not know it's there and will try an install FF5 if I use it to install that plugin - makes sense it would do that.
How do I get a java plugin installed considering how FF is implemented on my system?

Is there any where i miss or i install the symbolic link in the wrong plugin folder? where does the firefox read its plugins?
I am using opensuse 11.2. The totem video player states that I am missing a gstreamer plugin. I checked to see that gst-ffmpeg plugins is loaded, also libdvdcss, libdvdnav, libdvdplay, and libdvdread are also loaded. I would like if someone could please tell me what gstream plugin I'm missing, and where to place it.

I tried the "rpm", the "yum", and the "tar.gz" from the adobe site. Both rpms installed fine but I still can't view flash content in Firefox (missing plugin). The .tar.gz contained a .so file, but the installation instructions for the flash player said I should see an installer file in the .tar.gz, but I do not. I can't believe I can't even get flash player working. Their instructions said to check under "Help > About Plugins" but obviously Firefox does not and has never had such an option. I hate Adobe.

I have been using Eclipse to program in Java for a long time, and have been using Jigloo for most of my GUI design. Recently I decided to try out the C/C++ plugin. I tried installing it, but it did not work. After many attempts, I finally gave up. However, after uninstalling it I found that Jigloo had stopped working. Any other plugins I try to install now also don't work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling plugins, and reinstalling eclipse, but nothing I have done fixes it. Although eclipse says that the software has been installed, nothing shows up in the features list or the plugins list.
Another problem: When I install eclipse from the repositories, it doesn't install a bunch of libraries and eclipse cannot recognize standard java files.
