Ubuntu Multimedia :: Studio 9.10 MIDI Input From Sound Card Not Working
Mar 21, 2010
I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
Stupid browser froze up when I tried to submit this before... *sigh* Anyway, is there a simple midi editor that that isn't Rosegarden and doesn't require JACK? Something would simply let me load a Soundfont, and then edit and export a multi-track midi file without a bunch of other stuff you have to do?
I have had trouble with my sound since installing. I have been able to get output sounds to work by setting my sound output to:Internal Audio Digital Stereo (IEC95 instead of:However, my microphone does not work. I know it was working earlier on but I can't figure out what the settings were at that time. Are there any ideas on what I can try to get the input and output audio working correctly?
I've tried to look for a solution for a few days now, and haven't had any results so far. I really hope you can help me so I can get to talk with my girlfriend.I'm running Lubuntu with 10.04 LTS, and alsa version 1.0.23 on Samsung NC10.Hardware works, soundcard is recognized by the OS, modules are loaded, alsamixer volume up and unmuted, sound output is ok, arecord or sound recorder don't get input.
- The microphone hardware works. Having the volumes up I hear the noise from the speakers when tapping the microphone. - Soundcard is recognized by OS (and like I said, music and all other sound output is perfectly fine)
Here's the problem of mine: I cannot make my EMU10k1 based sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) to play midi.
What I tried to make it work so far: 1. Install sound fonts: unison.sf2 and FluidR3_GS.sf2 2. Use asfxload to load these soundfonts. 3. Check if they are truly loaded:
Here, "enable_msi=1" was not initially included in sound.conf, I added. After adding I find that volume change buttons are working, but sound is not coming. Mixer channels are all set to active mode and vol is MAX to 100. Mixer channels show two tabs -- one showing HDA_Intel and the other showing HDA_ATI_HDMI. Mic Jack mode is Line_in.
I know there are heaps of sound problem threads around here, and I've been through them all and I still can't my sound to work.I have the motherboards onboard audio which works perfectly when I plug in speakers.I want to use my Creative Xfi xtreme audio. When I select it as the output for my sound, it freezes my audio players and firefox when I try.I don't know what the following means, but this is what ople need from other threads.tim@ubuntu:~$ uname -aLinux ubuntu 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
tim@ubuntu:~$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC889A Analog [ALC889A Analog]
My laptop is Sony VAIO. I installed ubuntu. However i dnt get sound. My sound card is not working i think. How can i install my sound card here in ubuntu.
I have been researching this for a few days and I am getting nowhere. All I want to do is play midi files in Ubuntu 10.04 and also in Firefox. If I install, for ex. Rosegarden it will play the midi but without sound.I have timidity installed as well as mozplugger. From the start midis partially work in Totem, but the sound is far from right.
I never had this much of an issue with midi before, really starting to irritate me.Is this a pulseaudio issue? I really don't feel like playing around with jack either, never have luck with it. It seems that installing timidty should have allowed me to play midi files on my computer.
I installed a minimal Ubuntu install, and I can't get my MIDI to work. I have timidity installed, alsa-utils, freepats, jackd, and jackd2 installed. As for my sound card:
I upgraded to UBUNTU 9.10 and now my sound card is not working. The card is listed in the sound preferences Hardware but not in the input or output sections.
I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.
I have a EMU 1616m sound card and I can not get it to work with Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10. At the boot sequence I get the message that firmware could not be loaded. However, when I use another Linux distro PARDUS that uses KDE, the card works perfectly. With KUBUNTU i don't get any chance either. I think it is a kernel problem but both distros have the same kernels. So, this is not a KDE vs GNOME problem either as KUBUNTU did not work it either.
I have two sound (or audio) hardware on my desktop computer. One is part of my computer motherboard and the other one is a sound card (CA0106 Soundblaster) I bought to replace the other one. When I first installed Ubuntu, my sound card was working properly after I made the necessary changes (system>preferences>sound), but after a few days it just stopped working and the sound from the motherboard is only working.
I reinstalled Ubuntu to my computer a few days ago, and my sound card was working again, but once again, it stopped working after a few days. How can I fix this?
I have just installed kubuntu 10. My mobo is ASUS p7h55, which hastwo on board sound cards, one for stereo and the other for outputting sound through the hdmi link. When I connect my TV through HDMI, there is no sound. I go to Phonom, and there is only one card in the card selection box.I run aplay -l, and both cards are listed
my creative sound card isnt working with my ubuntuit's my 1st time to use ubuntui have a built in sound card but it's not workingwritten Ectiviai dont have an ectivia soung card i have Creative and Realtiki want the ubuntu to install the Creative
Earlier I was in windows to do school that I had to do in windows. I shut my monitor to suspend my computer, which disables my sound card. Later on I went back into ubuntu and forgot about it. Ubuntu had updates to the system and since then I have not been able to get my sound to work.
I am unable to get the hdmi audio for from my graphics card to work. I do not have any speakers to test the other two, and redundant, sound cards .My graphics card is the Nvidia gtx 285, I auto installed the drivers via ubuntu. It does not show up in the hardware tab of "sound preferences". It's not muted, I can't find anything relating to sound in nvidia-settings.but here is my aplay -l:Quote:
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 rt (realtime) kernel on a Dell box and trying to hook it up to a Yamaha P-80 keyboard. I'm not sure how to figure out what kind of MIDI cable I'm using. But I haven't been able to get the keyboard to play or write music on my Ubuntu or on Windows XP.
1.) How can I give you more information about my system? 2.) How can I test if it's working properly?
There used to be a selector where you could set which microphone or line input should be used in KDE 3 (Kmix). Now, in KDE 4 it is gone and I cannot figure out how to set it. i.e. to change from using an external mic to the internal mic.
I just bought an M-Audio Keystation 49e off of craigslist and I'm at a bit of a loss on where to start to use it as an input device for muse or rosegarden.
Everything seems setup, but I'm at a loss on how to use it in the applications. It doesn't have any sound synthesis abilities on the keyboard, it's just an input device. Without the keyboard I usually go this route:
jackd -R -d alsa & timidity -Oj -iA & rosegarden
And midi events output sounds and all that jazz. I'm wanting to input notes / record from the keyboard. But still output all sounds in the aforementioned manner. If I could get those to happen while I record that would help a bunch. Maybe it's just too late in the day for me to wrap my brain around it at the moment.
I am using OpenSuse 11.2 on a Dell Studio laptop. I have sound through the internal speakers, but no sound through the headphones.I am using KDE and Kmix does have a volume control for the headphone, and it is not muted. None of the sounds are muted.I have run the alsa update as described in another thread and that did not help.
SOUND from analog Capture is out of sync in Pinnacle Studio 14.
[code]...
This problem can occur during capture from an analog capture card if CPU utilization exceeds 95 percent. To avoid this problem, configure virtual memory to be "System managed" by following these steps:
1. Choose Start -> Control Panel. 2. Open the System control panel. 3. Click the Advanced tab. 4. Click the Advanced tab. 5. In the Virtual memory box, click Change. 6. Select System managed size, and click Set. 7. Click OK.
Strange thing is that the headphone jacks still work just fine. Used to be that unplugging the headphones would cause the sound to come out of the laptop speakers, but now sound never does. I'm wondering if the software that controls the routing of sound between the speakers and the headphone jacks is messed up?
So I have this cable going from a cassette players "phones" jack to my computers input jack but there is no sound coming from my speakers though it did with Windows XP.
I've been running Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell Studio laptop for a few months now with no audio problems. Last night I was listening to music just fine, then put my laptop to sleep and went to bed. Today, I go to play music, and nothing comes out of the speakers. Both headphone/speaker jacks work, but when I unplug the headphones, nothing happens.
