View 9 RepliesJust installed an Asus Xonar DS sound card. Installed the latest ALSA 1.0.23 drivers. The new drivers see my sound card just fine:

I recently installed a startech PCI usb expansion card...All went well and all external devices connected show up without a hitch. However a day ago The card/devices just STOPPED. I rebooted and no avail. Rebooted a second time got a IRQ 19 failure error. Then on a third try It showed up and worked fine... This has happened twice. Here's my IRQ print after running cat /proc/interrupts
CPU0 CPU1
0: 132 3 IO-APIC-edge timer
1: 0 146 IO-APIC-edge i8042
7: 1 0 IO-APIC-edge
I am assuming that the second to the last entry is the pci usb card. Is there a way to home in more deriectly to find and troubleshot the problem and see if its module or IRQ?
I know there are heaps of sound problem threads around here, and I've been through them all and I still can't my sound to work.I have the motherboards onboard audio which works perfectly when I plug in speakers.I want to use my Creative Xfi xtreme audio. When I select it as the output for my sound, it freezes my audio players and firefox when I try.I don't know what the following means, but this is what ople need from other threads.tim@ubuntu:~$ uname -aLinux ubuntu 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 22:02:19 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
tim@ubuntu:~$ aplay -l

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.
I have a EMU 1616m sound card and I can not get it to work with Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10. At the boot sequence I get the message that firmware could not be loaded. However, when I use another Linux distro PARDUS that uses KDE, the card works perfectly. With KUBUNTU i don't get any chance either. I think it is a kernel problem but both distros have the same kernels. So, this is not a KDE vs GNOME problem either as KUBUNTU did not work it either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two sound (or audio) hardware on my desktop computer. One is part of my computer motherboard and the other one is a sound card (CA0106 Soundblaster) I bought to replace the other one. When I first installed Ubuntu, my sound card was working properly after I made the necessary changes (system>preferences>sound), but after a few days it just stopped working and the sound from the motherboard is only working.
I reinstalled Ubuntu to my computer a few days ago, and my sound card was working again, but once again, it stopped working after a few days. How can I fix this?
I have just installed kubuntu 10. My mobo is ASUS p7h55, which hastwo on board sound cards, one for stereo and the other for outputting sound through the hdmi link. When I connect my TV through HDMI, there is no sound. I go to Phonom, and there is only one card in the card selection box.I run aplay -l, and both cards are listed

I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
I am unable to hear any sound at all using my M-audio delta 44 soundcard (which works fine in Windows - Dual boot).how I can get this working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am setting up a mythtv/xmbc box on Ubuntu 10.10 (natty does not install on my hardware). I have a Sabrent TV PCIRC tuner card, which seems to work fine with the proper card and tuner settings. My on-board sound is HDA-Intel surround sound, which I have configured as analog duplex.
Currently the sound works fine through my speakers plugged into any jack on the back of the PC (two speakers, one jack). I can watch ripped movies and listen to music. The TV tuner is pumping sound from its external jack -- if I hook it up directly to the speakers it works fine. I can feed the Tuner's sound to the line-in on my motherboard, but nothing comes out. In the sound manager, i have the input device selected and the input level shows that the sound is coming in through the connector, and I can test the speakers and they work fine, but they don't seem to be communicating that the sound coming in needs to be pumped out through the speakers.
I have installed xubuntu version 10. My sound card is a Yamaha dS-1S, and seems to be properly configured. Alsa mixer doesn't indicates any error. However, I can't manage to get any sound. I have checked that jacks are correctly plugged.

In my ubuntu 11.04, the sound seems not so clearly, seems something bass.
It's OK in windows 7.
I don't know how to config the sound card, or, is there any drivers updates on my sound card?
I have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.
Anyone know which of these cards will work on Suse 11.4?
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Asus Xonar DS
I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I have decided to move my laptop over to openSUSE after a terrible experience with Vista. I have some experience with Ubuntu on a desktop, but I'm a brand new suse user. I installed 11.3 but haven't been able to get any sound out of it.
The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ45-307tx (more specs at link below)

I have a desktop pc which is running Ubuntu 9.10, and for some apparent reason I am not getting sound from my sound card. No error message is coming from o/s, I have checked the sound card with head phones, still no sound. Now, I have checked my sound card, because on the same desktop pc, I have another hard drive, which runs Windows XP Professional, and my sound card works perfectly! Please note that I have two hard drives on my pc, one for Ubuntu and the other for XP. So, there is no conflict on operating systems.Does anyone know how I can resolve my sound problem - my sound card is a Creative Audigy 2 Sound Blaster.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPlaying a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

I am having some trouble with my sound card, for what I understanded is not detected on my kernel, my kernel is the following: 2.6.26-2-686. I got a Debian Lenny Stable with Xfce4, my sound card comes incorporate with my motherboard that is an Asus P4S800D-X and my sound card is a SoundMaX.
I am sure that the kernel doesn't recognize it because when I put on a terminal: lspci | grep Audio, I don't get nothing. Also when I go on my Xfce task menu to Settings >> Mixer Settings, I just get a default mixer setting with no audio channels or nothing. I got all my alsa drivers intalled too.because I tried to go to www.asus.com homepage (Motherboard Manufacture) and I cannot find the driver of the sound card for linux.Where I can get this driver? Or can I update my kernel with Lenny stable version? if so, let me know what version and what repository to get it. Because before I had a Debian Squeeze testing with the Kernel 2.6.30 and worked fine.
I have just installed Squeeze on my 5+ year old iBook G4 and it runs quite nicely and quite fast! I am very happy with it overall. Finally I have been able toinstall Debian on a piece of hardware. Dual boot is generally hopeless on Macs. So this is a single boot setup and I am quite happy with it. I have two major issues right now:1. There's something wrong with the sound system. I get the following error message when I clickon the small x to the right of Volume Control (on the upper right corner of my screen). See attached screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWith my Compaq CQ62 it seems I can either have a distro provide a working wifi or a working soundcard but not both. I would love to have Linux working properly. Wireless internet works great in Windows 7. The ethernet works perfectly when I plug directly into my router, but pressing the wireless button will not change the light on it from orange to white or do anything else. Yet a simple distro like crunchbang or kubuntu seems to make the wireless work fine.
They just cant make my soundcard work. Being that there is at least some sort of a protocol for installing wireless drivers, I figured I would go with the distro that gives me SOUND since installing a sound driver seems unheard of or impossible. I have a realtek wireless network card in my laptop that Fedora, one of the biggest names in Linux, seems oblivious to even recognize. When I click on the network icon and go to Manage Connections, the Wireless tab is greyed out and cannot be clicked on.
HH 8.04 on a Toshiba Satellite A75-S2762. Rather suddenly, I have no sound. On startup, I click on the volume control (speaker-with-x) icon in the tray, and the error message in the attachment shows up. (That message only appears once per session, subsequent clicks just say "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.") Synaptic shows a broad range of said plugins installed (everything from Pidgin to good/bad/ugly), I mark them all for reinstallation, but nothing. I have no sound from any program, and whenI go to Control Center | Sound, there are no options down in the "Device" pull-down.Recenthanges to system: installed and later uninstalled VLC for i386, however sound continued to work for at least one or two sessions. (However, after installing VLC, I got no sound in Totem or VLC, only in Dragon.) No other changes of note
