Here's the problem of mine: I cannot make my EMU10k1 based sound card (Audigy 2 ZS) to play midi.
What I tried to make it work so far:
1. Install sound fonts: unison.sf2 and FluidR3_GS.sf2
2. Use asfxload to load these soundfonts.
3. Check if they are truly loaded:

I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
I debate whether to place this under Server or under Multimedia, because it's both. I have Server 10.04 installed on a Foxconn Intel Atom board. For one of it's duties, I hope to set it up as a jukebox with Subsonic. I plugged in a pair of headphones and set about testing. Long story short, I have no audio from them, although I can get a light hiss when using sound-test. (I will have no GUI on this machine. Everything will be done through terminal or through a browser.)

My usb sound card has been identified by alsamixer, however it won't make any sound when i put headphones in it. The volume is up, I know the sound card works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a sound card but when I go to System->Preferences->Sound and go to Hardware it's not showing anything at all. If I boot from the Live CD then it will show the card and it works. How can I make my Linux installation detect this card? I was thinking that I could somehow copy the necessary files from the Live CD to make this work, but maybe there's an easier way.

I've just configured midi to work on OpenSuse 11.2, using the configuration instructions here.
When I play a midi file, all other sound on the system is knocked out and is unusable until I reboot. No idea how to start trouble shooting.
Had a well working sound system until I bought a USB webcam with microphone. Sound still works well except with flash. As mentioned here my problem is making flash use my normal sound card instead of the USB webcam microphone.

View 6 Replies View RelatedTrying to convert a midi file I created in Rosegarden into a wav file using Sound Converter. Snd Cnvrtr wants to load some gstreamer "bad" plugins, but they end up conflicting with "good" plugins and "ugly' plugins that had been loaded in the kernel (I think). Thought I might remove gstreamer and load up the "bad" plugins, but that meant removing a huge chunk of programming including Snd Cnvrtr. Anyone got any idea how I might do the conversion apart from Snd Cnvrtr? Either that or how I might get hold of the appropriate plugins to allow the midi to wav conversion to take place?

At this point the hardware consists of a simple UART bridge, and I've already written a simple C++ program using termios to send the raw midi data to the device. Obviously I don't want to write a player/sequencer from scratch, so where should I start if I wanted to get this thing to work with, say, a sequencer like rosegarden? Do I write the driver for rosegarden, or hook into alsa or what?

I have an internal PCI sound card, and I would like to find out what MIDI capabilities it has, if any. It is currently using the ens1370 ALSA driver. It has the standard Line in, Line out, and Mic jacks, as well as what appears to be a game port. I think it has some MIDI capabilities, because "cat /dev/snd/midiC0D0" does not fail with "no such device or address," but I don't know if it has MIDI input capabilities, or if it can synthesize, or what. Is there any way to tell?

For non root users, I am not seeing any error messages when a app tries to use/access the sound card, just nothing plays. As I said, for root everything works as expected. I am sure this is a permission/setup issue, but I have no idea where to start.

Here is the problem fist i had a 8800gt installed it work fine until one time the card stop displaying on my screen and the card would make a fan sound like if was over heated......but my integrated still displays... ok then i send the card to my provider so it can be replace.. so they send me a 8800gts .... and i installed and deleted the old drives and even upgrade my bios .... but still happen like it happen whit the 8800gt it wont display any thing on my screen and also is making the same fan sound of the 8800gt ....
It is all good and running except for the sound.

The sound card is an onboard one for Gigabyte X58A series. the driver is recognised as "Intel corporation-82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD audio controller" and the module "snd-hda-intel".
When I put the PCM device on "ALC889 analog" I can hear the test sound in the "audio configuration module" from the system/administrative menu.
However, when I run a movie or an mp3 file, I can see the picture, but no sound. I also can't hear the test sound under "Systems/Prefernces/ Sound " Menu.
This runs fine under windows though I have to configure numerous output plugs through a gigabyte-realtek software.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.

I installed Fedora 11. It 's working fine I have problem only for Skype. When I try to call some one, I got the error "Problem with audio playback". I have "skype-2.1.0.81-fc10.i586.rpm" on my machine.
I've been running F12 x86_64 for almost a week now without significant issues, until now. I found this annoying problem with the audio system during video playback (both with VLC and with Kaffeine).It happens after a while playing a video: sound just stops (video continues). Also I installed VLC and kaffiene with all available codecs but unfortunately I have no sound in my avi movies. I can not know what is the reason although it was working fine in windows.

I mean when i, for example, listen to music in Windows 7 the sound is much clearer and besides that i can use room correction to obtain a better surround feeling, but when i listen to music in Ubuntu the sound is not very clear and it sounds like stereo even though the sound is played back through all the speakers (the bass is also a little bit to high).
So far i've tried installing the alsa driver and modifying the output levels of each channel, but didn't quite have the same result as the room correction feature in Windows, and the sound wasn't any clearer either. Note: I have an onboard Realtek soundcard and Logitech x530 speakers
No sound on my Fedora when I play stuff on my hard disk. Video plays but there would be no sound. But there is sound/audio when I start using a browser. So I guess flash is working. Any basic trouble shooting stuff for audio? I tried this [URL] but the stuff is way over my head.

My problem is when i playmusic in real player 10 or rhythm box, the sound switches On and Off. F10 detects my sound card, I believe there must be some settings that needs to be corrected, My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel). I ran Alsamixer and alsactl store as root.
Volume is at 100th level and it not mute. Still the same, sound switches On and Off. I must admit I didn't have the guts to check the whole videos...Its kind of torture to watch a full length music video with stuttering sound... But there's only one key problem -- sound playback.
When I'm playing an mp3 file in rhythmbox, or any other player, it'll skip when I maximize or minimize windows, or do anything that really uses resources.
And on top of that, if I just let it keep going, it'll eventually just stop playing the song, and the progress bar will jump forward and do the same for other songs, not even playing them.

I've deduced that it's probably a sound driver thing. I've downloaded the driver for my card, but I the directions tell me to install it in

All of a sudden my Debian 5.05 system quits working in several different ways.I think it started after I was trying to set up Virtual Box. My first symptom was that when I was trying to convert a dd backup file to a virtual hard drive, the conversion program, part of the virtual box package, told me I was not part of the virtual box group. So I added myself. I could never get past this error message, so I gave up and figured I would google the answer later.
Next time I am on, my sound card does not work. The volume control in the Panel was a red X next to it and complains about the gstreamer not being present. After another round of google I find the brute force solution of giving everybody in every group rw access to everything in /dev/snd. This works. (My main user account was already part of the audio group. I added a new user and specifically added him to the audio group. Nothing. Only root had audio access.)
At about the same time I discovered I could no longer play DVDs. When the movie player starts, it says I may not have permission to play the movie. mplayer claims there is no stream found to handle url dvd://1Also when I add a thumb drive, the file system is read only.
