I really hope you can help me so I can get to talk with my girlfriend.I'm running Lubuntu with 10.04 LTS, and alsa version 1.0.23 on Samsung NC10.Hardware works, soundcard is recognized by the OS, modules are loaded, alsamixer volume up and unmuted, sound output is ok, arecord or sound recorder don't get input.
- The microphone hardware works. Having the volumes up I hear the noise from the speakers when tapping the microphone.
- Soundcard is recognized by OS (and like I said, music and all other sound output is perfectly fine)

Mar 21, 2010I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.

Aug 3, 2010I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

Debian :: SOund Working In Some Programs But Not Others
Nov 19, 2010After the latest update in testing, I found sound not to be working. I checked system config in KDE and found the wrong sound card set there. I changed it to the correct sound card, sound now works in some programs and not others (IE, Dragon Player and Amarok have sound, Kaffeine and Iceweasel do not).Sound does not work through the on board sound card.System beep sounds (through the onboard speaker) also fail to work.I've had similar problems in the past due to the inability to turn off the onboard sound, alsaconf has always fixed them, however debian has removed alsaconf from alsa-utils.

Feb 11, 2016Okay so I've been trying to get my Powermac G5 running Debian. I thought it would be an interesting project and see what I can do with the PowerPC hardware. The problem, of course, is the sound. Since this a G5 it's one of the newer machines so I looked up the drivers for the sound card which is labeled "K2 KeyLargo Mac/IO" and found that I needed a combination of snd_aoa, snd_aoa_i2sbus, snd_aoa_soundbus_i2c, snd_aoa_fabric_layout, snd_aoa_soundbus, snd_aoa_codec_tas, snd_aoa_codec_onyx, and snd_aoa_tonnie (also many of the resources had both - and _ for these names mix matched and I would love to know if that makes a difference or not and what the proper names for these are because I've tried them both with the - and _ to make sure but, I think I'm missing something. I'm not good with sound).

Feb 13, 2010I am having some trouble with my sound card, for what I understanded is not detected on my kernel, my kernel is the following: 2.6.26-2-686. I got a Debian Lenny Stable with Xfce4, my sound card comes incorporate with my motherboard that is an Asus P4S800D-X and my sound card is a SoundMaX.
I am sure that the kernel doesn't recognize it because when I put on a terminal: lspci | grep Audio, I don't get nothing. Also when I go on my Xfce task menu to Settings >> Mixer Settings, I just get a default mixer setting with no audio channels or nothing. I got all my alsa drivers intalled too.because I tried to go to www.asus.com homepage (Motherboard Manufacture) and I cannot find the driver of the sound card for linux.Where I can get this driver? Or can I update my kernel with Lenny stable version? if so, let me know what version and what repository to get it. Because before I had a Debian Squeeze testing with the Kernel 2.6.30 and worked fine.
Debian Configuration :: Apt-get Autoremove - Sound Keys Not Working
Apr 20, 2010apt-get suggetsed I should remove some packages I was no longer using. I've read the threads that explain this, but unfortunately I did that just now, not when I actually ran the damn command. I must say, however, that there were lots of things I wasn't actually using, so it was useful in a way. But there is a problem:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and to get my sound keys working (the mute, volume up and volume down keys) I had to go to Settings-->Regional & Accessibility-->Keyboard Layout and there in Keyboard model I chose the option Dell Laptop/Notebook Inspiron 6xxx/8xxx. I know that's not exactly my model, but that made my sound keys work fine. Well, since I did the autoremove thing, that stopped working. I haven't got a clue what library was being used to get the sound keys working.

Finally I have been able toinstall Debian on a piece of hardware. Dual boot is generally hopeless on Macs. So this is a single boot setup and I am quite happy with it. I have two major issues right now:1. There's something wrong with the sound system. For PowerpC iBooks and PowerBooks you need to manully load the snd-aoa-i2sbus module in order to open alsamisxer so you can set you PCM Channel. I have done this when I ran Jessie on my PowerBook and sound worked with no issues. Now on this iBook I have ran both Lubuntu and Ubuntu-MATE with sound working by using this method. However when I installed Jessie I loaded the module, got aslmixer to load and set my PCM Channel but no sound.

I've been having problems with audio not working through the speakers since I upgraded to Jessie. I did a fresh install, the same hardware worked out of the box on Wheezy. Audio does work through the headphones - searching Google results in a LOT of similar issues on various distros, but none of the suggestions I've found have worked. Pulseaudio is not installed.
Alsamixer shows that the speakers are un-muted, and toggling the headphone auto-mute in case that was causing problems doesn't work. lsmod shows that snd_hda_codec_hdmi is loaded and in use - could it be trying to send sound via HDMI? Odd, because this laptop does not have an HDMI port. Blacklisting that module doesn't seem to make a difference however.

Nov 4, 2010my cousin recently brought me an old dell to see if I could get it working.he mainly wants to use this machine to record himself playing guitar.I immediately tried installing ubuntu, but found it to be unbearably slow.the computer is on the verge of being an antique at 1ghz and 256mb of ram.so I started looking for alternatives, and decided to give debian a shot since I'm familiar with ubuntu and know that it is based on debian.I installed Debian Lenny from the netinst ISO and find it to be much quicker booting and loading programs than ubuntu.I will most likely put debian on my desktop when I'm finished getting this poor old dell set up.
I'm unable to get sound output working properly.I have checked that the volume is not muted. while using pidgin, after sending a message the "message sent" sound starts "skipping" like a scratched cd and the only way to get it to stop is to close the progam completely. I am unable to hear sound or watch videos with totem (and most likely other players, but I have not tested any yet).the files load audio files show their tag information and the length of the track and videos load the first frame but the file never actually plays. when I try to record with Sound Recorder, the application locks up.when I try to record with Audacity the software doesn't stop responding, but also doesn't record.I tried un-muting the microphone (monitor) to check that the microphone I have still works, and can hear it over the speakers, so this leads me to believe that my hardware is in good working order, but that I have something configured improperly.

Jan 7, 2011So I want to be able to listen to sound coming in on the line in port. The sound does work as I have tested with Gnome sound recorder. However, I would like to be able to hear it all the time. I don't want to have to record to be able to hear it. Is there a way to mix the line input sound with the normal system sounds? This is so I can run sound from my Xbox 360 into my computer. I currently use a audio splitter but I get problems with volume levels due to voltage changes going to the speakers.

Jan 14, 2011I have the following problem. As trying to record with an analog microphone through arecord, audacity, gnome-sound-recorder i can get no sound captured. Then i've tried skype where the volume is too low and the sound is distorted.
Until i was using an usb webcam with mic integrated i had no problem using skype but with a simple usb mic i can't get sound recorded. I've tested 3 different mic in a windows os and in opensuse 11.3 on the same pc with a double partition. All of them are working fine with win but not with opensuse.

Sound output works without problems. The only problem is the mic input.
When the volume of the mic is at 100% i can here sound from the speakers, what should mean that the mic is working, but it's not capturing anything. I've checked the mixers from yast>harware>sound and seem to be all up as in alsamixer in terminal and kmix.
I'd like to add that i'm using opensuse 11.3 with kde 4.5.5 updated today through the stable repositories and to have even updated alsa, as proposed always from oldcpu in the same post mentioned in the beginning of this post, from the following site and for my specific kernel.

Mar 21, 2010I've never tried getting my mic to work in linux up until now. For some reason I can't get any sound to come through on the input. I don't really mess with my sound settings so my knowledge is pretty limited in this area. I have a Creative Audigy 2 card and it seems to be using PulseAudio. alsamixer, aplay etc. all seem to NOT be installed. I can edit volume one of two ways. The gnome sound prefrecnes or using pacmd. I'm kind of at a loss here and my searches haven't turned up anything useful as they refer to alsamixer etc.

May 1, 2014I recently updated my Debian jessie system (for the first time in a few months). It broke my video driver (fortunately a dpkg-reconfigure fixed that) and my wireless driver (forget how I fixed that...), and my sound. ALSA still thinks I have an output device, I've set volumes all the way up in alsamixer.
In vlc and firefox, I can't hear anything using the default audio out (which I think is pulseaudio), nor can I hear anything if I ask them to use ALSA output directly. I've tried rebooting, killing/manually starting pulseaudio, etc to no avail.
I think it was either the kernel upgrade (went from 3.10 to 3.13) or a configuration option in some sound subsystem that broke. To be clear, sound was working perfectly before the upgrade. My machine is an Ivy Bridge-era Zenbook.
Hardware :: Get My Behringer UCA202 USB Sound Card Working On Debian Squeeze?
Jul 9, 2010I am trying to get my Behringer UCA202 USB sound card working on Debian Squeeze. Under lenny I can get the card working perfectly using modprobe snd-usb-audio then alsaconf. On squeeze however, I did the same thing and followed the debian wiki instructions, but while I can view the card to pull up in alsamixer no sound will play and under "item" both dB gains are stuck on 0.0 despite the channels being unmuted and the volume being up.

[EDIT]: I solved this problem by changing the line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf "options snd-usb-audio index=-2" to index=1. I am not sure why that made it work though since I thought that line only changed the priority of using the card.
