There used to be a selector where you could set which microphone or line input should be used in KDE 3 (Kmix).
Now, in KDE 4 it is gone and I cannot figure out how to set it. i.e. to change from using an external mic to the internal mic.
I'm thinking of getting a new multiple input sound card for my PC running 10.10
I want to be able to record at least 4 channels simutainiously and have good drivers in Ubuntu for it.
I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
I have a oldish PC (intel celeron 1.4, 256 MB ram) with a skystar DVB-S card. I would like to use it as a Media PC to view channel and listen to music etc. I have tried Linux DVR, Geexbox and Movix without any success.

I use Debian squeeze on a P4 2.4MHz machine with 2 GB ram. lspci can detect all 8 chips but could not load the proper module since it could not identify the vendor. I have tried unloading the SAA7134 module and reloading repeatedly all possible cards from 1 to 174 by "modprobe -i SAA7134 card=#,#,#,#,#,#,#,# #-numbers 1 to 174 one a a time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
I'm running VideoLan (VLC) under Ubuntu 9.1 (Karmic) (64-bit) with a Haupaugge-150 card. Right now when I want to get the TV feed in through the coax, I first have to run "ivtv-tune -c3" to set the channel for cable.
I've tried adding a line to the vlc.config but no joy. Googling found an answer for Fedora but it doesn't match the files I'm seeing in those directories for Ubuntu.
What I'd like would to have ivtv set the channel automatically at boot or start-up.
sound card is working well inside SuSE and everything is ok there. But when I install Windows 7 or XP inside Xen Virtualization software, I can't use sound card and Windows is unable to find any sound hardware.

I have successfully installed the wireless drivers and graphics card and have them both up and running. But I'm having trouble with the sound card. I have a new install of Karmic on my system with a flyvideo 3000 tv card installed. My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.
I have a 4.1 surround setup that the computer sees a 4 channel setup (stuff going to subwoofer is split out in hardware so all the computer sees is the front and rear l/r channels).
All well and good, but phonon isn't giving me an option to set my output to 4 channels, only stereo (which means my rear speakers are useless) or 5.1 (which makes me fear losing channels if I play anything with actual surround sound).
found one other post with this same issue, and the final reply was "I give up"...I got a fresh 9.1 install. I just want to record some audio, but it's only recording on one channel, the left channel.I tried audacity and sound recorder. checked the sound preferences, Hardware set to Analog Stereo Duplex. In audacity Preferences > Devices > Recording, 2 (Stereo) is selected.When recording in audacity the output meter for the left channel shows activity while the right channel looks like it goes up a little bit but doesn't peak like the left channel. I have a checked to make sure that nothing is muted, and I do have sound over the rear channel when I change the wiring on the physical machine. However, I get no sound over the headphone channel. I also changed the conf for pulseaudio to have a default of 2 sound channels. In addition the sound works fine in my Fedora 13 and Win 7 installs, this is a triple boot machine .

My usb sound card has been identified by alsamixer, however it won't make any sound when i put headphones in it. The volume is up, I know the sound card works.

I want to be able to put old tapes on my disk drive.
Working mainly with MythTv, I can not get it to work. The hardware seems to be working as I have options for tuner1 and other inputs. As channel 4 is no longer 'broadcast' I can't scan for it even with the VCR running.
Would someone please hold my hand an provide the necessary steps to get MythTv working or an alternative.

I was hoping that upgrading to 10.04 would fix my problems with sound and HDMI but alas it doesn't. I have an HP dv7 that I wish connect via an HDMI cable to my HDTV and play things like Hulu, Boxee, etc. with the sound coming out of my home theater system. I know that the hardware is capable of doing this because I have Windows 7 installed in a dual boot and it has no problems with pumping sound down the HDMI channel.
I've upgraded to Alsa 1.0.23 freshly compiled. With 1.0.23 I see HDMI settings in Pulse Audio Volume Control. However if I start say VLC and play a video, check pavucontrol and make sure the Playback is set to the HDMI channel. I can hook up the HDMI cable and I can see the video playing - but no audio. I've been in and out of all kinds of things like alsamixer, gnome-alsamixer, sound preferences, etc. and I've toggled things on and off in an attempt to get HDMI sound working but nothing works.
In alsamixer if I hit f6 I see my 0 card as HDA Intel and my 1 card as NDA NVidia. If I select NVidia I see only S/PDIF, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2, S/PDIF 3. I can only mute or unmute these. I've tried both - nothing works. Let me know what sort of output/info you need and I'll post it. Here's some info I've seen others post:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI think my question os quite silly, but yet, I can't figure out how to fix it. I had Debian Lenny installed on my laptop. While in Debian, i could control the volume of laptop speakers and headphone in separate channels. So, i could, for example, play a music in laptop speakers and in headphone, at same time.
In April, I've migrate to Kubuntu 10.04. I cannot do it any longer! There are no two separate channels in KMix. Everytime I plug headphone, it redirect the audio output from speakers to heaphone, and when i take the headphone out, it puts taudio output back to speakers. How can I control volume of each channel manually in Kubuntu 10.04?
I have a Creative SoundBlaster live SB0490 USB sound card. Alsamixer only shows a mic channel for this card although it has a line in. Is this because it is not supported or how it is meant to be? I have problems with no audio out on a program which directly accesses the card as hw:1 although it is actually using it and wonder if this is all related. Strangely I can play sound through the card using rythmbox.

PC seems to run fine in single channel mode but monitor reports no input in dual channel mode and memtest86+ lists from 1-3 errors per pass in single channel mode. Motherboard (Gigabyte P43T-ES3G) can't be set for the 1.65 volts required by the RAM (2x2 of OCZ3P1333LV4GK PC3 10666). The mobo voltage choices are 1.6 or 1.7 volts. I have tried both and increased the MCH voltage from 1.1 v to 1.2 v, but so far can't get it to run in dual channel mode at all and single channel mode seems to run fine but I still get errors in memtest86+. Also tried optimized Bios settings and loosened memory timings (from 7-7-7-16 to 8-8-8-27 and tRFC 60 to 70) and reset Command Rate from 0 to 2. CPU is Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 Ghz, PSU is rated at 400 watts, Video card is Gigabyte GT220.

When I try to use airplay-ng for the packet injection, it always gives me the error " wlan0 is on channel -1, but the AP uses channel 6". I've tried setting wlan0 to channel 6 manually, but that doesn't help. I spent a while searching for a solution, but it seemed like each page had a different, usually highly complex solution, that still doesn't work. I have the most recent drivers for my wireless card, and it meets all the requirements. So, is there any solution to this that will actually work?

We previously had the server booting from the LUNs on the filer, but after some tinkering around with the fibre channel BIOS, we have the situation where the LUNS seem to be mounted, the OS boots, starts to initialise everything but then stalls, saying:

After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
Thinking about building a new system, with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. I am just wondering, which would you prefer: Dual-channel DDR3 or Quad-channel DDR3? Does one have better speed performance over another? Will one way keep your system cooler?
