I am unable to get the hdmi audio for from my graphics card to work. I do not have any speakers to test the other two, and redundant, sound cards .My graphics card is the Nvidia gtx 285, I auto installed the drivers via ubuntu. It does not show up in the hardware tab of "sound preferences". It's not muted, I can't find anything relating to sound in nvidia-settings.but here is my aplay -l:Quote:

The old Nvidia GT220 recently died in my HTPC and I replaced it with a new GT430. Sound over HDMI worked beautifully with the old card (after much trial & error,) but has now stopped working with the new card.Forgot to mention that everything appears to be unmuted in alsamixer. When I run "aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/ sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" I get no sound. I do however get sound from the headphone jack when I do the same command for the onboard sound card (0,0)

I recently bought a new HD Television, and I wanted to connect it to my laptop, a Gateway NV52 using an HDMI cable. I got the video to work with no issues, but I can't seem to get the audio to work. My soundcard is a Conexant CX20561 and I'm running Ubuntu 10.10.

I have a zotac IONITX motherboard with HDMI video. The video seems fine, but I haven't been able to get the sound working through the HDMI cable. Even the little speaker at the top is gone. It was working fine when I had speakers hooked to the motherboard. I have installed the latest 256 driver from nvidia. If I run 'aplay -l' I get this:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
lspci -v gives :
00:08.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio (rev b1) Subsystem: PC Partner Limited Device 437b
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 22
Memory at fae78000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
I don't know if this is important, but I noticed that it says its running an intel driver for my nvidia sound. Could this be the problem and if so, How do I fix it? Also, if I click on system->preferences->sound it comes up with a dialog box that says that its waiting for the sound system to come up. Why I am not getting any HDMI sound or even the little speaker icon at the top?

I have a Asus EEEBOX EB1012 and everything except the sound is fine. I can use a normal 3,5mm stero plug and get sound, but neither optical och HDMI sound will work. HDMI picture is no problem.I have made sure nothing is muted/not turned on in alsamixerI have tried every "profile" under Sound PreferencesI have tried Alsa upgrade scriptI have tried getting rid of pulseI have tried getting different drivers for the Nvidia cardI have tried Ubuntu 10.04 and 9.10At this point I'm at a loss and don't know what else to do. Has anyone had any luck with HDMI sound on a EB1012 or the ALC662 card?I have several other devices hooked up via HDMI, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC (Windows) and none of them are problematic so I'm pretty sure it's related to the ASUS/Ubuntu somehow.

I'm having a hard time with my hdmi output on my HP G60-128CA laptop to my HDTV.For now I'm getting video only with the Nvidia 173 driver no mater if I'm on 10.04 or 10.10. In the 2 cases, the sound is not passing. Let me add that all the options in sound preferences are available and all the speakers tests i did whit aplay worked ( no error messages), and no muted devices in alsamixer. In all my web searching one thing is strange to me: i didn't find a lot of problems regarding the hdmi display output whit the latest nvidia driver

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on HTPC, after having a few RAM and SATA issues everything seems to be working fine, The audio (using HDMI) does not work. Have PC connected using HDMI for video (and I am hoping for audio too, this card is made for this and it has been tested with other OS) however the audio does not work, although in the audio preferences it shows to be using the correct hardware. Testing for sound under sound preferences does not play anything, acts as it it was, but no sound, no error messages either. I went ahead and installed ATIs proprietary drivers in hopes that it would make the audio work, but not luck so far.

I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.

I have a EMU 1616m sound card and I can not get it to work with Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10. At the boot sequence I get the message that firmware could not be loaded. However, when I use another Linux distro PARDUS that uses KDE, the card works perfectly. With KUBUNTU i don't get any chance either. I think it is a kernel problem but both distros have the same kernels. So, this is not a KDE vs GNOME problem either as KUBUNTU did not work it either.

I have two sound (or audio) hardware on my desktop computer. One is part of my computer motherboard and the other one is a sound card (CA0106 Soundblaster) I bought to replace the other one. When I first installed Ubuntu, my sound card was working properly after I made the necessary changes (system>preferences>sound), but after a few days it just stopped working and the sound from the motherboard is only working.
I reinstalled Ubuntu to my computer a few days ago, and my sound card was working again, but once again, it stopped working after a few days. How can I fix this?

I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.

I'm looking to put a new video card in my desktop. I need one that will be able to handle H.264 at 1920x1080, and I would like to find one that can do HDMI with audio. Shopping for video cards, as I heard somewhere, is the kind of thing that makes you want to bang your head against a wall until you go blind, because then you won't need to worry about it any more... someone will be able to recommend a model, or at least a chipset or something, before I rip my own eyes out.

I have an HP 8510w laptop and I run ubuntu 10.04 out of an external harddrive.
I have no problem getting video over hdmi using the latest proprietary nvidia drivers however I cannot get sound through the HDMI cable.
I have read around without being able to find a solution.
Running "aplay -l" shows only my intel sound card and also there is no hdmi sound interface in the sound preferences (Only the normal output interface).
I am using the latest proprietary nvidia drivers (Believe it to be 1.95) and the graphics card is a Quadro FX 570.
how I can get sound out to work via the hdmi cable?

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. Everything is working fine except I have no sound. When I use the command 'aplay -D hw:0,0 somefile.wav', I can get sound through headphones attached to the headphone jack. But I can't get any sound through the speakers. This is a dual boot desktop and the sound works fine under Windows, so no problems with hardware. The PC monitor is connected through a hdmi cable and I would need sound through the speakers. The output of alsa-info.sh is at

I recently purchased a new video card a GeForce 550 Ti, but I haven't been able to get sound working over HDMI.
I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu (11.04) and have installed the proprietary drivers through Additional Drivers.
Code:
The card is being picked up by alsa and I've configured Ubuntu to use HDMI in sound preferences:
aplay -l:
Code:
When I check alsamixer this is what I see:
ALSA reports that version 1.0.23 is installed, although I thought 11.04 came with version 1.0.24?
cat /proc/asound/version:
Code:
I've tried purging ALSA and reinstalling it but it didn't help. Is there anything I can do? Does anyone know if this card is supported by ALSA properly yet? I hate the thought of having to go to Windows to get this working
