I have an epson stylus sx425w which is a printer/scanner. ubuntu found and installed a driver for me and im able to use the printer fine but for some reason the scanner just isnt working. if i use the simple scan software it says connect a printer and if i press the scan button on the printer and select usb it says connection problem.
i saw a post about this already for ubuntu 10 or 9 and they provided a link for a newly released driver which turned out to be the drive ubuntu installed automatically and that hasnt fixed my problem.
anyone know what the cause could be and how to fix it?

Have an Epson Expression 1640 XL A3 scanner (usb & network interface card). Bus=0002 Device=004 its usb ID is 0x04b8 0x0109 I have never been able to connect the scanner using the network - if anybody can advise, I would be very grateful. Quite happy to use this if usb is going to be a problem The scanner has worked very well through the usb and wask working well with 9.04(32bit). I have bought a new machine and did a fresh install of 9.10 (64bit) and the scanner is not detected.
xsane detects my webcams (vl4:/dev/video*)but no scanner Have run sudo xsane-find-scanner - only the webcams are detected Have edited /etc/sane.d/epson2.conf - added scanner usb ID, and added the lines:- usb /dev/usb/scanner0 usb /dev/usbscanner0 as advised in one of the threads in this forum sudo scanimage -L gave this-
WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect
device `v4l:/dev/video1' is a Noname Creative Labs Webcam Pro Ex virtual device
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 virtual device
[code]....
Do I need to select M for these three modules?
the following had [M] -
USB Printer support
Microtek X6USB scanner support
It looks like the scanner module has not been loaded, and possibly the usbfs yet usb webcam and card readers are accessible. I have tried to keep outputs relevant & short. If I have omitted anything, you would like full results or any other information.

Using xsane with HP scanjet 3970 scanner. It used to be that when I plugged the scanner in and started the xsane a window would come up asking if I wanted to use my HP scanner or my Hauppauge video card. Well, that window no longer comes up and the Xsane wants to use my video card. When I try to "scan" the program closes and all the windows associated with it disappear.

I added myself to the scanner and saned groups, however scanimage -L only detects the device when run as superuser. I think this may be related to [URL].
root@icecream:/home/discord# scanimage -L
device 'epson2:/dev/sg0' is a Epson GT-9800 flatbed scanner
discord@icecream:~$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

I've got a SCSI scanner that is being detected by the kernel on Fedora 14, but XSane does not see it. If I run "sane-find-scanner" it says that noSCSI or USB scanners are found. The scanner is a Cacham Splendeur 3024, model VM3552. I believe this scanner is the same as the Relisys Scorpio VM3552. In /var/log/messages, the following entries show up as soon as the scanner is warmed up:
Code:

I have a problem here where sane no longer detects my scanner.
Code:
lsusb
reports
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 03f0:5b17 Hewlett-Packard
Code:
sane-find-scanner
reports:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x5b17 [HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP]) at libusb:007:002
Code:
scanimage -L
reports
No scanners were identified. xsane reports no devices detected (I have it in French, "Aucun p'rif'rique disponible"). I get the same when I launch xsane as root, so I doubt it is a usb-rules issue. It used to work; I checked /proc/bus/usb, but that is empty.

I have an epson cx7800 printer/scanner that 11,3 doesn't detect on USB. I tried Yast-Hardware-printers and Yast-Hardware-printers and nothing is discovered/detected.
Are there repos for this stuff and is there a tutorial like the one for graphic card theory I could peruse?

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

It shows:- No scanners detected Please check your scanner is connected and powered on.
I Also visited [url] & found as below-
ScanJet 3770 Unsupported. While an external binary-only backend exists, it works only on Linux i386. Therefore the scanner is unsupported on other platforms.

I am using both K3b and Basero to try and burn a DVD Iso. Both programs show that I need to insert blank media in the drive, however the disk utility shows that I have an unformatted disk in the DVD-RAM drive. Using Ubuntu 10.10 with wine installed. I mention wine because I remember messing with it a while back to get a multi disk install to work and needing to mess around with mounting the disks in odd configurations however cant remember exactly what I did. (It was a late night)

I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

How to get this scanner to work with Ubuntu 10.10
It's connected and printer is working through the scanner. But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.
I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.
Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

I've been using a Nikon Coolscan 4000ED on Ubuntu for a couple of years via Vuescan with no problems at all.
The other day I upgraded to 10.10 and Vuescan can no longer see the scanner. So I tried X-Sane and Simplescan and they both say there is no scanner even though it's connected and switched on. So for some reason, Ubuntu 10.10 cannot see the scanner or perhaps the IEEE connection.

I am delving into the world of scanners for the first time. With 9.04, my Cannon CanoScan LiDE 25 works without a hitch in ScanLite and Scanner Utility but not in XSane. I am able to scan photos and such and get good quality images. I have an infrequent need to make copies of pieces of paper and have been experimenting a bit trying to make my scanner and printer act like a copier. what type of images to take and how to print them?

Having spent hours and hours on this, I'm ready to give up on Ubuntu. Whenever I run Xsane or Vuescan, I get a message telling me there are no devices available. Op system is Hardy.HP J6480 is conected to network hub.Vuescan works fine under Windows 2000. Printing works fine from UbuntuI have repeatedly installed HPLIP.I have run hp-check and loaded all the dependencies it told me it couldn't find, reducing the number of errors from 9 t(mostly compile time) to 3.Hp-check finds the printer ok, but tells me no scanners were identified. The silly thing is that before I re-installed Ubuntu I managed, somehow, after a lot of work, to use Xsane.

I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 'in anger' for a couple of weeks now and overall I'm impressed. However, a couple of days ago my old Epson C46 (which had been working fine under Karmic) died, and I had a look for a replacement.
I decided on a Canon MP270 because Canon seemed to have gone to the trouble of providing Linux drivers on their website. I even phoned Canon and they confirmed it should work fine.
Today the AIO arrived and I downloaded the printer and scanner drivers from Canon. I could't get the install.sh files to run - tried ./ sudo and sh etc, no joy. Anyway, I used the package manager to install the .deb files and that seemed to go OK.
The printing side of things works fine but I can't get the scanner recognized by Xsane.......

I'm using 9.10 on x86 architecture. I've searched the forums and anything related to scanning talks about editing /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules which doesn't seem to exist on my system. Judging from the dates most of these posts probably relate to intrepid or jaunty. XSane just says 'no devices available'. Printing works fine.

I'm trying to get a network scanner to function. I've been following the guides here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1519201
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ScanningHowTo
And I think I am just misunderstanding something.
1. The scanner is properly functioning on the server side.
2. Both, the client and the server, have the package sane-utils installed.
3. I changed /etc/default/saned on the server to RUN=yes (that was easy!)
4. Editing /etc/sane.d/saned.conf is what I think I'm getting confused on. The internal IP address of the server is 192.168.1.102 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The internal IP address of the client is 192.168.1.103. So, what do I put there? Is 192.168.1.0/24 correct? That didn't work!
5. Also, editing /etc/sane.d/net.conf on the client is confusing me too! What IP address should go there? Can I put the server name? What is the correct syntax?
6. I added saned to the correct group, lp. I made sure that the scanner was owned by the correct group by doing these commands:
sane-find-scanner
AND
ls -al /dev/bus/usb/XXX/XXX
The group was lp.
