Ubuntu Multimedia :: Saving Alsamixer Volume Settings?

Apr 8, 2011

When i installed Ubuntu, everything worked fine, sound drivers installed automatically and volume was perfect. Then one day as I was talking to a friend on skype, I tried changing the output to speakers from my headset during the call and i didnt get any output. I tried changing a few settings, can't remember which ones exactly until I noticed someone had pulled the audio cable from the back of my PC. I replaced it but I started getting very very low sound.I found out about alsamixer and when I ran it, I found that the volume on that device was turned down, i turned it up and voila! sound back to normal. However, now when I reboot, my sound goes down again. I have tried deleting the asound.state file and running the save command, "sudo alsactl store 0" I think, as someone suggested, but no cigar.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Set Headphone Volume In Alsamixer

Jul 21, 2010

since updating my laptop to 10.04, I can't get any sound out of my headphones. If I plug the jack in, the sound from the loudspeakers turns off, but the headphones stay quiet.

I have run alsamixer and in fact the volume for the headphones is stuck to zero, and it's not possible to increase it.

My hardware config is posted here: [URL]

What I find funny, is that amixer reports that I don't have the capability of regulating the headphone volume:

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
Capabilities: pswitch penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Mono:
Front Left: Playback [on]
Front Right: Playback [on]

I have also used the AlsaUpgrade script to get the latest version of alsa, but it still doesn't work.

Debian Multimedia :: Sound Volume Low Despite Alsamixer At 100 Percent

Aug 1, 2010

I've got a Toshiba L650, Debian testing/unstable, KDE4.4.5. The sound worked when I first installed everything (played a movie in dragon player, etc), but shortly thereafter it stopped working. It seems like the hardware is okay (all hardware is recognized, all relevant modules loaded, volume in alsamixer at 100%, the system beep -- set in the BIOS -- works), but I still can't get sound to play. Once or twice, right before KDE shutdown, I could hear the exit sound, but that's it. Last night I exited KDE (without hearing a sound), shutdown kdm, then:

mv $HOME $HOME.backup
mkdir $HOME
and restarted kdm and kde...still no sound! I created another user, and still no sound!

Debian Multimedia :: Settings Were Not Saving Through Reboot

Sep 9, 2010

Initially, Debian detected my M-Audio soundcard right off, and things were going great, until I tried to get a Logitech webcam working. Got video going, but no audio, so I installed cheese, alsa-base and alsa-utils, and played around with settings according to copious forum threads dedicated to the problem of Linux and webcams, all to no avail. Then I had NO SOUND, until I did a alsa-conf, which detected and (re)set my M-Audio card, until reboot, then again, NO SOUND. Settings were not saving through reboot.

So I purge removed alsa-base and alsa-utils, hoping that things would magically revert to pre-webcam experiment. Still no sound. I have given up on the webcam idea; I'll use my XP Pro laptop for that. But I need sound on this Linux box. Oh and when I'm playing ....., etc. the soundcard itself is making chatter noises to the beat of the music. This soundcard was working perfectly before I started the webcam debacle, so it's not a hardware issue.

Ubuntu :: Save Settings In Alsamixer?

Feb 8, 2010

I was finally able to make the internal mic of my Vaio w12 work properly both sound recorder and in skype...I added this line in alsa-base.conf

Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
The problem is that everytime i restart the netbook the "Input so" switch automatically to "Front mic" instead to keep the setting "Int mic".

I tried to use sudo alsa ctl store but nothing change...Maybe there is another way for to set "input so" to "Int mic" by default.Im using Ubuntu 9.10 desktop 32 bit.

Slackware :: Couldn't Adjust The PCM Volume From Either Alsamixer Or Amixer

Apr 29, 2010

I've just switched to slackware from opensuse (and before ubuntu) for few days. Everything is ok , no, is awesome when I was doing my job on run level 3. However, I found there was no sound when I booted it to run level 4 (xfce) trying to play some music on yesterday. After googled a lot, I thought there must be some wrong with my alsa driver, because I couldn't adjust the PCM volume from either alsamixer or amixer. In fact, there is even no PCM section in it, but two sections named "IEC958" and "IEC958 D" instead with no "pvolume" capability. Here is some outputs:

Code:
bash-3.1# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xefffc000 irq 21

[Code].....

ps: I've reinstalled alsa-lib, alsa-oss, alsa-utils from the installation dvd, no use

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Headset Volume Settings In ALSA Mixer?

May 20, 2010

I have a Logitech clearchat pro usb headset and it works really well. However every time I plug it in I have to turn up its volume in alsa mixer. Also so that the right volume slider is controlled (by the volume keys) I have to change the output in pavucontrol. Does anyone know of a way that I can make this happen on its own? I guessed writing a udev rule might work (not that I have ever done one), but I don't know the commands that are equivalent to what I do.

Fedora Hardware :: Intel ICH7 Alsamixer Won't Remember Volume Levels

Apr 15, 2011

I ran openSUSE way back since version 7.3, before that I was on Redhat 6 and briefly at 5 before that. I know my way around Linux pretty well but two problems with Fedora are bothering me right now. I'll begin a separate thread for each one to keep things clear. The first problem is with sound. I remember having problems with the Intel ICH7 chipset and pulseaudio on openSUSE, but the problem I have with Fedora is different. Sound works, but each time after rebooting, I have to open alsamixer to turn the master volume up from zero. Being an openSUSE user, I am comfortable with KDE, so I am running KDE 4.6.1 as my DE.Two sound devices have been detected, one is the Intel soundcard, which is recognized as snd_hda_intel. The primary sound device, according to alsa, is my Logitech UVC cam.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Pulse Audio Volume Controller: Stop It From Changing Settings?

Jun 12, 2010

I'm still working on ubuntu 9.10 with an acer aspire 1810tz. To use my microphone I found out that I have to change my microphone settings because it's mono and the default setting is thinking it's stereo: With the Volume Controller I setup one chancel to 5 and the other to 90 and the mic is working fine. Starting Skype and using it I see that the setting is reducing the volume for the mic below 20, so nobody can hear me. I tried closing first Volume Controller and then starting Skype, no matter the volume of the mic is reduced. How do I stop this behavior?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Volume Control Resets Alsa-speaker Settings To Max?

Nov 25, 2009

I have 5.1-speaker set, confed succesfully with alsa. alsamixer -c 0 -command shows volume of all the speakers I want to set up. My problem is, when I have alsamixer open and change main volume from gnome-panel (it's called pavucontrol for me, pulseaudio?) it "resets" all speakers to max (100%). Only master volume changes like planned. For example, if I have front speakers set to 50%, center to 75%, surround to 100%, subwoofer to 40%, when changing volume from gnome's panel it only changes master volume, and puts every other speaker to max. How to prevent this? Do you have any clue? I had not any problems with this in openSUSE 11.1. Alt+F2 not working with Emerald decorator Screens go black after 10 minutes or so in openSUSE 11.2

I tried to playing with volume settings but to no avail.I recording something with arecord -f cd test.wavand tried playing it back with aplay test.wavbut got nothing. Then I thought I'd look at my sound card configuration. I selected the "Configure your sound card" from the start menu. Ubuntu :: Saving All Of Settings In A Session?

Jun 17, 2010

I've been playing around with my gnome set up and getting it to look nice, but every time I log out, it messes itself up in just a couple of ways. I saved the session, but that doesn't appear to be catching everything. The problems I'm having -I disable trackpad clicking with "sudo trackpad notap", but I need to reenter this every time I log in or it's turned back on again.

No matter what I do to screenlets, I can't seem to get it to remember that I only want ONE picture frame on my desktop when I boot up, and only ONE CPU monitor. It instead boots up 2 and 3 respectively.I have set stickynote to open up automatically, but it never boots up to the screen, only the panel above. I then have to double click on it to get it to open.Is there a way to save not just the session but every setting you've got running currently on a Ubuntu machine, and then load them automatically when you boot?

Ubuntu :: Programs Not Saving Settings Unless Run As Root?

Kile is another one). This happens only for some of my programs. What is causing this? Have I installed them in an inappropriate location? (e.g. VP is in /opt).
