Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Syncs Every Time Song Is Played?
Jul 19, 2010
When I am playing music from my iphone through rhythmbox the iphone syncs at the beginning of every song. I dont know why it would need to do that? I have taken a look at settings and nothing really related.
Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor. Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.
I used to open Rhythmbox and click on the playlist. Then I typed a song's name and the chosen song would appear highlighted on the playlist.
However, since I upgraded to Maverick when I repeat that same procedure Rhythmbox will search for an artist containing whatever I typed instead of a song's title containing it.
I want the old feature back. I don't know if I'm being clear...
I had Ubuntu 10 do this same thing for me. I'm using Natty now, and it worked fine until a few days ago, then out of nowhere it does this. I'm listening to a song and it plays all the way through, but when its done it doesnt play the next song. I can select a new song but when I do, it freezes. i'm using an HPG71 if that helps.
Upgraded to 10.04, fresh install. Now I can't change to a new song or go back to the previous one by using the mouse wheel over the rhythmbox icon in the task bar like I could in the previous release. I couldn't find an option for it in the plugins or preferences neither. Is there a way to get this back?
When right clicking a song in Rhythmbox and selecting properties I should be able to change the name of the album for example. However I am able to select the content of the field I am not able to alter it.
Both Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information: - My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour. - Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour - VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems - Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help - I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
I just moved all my songs over to my samba share server. I've been meaning to do it for a while and I finally did. Before that I had all my songs locally and if I needed to delete something I didn't want I could do it straight from Rhythmbox as I was listening to it (instead of tediously going through a file browser and manually deleting it).
However, now that I've put everything on to the samba share (which I've mapped to /home/chris/Music in my fstab as CIFS) I cannot delete anything from Rhythmbox. I get an "Operation not supported by backend" error. However, I can delete, copy, paste, create and do anything else fine in nuatilus, windows explorer or a terminal from any computer.
Why would I be getting this error? I'm 99.9% sure it's not a samba issue. Is it possible that Rhythmbox cannot handle remote shares except reading from them? The only workaround I can think of is to keep files both locally and on the samba share and to also create a two way sync between the two root "Music" folders. Anything updated or deleted on either end would be populated across the other. But my point here is that I shouldn't have to. I would like to just keep it simple, plus the point of having the samba share is to free up space on my local end as well as making all the songs available over the network.
Rhythmbox 0.13.1 on Ubuntu 10.10. So far, I tested my favourite plugin "jess plugin" and the standard plugin "goom", it appears on both. After the visualisation freezes, it isn't possible to start it again unless rhythmbox is restarted. (But the rest of the program keeps on working at least.) How to avoid that? It doesn't happen in totem... (But I want to use my rhythmbox library).
I've got Rhythmbox set to automatically draw songs from two folders. Everytime I start the program up, it builds the library fresh from the folders, so any changes I've made to track numbers, song titles, artists, etc is not retained from the previous section. Is there a way to permanently change this time of info in Rhythmbox, or is the another decent Linux music player that has this capability? Btw, I have Gnome.
I really like the two programs Tuxguitar, and Rhythmbox. Tux guitar is a tablature editor, and Rhythmbox is an audio management program/audio player.
Sometimes, when reading tabs, I need to find out if something just isn't right, so I check by playing that part in Rhythmbox to see if the tab is correct. I used to be able to do this a few months ago. Then I upgraded to 11.04, and there were lots of changes with packages and stuff.
To be more specific, Whenever Tuxguitar is running, I'll try to play something in Rhythmbox, and the there will be no audio, and the "time progressed through the track" doesn't change.
How to make it so that Rhythmbox and Tuxguitar can play at the same time.
Also, I remember that in the "Tools>Settings>Sound" options, I was using a "Realtime Sequencer" at a port which had "Gervill" in it. I don't have those options available for some reason, and I have no idea how to get it back.
I just used EasyTAG 2.1.5 under Ubuntu 9.10 to update the tags on my music files running on Rhythmbox 0.12.5, and now Rhythmbox shows that the runtimes (Time) of dozens of my mp3's are now 27:03:11. That means Rhythmbox thinks all those songs are 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 11 seconds long, which they are not. Some are now shown as 54:06:23. So far they are all playing correctly, but the slider at the top of the Rhythmbox window barely moves, making it difficult, if not impossible, to jump to different points in the songs. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

All my music is already synced, but every time a song finishes playing in Banshee, a notify OSD message appears letting me know that song is being uploaded to my Ubuntu One account. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit.
I am running 10.10 and using Banshee. When I go to sync my Ipod Touch 3rd Gen (8GB), it syncs fine in Banshee or appears to but on my iPod, it still shows the "Sync in Progress" for hours afterward. If I cancel the sync from my iPod, some of the music won't show up.
When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.
I decided to take the plunge and I totally replaced windows XP Pro w/ Karmic. I'm working on getting theatre mode set up as well as syncing my iphone.
for this problem I've set up dual desktop mode(both with the guide I found for Nvidia, and with ATI Catalyst control center) through the guide, the computer would freeze randomly and with CCC it seems to freeze when I start a video on the TV display.
I'm running a P4 3.2Ghz, 4G DDR2, ATI 256mb card w/ HDMI out
UPDATE: By changing the screen effects to none the computer doesn't freeze anymore
Sometimes (quite frequently) during the normal use of my laptop (64bit Ubuntu 9.10), if I do not play songs nor anything else, I get annoying sounds, like when guitarists cable their instruments while ampli are on.Apparently this happens particularly when I open new windows or new tabs in my browser, when I shut down my pc, etc...
i dont know what has happened but my smplayer gets stuck when i play any kind of mkv file.. it was working file til yesterday, and today, i had to restart my computer manually 10-15 times! heres the log for smplayer :
I would like sound from mono sources to play in both speakers/earphones. How do I do this? Currently, it plays in only one side (which makes for an odd listening experience).I generally use banshee to play sound.
I'm looking for some pointers on a method to "transfer" the song-playing from my laptop to my PC, both running ubuntu. The use case is: I'm home listening to some song on the laptop. Then I realize how crappy the speakers are. Here's what I do *now*:
1. Stop playback on the laptop 2. Get up, go to the PC, open the music player 3. Find the same song 4. Try to find the same point in the song 5. Stop playback on the laptop 6. Start playback on the PC (the PC has good speakers)
Of course now I'm dreaming of having a "button" I push that does all this all by itself. Can anyone give me some pointers?
I decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.
Some specs : OS version : Debian 7 (Wheezy) Laptop brand : Packerd Bell Easynote LJ-65 Kernel installed : 2.6.38-2-686 (Standard one in wheezy)
recently i installed ubuntu (gnome) 10.10. i'm lovin it but only thing is bugging me is this annoying noise whenever i try to see a video on web or using vlc. i m using dell inspiron 6400. IT has VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 My glxinfo outcome is :
HTML Code:
name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: Yes server glx vendor string: SGI
[code]...
now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...
if i put the visual effects in normal mode i still get the noise on video playing full-screen mood but this is time bit low and on none mode i get the noise too but very low... so i m assuming there must be some problem with my vga card which is causing this chaos. unfortunately there is no driver for my graphics card dat ati supports on ubuntu, so i used gallium 3d project using this ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon .. graphics works fine now but this nosie is killing me ..
I'm trying out Konqueror on Debian Lenny. I'm annoyed by the sounds it plays along with message boxes (for instance: sound of a breaking glass on message boxes showing an error). I can't neither find any setting for that nor I've been able to find some general setting.
I was looking for some film info and ended up at the Apple quicktime website. Clicked on the video preview option (expecting nothing to happen) and it played in a kaffeine window.
i used to edit the mp3 song details such as artist, title, song number details and the album art in windows, i edited the same in UBUNTU using the "easy tag" but the album art is not visible when i transfer the song to my NOKIA phone as well as the artist details are not available when i am playing the songs in windows machine.
program to edit the sing details in UBUNTU so the edited details are visible in phone as well as windows machine.
I'm cleaning up my music library and deleting duplicates and during that process I accidentally deleted the wrong song. Is there some way to undo this process? Banshee gave me no warning, and the trash is empty. I'm assuming there's a command I can use to recover the file, but as I'm a complete noob, I need some assistance.
I am looking for a utility that will allow me to add required metadata to my songs after importing from CD or whatever. I do not want something that will find the information online. I want to have total control over that including the ability to do global changes on songs as well as one by one changes.
Right now I am trying out Kid3-qt and Ex Falso but don't quite know if I am using them properly.
I also tried Sound Juicer but I am not sure if it is really tagging properly when importing audio CD's.
Any other recommendations, and/or videos on how to use these utilities?
