OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Mp3 & Rmvb Files Played Too Fast?
Jan 15, 2010
mp3 file is about 30 minutes but it runs up in 2 seconds and .rmvb file is about 60 minuts but runs up in 5 seconds.
I tried different mp3 files, tried different players including Amorak, DragonPlayer and Kaffeine. Didn't try other types of multimedia files though.
The fact that flashes work well on Firefox may prove that sound card is all right.

but after a forum search I only found one similar thread, but seemingly the issue was not totally solved. I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. After some Google search I came to this page:Index of /pool/non-free/w/w64codecs/
Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet

I tried playing some rmvb videos. I can hear the audio but there is no audio. I followed a few theads related to this but it still hasn't fixed my problem.
One thread says all related packages must be from packman. I have this currently
Code:
mvalviar@mac-mac:~/Desktop> rpm -q kaffeine libxine1 libffmpeg0 w32codec-all xvid libquicktime0
kaffeine-1.2.2-1.pm.1.1.x86_64
libxine1-1.1.19-2.pm.45.33.x86_64
[Code].....

I just installed openSuse 11.2 KDE in a laptop and a desktop. On the laptop, SMPlayer worked very well with "rmvb" files. On the desktop, video its shown with no audio; using Kaffeine, both are played (sound and video) but are a bit out of sync (it happens in both, the laptop and desktop).

I was looking for some film info and ended up at the Apple quicktime website. Clicked on the video preview option (expecting nothing to happen) and it played in a kaffeine window.

I am new to this forum and have recently switched to Ubuntu. The OS installed without a hitch and was able to get video card, wireless internet installed with relative ease. However, I have encountered a problem installing my E-mu 0404 PCI sound card via the ALSA packages in Synaptic.
Code: 04:03.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value [1102:0008] As you can see once the packages were installed the OS could see the hardware ok, but when I tried playing a standard MP3 file (16 bit, 44.1khz, 192kbps) in Totem it started playing the file back around 15-20% faster than normal? To me it sounds as if the software is playing the audio back at higher sample rate than 44.1khz hence the faster speed, though I'm not 100% on that.
The next thing I tried was playing the same file back in VLC and it was exactly the same (15-20% too fast), but this time it was horrible and glitchy as well, almost as if the audio buffer size was set to small. The same thing happened when I tried playing back some flac and wav files (all 16 bit, 44.1khz) also. I have searched google (and read the comprehensive sound card guide on this forum) and read several forums, guides, etc. for anybody posting the same issue with this particular card but could find nothing. From all reports I've read this card should work fine under ALSA. For the record I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 64bit kernel running on a Dell Dimension 9200 (Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13ghz) with 2GB RAM.

I'm having an issue with playback in Amarok 2.3 on openSUSE 11.3. When using xine, Amarok will playback songs very quickly, probably something like 3X-4X faster than it should be. There is also no audio output when it does this. Using gstreamer it plays back at normal speed, but also without audio output. I've done some searching for this problem, but haven't found anything helpful. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Below I'm listing all the multimedia/codec packages that I have installed.
gst-fluendo-mp3-2-37.6.i586
gstreamer-0_10-0.10.29-1.7.i586
gstreamer-0_10-ffmpeg-0.10.6-42.pm.1.i586

When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.

I decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.
Some specs :
OS version : Debian 7 (Wheezy)
Laptop brand : Packerd Bell Easynote LJ-65
Kernel installed : 2.6.38-2-686 (Standard one in wheezy)

I decided to take the plunge and I totally replaced windows XP Pro w/ Karmic. I'm working on getting theatre mode set up as well as syncing my iphone.
for this problem I've set up dual desktop mode(both with the guide I found for Nvidia, and with ATI Catalyst control center) through the guide, the computer would freeze randomly and with CCC it seems to freeze when I start a video on the TV display.
I'm running a P4 3.2Ghz, 4G DDR2, ATI 256mb card w/ HDMI out
UPDATE: By changing the screen effects to none the computer doesn't freeze anymore

Sometimes (quite frequently) during the normal use of my laptop (64bit Ubuntu 9.10), if I do not play songs nor anything else, I get annoying sounds, like when guitarists cable their instruments while ampli are on.Apparently this happens particularly when I open new windows or new tabs in my browser, when I shut down my pc, etc...

I'm trying out Konqueror on Debian Lenny. I'm annoyed by the sounds it plays along with message boxes (for instance: sound of a breaking glass on message boxes showing an error). I can't neither find any setting for that nor I've been able to find some general setting.

recently i installed ubuntu (gnome) 10.10. i'm lovin it but only thing is bugging me is this annoying noise whenever i try to see a video on web or using vlc. i m using dell inspiron 6400. IT has VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 My glxinfo outcome is :
HTML Code:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
[code]...
now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...
if i put the visual effects in normal mode i still get the noise on video playing full-screen mood but this is time bit low and on none mode i get the noise too but very low... so i m assuming there must be some problem with my vga card which is causing this chaos. unfortunately there is no driver for my graphics card dat ati supports on ubuntu, so i used gallium 3d project using this ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon .. graphics works fine now but this nosie is killing me ..

I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 from the alternative installation CD; the installation was just the command line system. On top of this I have installed xorg and awesome window manager. The only problem I am having is with sound; I am unable to hear sound played through both browser-based Flash and locally stored files.
Is there something that I have to do before I can use sound? Edit: I have solved the original problem however I would like to know if I can remove pulseaudio as it seems that I am only using alsa.

Installing 11.2 from KDE LiveCD on an IBM ThinkCenter with 3.2Gb CPU and 1Gb RAM. Ubuntu 9.04 on first two partitions. I go through the configuration, click to 'install': Install display bars remain blank. After 2-3 minutes, black screen with scroll of attempted installation pieces and the error message: "Respawning too fast. Disabled for 5 min." Freeze.
Other posts mention problem with init. But this is happening with the install so not able to address that. No apparent md5chksum for LiveCDs. No mention of this problem in installation help guide. Does anyone know how to deal with this? If you need more info, I will provide. Though it seems this is not an unusual problem when booting an installed system, there's no mention of it happening during installation.

can I index files so whenever I do a find somethingdo find / -name libSDL-1.2.so.0It doesn't take 10 mins. I do know there are packages such as tracker but that one does indexing all the time. I would be happy to have something which can be done by hand or something which is done once in 12 hours or so.

I'm looking for a fast way to verify a copy of a folder with 150Gigs of data, in 33 files. Some of the files are a few kb, while a few are 20-30Gigs. I've done a file count, which is quick, but doesn't verify that all the files are intact. I tried running md5sum on them, which works, but will probably take as long as copying the files in the first place. Diff works too, but is slow too.

I am having music playback issues in lucid right now. When I try to play music through any player, the music plays at a slightly higher speed - roughly 10% faster (a 3:17 song finishes in 2:5. I tried installing 10.10 and had the same problem, and I just went back to 10.04 with a fresh install and still seeing the issue. Is this a common problem for people? My sound hardware is the following as reported by lspci
00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 50)
For reference, I also have 2 other boxes in the house running 10.04 with different sound hardware with no issues. Their hardware are:
00:06.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

I'm doing a little python app for encoding .avi from dvds. I know there are a few really good applications out there that do the same thing but I wanted something simple with less faff. The application has 3 settings: Fast, Medium, and Slow. These are for the varying quality rips. For file format I was thinking either lavc or Xvid.
So my first question is, which is better? I really don't know anything about it and I haven't found a decent site that compares them. And secondly what are the best settings for a DVD rip for a Fast Rip, a 'Best of Both' Rip, and a Best Quality Rip? If I've missed any factors in this, please let me know, I'm new to the DVD ripping game. I have no intentions of distributing the movies, they are for my own uses.

I have two Ubuntus installed. A 10.04 and a 9.04. In 9.04 if I watch a video in Firefox, it works very smoothly and nicely. Using the "top" command, totem-plugin-vi is using the most cpu time at about 16%, and xorg is using about 5%. But in 10.04, totem is using 72% and xorg is using 26%, and it looks really choppy. I think watching DVDs is the same way. I checked "Hardware Drivers" in the System->Administration menu (in 10.04) and it said "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I'm guessing maybe I'm using different video drivers on each system, but I don't even know how to check. and here is an excerpt from lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]

I just(4 hours ago at this writing) installed 10.04 LTS LL on my Toshiba Satellite. I transfered a few albums from my external HDD, to my laptop, and opened Rhythmbox. First, as usual with a new install, I had to dl Gstreamer, and some other plugins, to allow the program to properly play mp3's. This was done with no problems, of any kind, but I then found that, once a song began to play, I was unable to skip ahead in the track.

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 and it works like a charm, pretty much all over. However I seem to have problems using my M-Audio Fast Track Pro with all four channels - primarily when using Mixxx. I hate to switch between Win7 and Ubuntu just for the use of my VCI-100. Is there a way to have Fast Track Pro work? I tried almost any of the solutions found around here - but i simply cannot get it to work.
