Upgraded to 10.04, fresh install. Now I can't change to a new song or go back to the previous one by using the mouse wheel over the rhythmbox icon in the task bar like I could in the previous release. I couldn't find an option for it in the plugins or preferences neither. Is there a way to get this back?

Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor.Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used to open Rhythmbox and click on the playlist. Then I typed a song's name and the chosen song would appear highlighted on the playlist.
However, since I upgraded to Maverick when I repeat that same procedure Rhythmbox will search for an artist containing whatever I typed instead of a song's title containing it.
I want the old feature back. I don't know if I'm being clear...
I had Ubuntu 10 do this same thing for me. I'm using Natty now, and it worked fine until a few days ago, then out of nowhere it does this. I'm listening to a song and it plays all the way through, but when its done it doesnt play the next song. I can select a new song but when I do, it freezes. i'm using an HPG71 if that helps.

The mouse scroll wheel speed/line skipping is way too fast. It skips half the page in one scroll! Is there a menu (like Windows) that lets you customize this?
In technical terms, it's a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 with BlueTrack technology.
When I am playing music from my iphone through rhythmbox the iphone syncs at the beginning of every song. I dont know why it would need to do that? I have taken a look at settings and nothing really related.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBoth Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
The wheel on my PS2 wheel mouse does not work. When I use the USB port using an adapter, it works fine. The wheel works with Puppy Linux, so I know the hardware is fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh boot the first few songs I play with Banshee or Rhythmbox (only used for testing if Banshee was the issue) the songs start to be played badly distored. Like the sound is only being played in very short bursts with gaps between them.
If I restart Banshee the music will usually resuming playing fine for a couple of songs and then the issue repeats. If system load is high the number of songs before the issue appears decreases (as low as 0).
I've attached the output of the alsa-info.sh as I see 90+% of audio issue threads ask for that file in the first reply
Is there a plugin or a setting that I'm missing that would allow me to change volume using the scroll wheel instead of seeking? I usually use VLC for my videos but I would prefer to use Totem if possible.

Edit -> Plugins
and un-check the "Status Icon" plugin.
I just moved all my songs over to my samba share server. I've been meaning to do it for a while and I finally did. Before that I had all my songs locally and if I needed to delete something I didn't want I could do it straight from Rhythmbox as I was listening to it (instead of tediously going through a file browser and manually deleting it).
However, now that I've put everything on to the samba share (which I've mapped to /home/chris/Music in my fstab as CIFS) I cannot delete anything from Rhythmbox. I get an "Operation not supported by backend" error. However, I can delete, copy, paste, create and do anything else fine in nuatilus, windows explorer or a terminal from any computer.
Why would I be getting this error? I'm 99.9% sure it's not a samba issue. Is it possible that Rhythmbox cannot handle remote shares except reading from them? The only workaround I can think of is to keep files both locally and on the samba share and to also create a two way sync between the two root "Music" folders. Anything updated or deleted on either end would be populated across the other. But my point here is that I shouldn't have to. I would like to just keep it simple, plus the point of having the samba share is to free up space on my local end as well as making all the songs available over the network.
Rhythmbox 0.13.1 on Ubuntu 10.10. So far, I tested my favourite plugin "jess plugin" and the standard plugin "goom", it appears on both. After the visualisation freezes, it isn't possible to start it again unless rhythmbox is restarted. (But the rest of the program keeps on working at least.) How to avoid that? It doesn't happen in totem... (But I want to use my rhythmbox library).

Everytime I start the program up, it builds the library fresh from the folders, so any changes I've made to track numbers, song titles, artists, etc is not retained from the previous section. Is there a way to permanently change this time of info in Rhythmbox, or is the another decent Linux music player that has this capability? Btw, I have Gnome.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi installed Ubuntu 10.10 yesterday, and cannot find the answer to my question. I have a whole music library of mp3's on a secondary drive that I want to use in Rhythmbox. However, in Rhythmbox's Music Player Preferences I can't get either the Library Location to change from "Multiple locations set" or the Preferred format to "CD, Lossy mp3".
When I go into Edit>Preferences>Music, where it says "Multiple locations set", it is greyed over (I think that's the term. You can't access it.) When I go into the Preferred format, mps isn't there, but it does show up in another window when I click on edit; however, the only options I have there are 'Close' and 'Help'. The help button brings up another window and syas its loading, but stays in a loading mode forever.
My mouse wheel moves incredibly fast, just after I booted my computer today.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu for the first time in a couple of years, and I'm having a problem with my mouse wheel scrolling about a half a page with every click of the mouse wheel. I never had that trouble in the past.In Firefox, I changed the correct settings inmousewheel.withnokey so that it should only scroll one line and I set the option to use the system settings to false. It still scrolls about a half a page at a time.
It's not just Firefox, it's everything, including LibreOffice, and everything else that uses a scroll wheel. I have installed Xubuntu-Desktop and also Kubuntu-Desktop. I noticed in Unity and Xfce, there are no settings for how many lines the mouse wheel scrolls. In KDE, there actually is a setting. I set it to one line, and it didn't change anything. I opened up a document in LibreOffice, and it still scrolls almost a whole page with one click of the wheel. Firefox still scrolls about a half a page.
I'm trying to reorganize my files and organize my music on Rhythmbox, but I've run into a really annoying problem. The cover art for one song on a particular album isn't right. All the other songs in the album are displaying properly.
I have the album cover in the same folder that the music is in with the name "Cover.jpg".
I've tried about everything I can think of. I've tried renaming the image file, tried dragging it to the album art area in the player, and I've tried moving it to the Rhythmbox folder under the name "~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers/Artist Name - Album Name.jpg" (Of course inserting the correct album name and artist name exactly the way it is shown in Rhythmbox). It will change if I drag and drop it, but once I go back and play the song again, it will revert to the wrong cover art.
I just finished installing 10.04. When I use the mouse wheel to scroll up, Firefox loads previous pages in my history. I had the same problem in 9.10. I've searched through the net looking for solutions. Most solutions talk about adjusting mousewheel.withnokey options. However, everything I try doesn't stop it from loading previous pages when using the mouse wheel to scroll up. My current settings are as follows:
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 6
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down works fine. It's only when scrolling up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I'm using a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse
when im scrolling webpages via scroll wheel the pages MOST of the time will move the direction they're supposed to
however occasionally it will blip and in the middle of a downward scroll it will abruptly scroll upward one or two clicks

ive checked the forums and everyone has problems w the 6th and 7th buttons ... and not the scroll wheel
oh and there are specific drivers on the razer website .. but are those safe to use on ubuntu?

Now, I have moved my Microsoft PS/2 scroll wheel mouse from my previous computer to the new machine, but the scroll wheel does not work. How do I make it work?
I had hoped that Ubuntu would detect my different (new) hardware and configure it for me, but it did not. Googling leads me to xinput, but I can't figure out what to do with that and it indicates it is for 'on the fly' configuration. I want it to be permanently configured. Is there some way to invoke the installation tool again to reinstall the mouse?

I'm new to ubuntu, I had some experience before with mandriva.Most things work properly but there is a strange problem with the mouse (USB), and more precisely with that little wheel which stands between the two buttons. Turning it when the pointer is on some web page (using firefox) I expect the page to scroll. So I turn the wheel in one direction and the page scroll up. Good!I tried with other programs (konqueror, kmail)... and still the same happens, I can only scroll to the top.
View 9 Replies View RelatedEverything worked fine with Jaunty 9.04, but I haven't had any luck getting the "cube" to rotate using the mouse wheel since I upgraded to Karmic 9.10. The other ways to rotate the cube still work with karmic. Note that I upgraded from jaunty to karmic...not a clean install. Viewport switcher and rotate cube are both enabled.
