I was looking for some film info and ended up at the Apple quicktime website. Clicked on the video preview option (expecting nothing to happen) and it played in a kaffeine window.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI decided to take the plunge and I totally replaced windows XP Pro w/ Karmic. I'm working on getting theatre mode set up as well as syncing my iphone.
for this problem I've set up dual desktop mode(both with the guide I found for Nvidia, and with ATI Catalyst control center) through the guide, the computer would freeze randomly and with CCC it seems to freeze when I start a video on the TV display.
I'm running a P4 3.2Ghz, 4G DDR2, ATI 256mb card w/ HDMI out
UPDATE: By changing the screen effects to none the computer doesn't freeze anymore
I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...
if i put the visual effects in normal mode i still get the noise on video playing full-screen mood but this is time bit low and on none mode i get the noise too but very low... so i m assuming there must be some problem with my vga card which is causing this chaos. unfortunately there is no driver for my graphics card dat ati supports on ubuntu, so i used gallium 3d project using this ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon .. graphics works fine now but this nosie is killing me ..
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my problem is with this one video the preview icon in nautilus will not load for me. It's encoded the same as the other 120 videos on the drive and plays just fine in totem. I copied the video from another drive and the preview icon for the video is present on it. Just seems like it's not even attempting to create a preview icon, is there a way of making it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile attempting to download an epub file, I chose "open with the ebook widget" and to run rather than save and then clicked the box which says "always chose to do this and don't show this window again" (or something equivalent). The operation failed to bring up the file in the widget and the window no longer appears so I cannot try something else, e.g. "save".
How do I recover the original setting? (i.e. untick the box on the window that now does not appear).
I am using the latest Mint on a multi-booted DELL Studio 1740 notebook.
I use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04, and usually I record my desktop with the program "Record my Desktop", the format of the video is: .ogg, when I had Ubuntu Karmic Koala, I recorded my screen then in kdenlive added audio and effects and all's right, but now i update to Lucid Lynx, and trying to edit my video in Kdenlive and I obtain this screen(I attached my screen), I noticed that the new video that I record after the upgrade of Ubuntu, I can't view the preview with Kdenlive, but with the old record, I can view the preview. And also i noticed that with pitivi, the new program to edit videos of Lucid Lynx, works fine, with new and old recordings, don't have problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't how long is has been happening for (I've just upgraded my old computer, so it is now my faster and better machinig), but Nautilus is failing to create thumbnails for anything other than text files.
I've swapped the settings around to try to trigger changes, but even on "Local only" or "Always" with a 10MB cap then Nautilus won't generate previews for anything other than text files. All images/videos/pdfs/web pages that should have thumbnails generated for them have the "pending" icon but never generate a thumbnail. If, however, I open the file (with Eye of Gnome or Gimp) and refresh the folder then the thumbnail appears for the one file I just opened (so I could go through and preview all images, but I'd really rather not!)
I've tried removing/renaming my .local/share/mime folder in case it was incorrectly handling file types, but that didn't help. I've looked in gconf at the thumbnailer apps, but that appears to be for everything except images. Running "evince-thumbnailer" on its own works fine as well and generates an image. There aren't any related errors in .xsession-errors, and I don't know where else Nautilus logs to (running "nautilus --browser" creates a browser window but then drops back to the command line and doesn't print any output).
I'm using openSUSE 11.2 and the default Gnome, with codecs from Packman. A fairly similar setup on my other machine is thumbnailing perfectly fine.
Presuming ubuntu was dual-booting alongside windows with GRUB, and I formatted the ubuntu partition, what would happen at startup; would I still be able to access windows, and would the option to boot ubuntu just disappear?
View 7 Replies View Relatedmp3 file is about 30 minutes but it runs up in 2 seconds and .rmvb file is about 60 minuts but runs up in 5 seconds.
I tried different mp3 files, tried different players including Amorak, DragonPlayer and Kaffeine. Didn't try other types of multimedia files though.
The fact that flashes work well on Firefox may prove that sound card is all right.
I have been burning a few CDs. When I inserted the blank CD I was queried what to set the default action as, and I selected 'Do Nothing'. The CDRom drive now does not attempt to read or mount anything inserted into it. It shows up in Nautilus under 'Computer', but does not appear to be mounted properly otherwise.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 desktop.
I've already went thorough "Check your multimedia problem in ten steps" and "Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide", but still no luck. When I try to play video Kaffeine just throw out big red cross and then nothing palys.

After wrestling with Kaffeine on openSUSE 11.2, I thought I had solve the issue I had with it and I got a new error as described below:
Original Issue: Kaffeine will not play a dvd. Error: Cannot find input plugin for MRL
Then: error no longer appeared, but I got a new error.
New error: "Cannot find demux plugin for MRL "dvd:///dev/sr0""
Of course, I could install Demux, but what is this plugin business? Any ideas? Please, if possible include a little information about what MRL refers to.
I am just starting with Opensuse , been on Ubuntu for a few years . I am getting Kaffeine to work with my HVR 1600 . I had to add the firmware to /lib/firmware , then install the xine and ffmpeg files . Now tv scans channels and plays . Actually it plays great . I had skipping problems in Ubuntu with Me-tv , not so with Kaffeine .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of 11.3 and everything went good but i have a problem. There is no sound when i try to watch a movie in VLC, Kaffeine, SMPlayer and xine. But when i open the movie (.avi format) with Dragon player it plays as it should be. I have sound when i test the output in KDE system settings and i listen to music as i write this message. I tried with Xine and GStreamer output but the problem stays. I have all the multimedia codecs that are needed installed. Here is my repo list:

Seems this is one of very view disadvantages of a case sensitive OS. Has anyone an idea how I could tell vlc or kaffeine(xine) how to deal with that? I don't want to burn all my dvd's again with capitalised entries.
How to configure Kaffeine to use jack. After I start jack with:

I have recently installed 11.2. I am having some sound woes. Vlc plays CDs and DVDs but Kaffeine won't. KsCD won't play CDs. When I try to use Kaffeine to play a CD I get:

I'm using Kaffeine 1.0-svn3 from Packman repo on openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.5. In Kaffeine, I can not find the menu where I can choose the subtitles. (I want to watch an avi-file with a separate subtitle-file in srt format). With openSuse 11.0, KDE 3.5.8. and an older version of Kaffeine, there was a possibility to select subtitle files (srt).

I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet
I tried playing some rmvb videos. I can hear the audio but there is no audio. I followed a few theads related to this but it still hasn't fixed my problem.

I have just installed openSuse 11.2 (64bit), and I installed the avi codecs as described in Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE-Community with the 1-click installation for KDE. But kaffeine and xine are crashing when I try to play avi files.One thing I found out is that all packages are 64 bit packages only the w32codec-all version is 20071007-0.pm.1.1-i586 and I don't get offered a _64 package. Is this OK? What else could be the problem

Trying to play dvd that worked under 11.1 and original dvd version of openSUSE 11.2. It failed after a update.
Not sure which one since I do not normally play dvd movies on my system.
Checked all multimedia rpms and they are all from packman except kaffeine which is KDE4 version.
