Debian Multimedia :: Konqueror: Stop It Sounds Played Along Message Boxes?

May 28, 2010

I'm trying out Konqueror on Debian Lenny. I'm annoyed by the sounds it plays along with message boxes (for instance: sound of a breaking glass on message boxes showing an error). I can't neither find any setting for that nor I've been able to find some general setting.

Debian Multimedia :: ALSA - Sound From 1 Source Being Played Only

May 29, 2011

I decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.

Some specs :
OS version : Debian 7 (Wheezy)
Laptop brand : Packerd Bell Easynote LJ-65
Kernel installed : 2.6.38-2-686 (Standard one in wheezy)

Debian Multimedia :: Installing VNC Server - Few Untangle Boxes Around

May 4, 2011

I'm sort of an incidental Debian user -- Untangle installs with a customized version of Debian (2.6.26) and I have a few Untangle boxes around. I've searched with Google and also in this forum for some guidance in installing VNC Server and have run into a brick wall. Basically I need to see my Untangle boxes' GUI remotely on Windows mostly to run Wireshark. There are some X clients that install on Windows, but I've not got any of them to work well enough to rely on.

I use VNC routinely between Windows boxes, so I thought maybe that would be a better option. Unfortunately, all the instructions I've found to install the VNC server on Debian have been inoperative. They typically say something like "apt-get install vncserver" which results in an error because it can't find "vncserver" anywhere. Now I know that this has been done by others, so it's clearly possible.

Debian Multimedia :: VMware Interferes With QEMU / GNOME Boxes

Nov 3, 2015

I currently have GNOME Boxes and Oracle VM VirtualBox installed on my Debian 8 system, and it works well. However, I recently installed VMware Workstation Player 12, and that seems to work too. However, I've noticed that since I've installed VMware, the networking in my GNOME Boxes virtual machines does not work. Also, every time I go to my networking settings, I see virtual networking devices for VMware that are really annoying. Why don't I have virtual networking adapters pop up for VirtualBox or GNOME Boxes? How can I get VMware and GNOME Boxes to play nice together?

Debian Multimedia :: No Event Sounds In XFCE 4.6.2 On Sid?

Jan 24, 2011

I recently gave XFCE a try, after using Openbox for a long time and I really like it, so that I think I will switch totally to XFCE. All is working fine, except one thing: I really would like to have event sounds.

So I launched the Appearance-Module and checked under the Settings-tab both Enable event sounds and Enable input feedback sounds. Following the tooltip for the event sounds I also installed libcanberra, but I get absolutely no event sound.

[Code]...

I thought, maybe there is a lack of a sound theme, so I also installed freedesktop-sound-theme, but that didn't help. I did already searched with Google and in this forum, but have found nothing that would help me. I would be very happy if anyone can give me an advice what to check or has a link to a tutorial for this sounds.

Debian Multimedia :: Konqueror Stopped Displaying Thumbnails Of JPGs, PNGs

May 4, 2010

I just installed KDE and I had 2 minor problems with Konqueror:

1) Every time I emptying the trash, I'm getting the error message: "The file or folder /...path here.../.Trash-1000/files/...filename here does not exist.". Seems like I had deleted this file, and before emptying the trash, I deleted somehow this file outside Debian installation (probably from a live cd). Other than that, trash is working OK. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get rid of the error message. (Of course emptying the trash from command line, doesn't brings any message).

2) Konqueror stopped displaying thumbnails of JPGs, PNGs etc. (with the exception of Photobook view, which is not very convenient for large number of photos).

I bypassed this problem, installing d3lphin (since dolphin is not available for lenny), and browsing the photo catalogs with it.

The result is:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

If I start Konsole directly, I do not receive any such errors.

Debian Multimedia :: Etch>Lenny, Sudo Konqueror No Longer Works?

Feb 2, 2011

Testing an upgrade Etch>Lenny 5.08, and one issue I've found is that "sudo konqueror" in a teminal no longer gives root priveleges, instead konqueror starts with limited rights. It also seems that using a .desktop shortcut, an attempt to run konqueror under any credentials other than the logged-on user fails.

Yet, 'sudo kwrite' works. Anyone met this before, or know why?

At the moment I cannot see how this can be easily done, other than turn event sounds off, which I don't want to do. Have I missed something? There seems to be very little event sound customisation in Squeeze, compared to Lenny. Also is there a way of getting Squeeze to play a short exit sound on logout or reboot? I know how to turn off the annoying system beep, that is there at the moment.

Ubuntu :: Recording Several Desktops And Each Sounds At Same Time / Stop It?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm trying to develop a system that records different desktops at the same time. I have developed a audio-videochat system and I want to be able to record what happens in every room, so my starting idea was:

1) Open a graphic terminal for each room. I have succeeded using vncserver :NumberDisplay.
2) In each terminal, run firefox at each URL. I succeeded too because firefox lets me specify in wich NumberDisplay I want it to be open
3) In each terminal, run recordmydesktop to record. It allows too to specify the NumberDisplay.

My problem now is that it seems that the sound card is "shared", so the sounds recorded in the display 1 includes the sound generated in all others firefox windows. I havnt found an analogy for the sound as the display is for the graphics.

I have thought some ideas but I havnt been able to materialize anyone.
Im tried to create virtual sound cards and specify one for each vncserver, I tried to redirect the sound of each firefox window to one "channel" (read firefox delegates the sound so that might not be an option), I read many things about pulseaudio, jack and several stuff that I just havnt been able to work.

The fact that flashes work well on Firefox may prove that sound card is all right.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Annoying Noise When Video Is Played On Full Screen Mode

Feb 20, 2011

recently i installed ubuntu (gnome) 10.10. i'm lovin it but only thing is bugging me is this annoying noise whenever i try to see a video on web or using vlc. i m using dell inspiron 6400. IT has VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400 My glxinfo outcome is :

HTML Code:

name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI

[code]...

now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...

if i put the visual effects in normal mode i still get the noise on video playing full-screen mood but this is time bit low and on none mode i get the noise too but very low... so i m assuming there must be some problem with my vga card which is causing this chaos. unfortunately there is no driver for my graphics card dat ati supports on ubuntu, so i used gallium 3d project using this ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon .. graphics works fine now but this nosie is killing me ..

Debian Multimedia :: Force Mencoder To Stop Streaming?

Aug 12, 2010

Is there a way to instruct mencoder to stop streaming/recording after a specified period associated with a loss of signal?I use mencoder to record over-the-air television recordings. Most of the time there are no problems.Occasionally a station's transmission signal disappears, caused by quirky atmospheric conditions, usually at night.Noticing these signal outages is easy by the mencoder error message:dvb_streaming_read, attempt N. %x failed with errno %y when reading %z bytes"Lengthy outages are unbearable because mencoder silently waits forever rather than quit. The significant problem with lengthy signal outages is mencoder continues recording for the time specified by the -endpos parameter. Thus, for example, if the recording is scheduled for 2 hours and there is a 20 minute loss of signal, the recording does not end until 2 hours and 20 minutes after starting.

Generally, when the interruption is lengthy the recording is ruined and I don't care to watch. I would like to programmatically tell mencoder to stop waiting and quit.Is there a way to do this? Say, after ten minutes of no signal, just terminate.I do not notice any parameters that might offer that option, but I could be overlooking something obvious. I tried the -skiplimit parameter with no success.I am aware of the MPlayer/MEncoder Tips and Tricks thread.
