Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting Front Audio Jacks To Work?
Jan 4, 2011I run Ubuntu 10.10 on my Intel DG965RY. My front audio ports don't work in Ubuntu, the rear one does. I never got it working earlier when I had Ubuntu 10.04 but this time I am going to try it again. My codec is SigmaTel STAC9227

I know something that I will have to change the model of my module to make the front audio jack works but I couldn't find a model related line in my ALSA configuration file - /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (I was able to get to that point in Ubuntu 10.04, may be something has changed).

Nov 10, 2010I just got my new Shuttle SG41J1 v2. Everything works fine under 10.10 except audio. I can hear sound at the headphone-jack on the frontpanel but the jack on the rear isn't working. I tried different models in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (3stack, 5stack, test), nothing helped. All channels in alsamixer are unmuted and the sliders turned up. In the output of alsa-info.sh I can see Nodes for all jacks (Speaker, Mic and Line-In at Ext-Rear for example) but alsamixer and all other mixer-applications I tried shows only Master, PCM, Front Mic, Line, Mic and Aux (all in the Playback section). Also I found nothing in /usr/ share/doc/ alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz about my Codec "IDT ID 76c1".

Jan 29, 2010with my motherboard the onboard back sound jack's audio is VERY quiet, but the front jacks wired into HD audio work fine. (I'm building an htpc, btw.)
I tried for weeks to get it to work, but eventually I just pulled a cheap Dynex DX-SC51 card from another machine and turns out it works, but now I can't use the inputs and headphone jack on the front of the case without going into system>preferences>sound and changing "output" back to "internal analog audio stereo"
Is there any way to activate these two audio devices at the same time?

Aug 26, 2011My headphone jacks, both of them, do not work. When I plug headphones into either of them, the speakers cut out but no sound comes into the headphones.They work fine with my G1 phone so I know they aren't the problem. I had a different issue and was running 2.32.5blah-blah for a while and thought that was the problem.I'm on unstable -- if someone can tell me how to emit my kernel version I can c/p it into here but I'm a n00b. It's 3.0.something (remembered from the grub menu).

Aug 9, 2010I recently migrated back to Linux after a 2 year stint with Mac OS X. One feature I liked from the Mac side was that there were 2 audio modes in terms of volume and mute. For example, I can mute my laptop speakers (just press mute), plug in headphones, set volume, and watch a movie. If I accidentlaly unplug the headphones, sound wouldn't come out of the laptop speakers since they are muted.
Was wondering whether this is available in Ubuntu? I wouldn't want to bother the office or the people I'm flying on the plane with.

Dec 6, 2010I've decided to get back into using Suse as my primary OS! I'm almost there, only a few minor issues to work out remain. One of these issues is with my audio drivers. My audio is working for the most part. I have sound coming from both my speakers and the front-audio jack. When I plug headphones into the front jack the audio is muted; however, unless I unmute the audio I won't get any sound from my headphone jack. The volume is shared. How can I give headphones a separate volume control? Or just completely mute my speakers when I have headphones plugged in. Using alsamixer, Headphones are disabled. Which seems odd. Jul 24, 2011In my dell xps 15 i have an onboard sound card which is 'Intel High Definition audio' code...
the problem is my sound system (Creative INSPIRE 5300) take input through three 3.5 mm jacks one for front right and left, one for rear right and left, and one for center and subwoofer.
In windows 7 when i connect each jack it asks me which device am i connecting and i can select each one accordingly. (the rear two speakers were connected to the mic in port of the system.)
now in ubuntu 11.04 i cannot configure the system to get the sound out through the 3.5 mm jacks.. i can select the sound device to get the sound out through the hdmi port but unfortunately i don't have an hdmi surround system.

Apr 30, 2011After upgrade to 11.04, my headphones won't work when connected to the front audio jack. I checked alsamixer and they aren't muted. Switching to "analog headphones" on the volume icon didn't did anything. I can only get audio from the rear port.

After fidiling with some config files, i forget which config thing it is in but there was numerous mentions about where you had to put "options I am already added to the audio group for my computer and running vlc as root does not work (vlc-wrapper) regular won't run as root, i tried that because i have fixed other hardware problems by running programs as root. The laptop is a HP Pavillion dv5-1000 and has a regular sound card and a hdmi port (the sound is configured to play out of the non hdmi one)

Jul 21, 2010since updating my laptop to 10.04, I can't get any sound out of my headphones. If I plug the jack in, the sound from the loudspeakers turns off, but the headphones stay quiet.
I have run alsamixer and in fact the volume for the headphones is stuck to zero, and it's not possible to increase it.

What I find funny, is that amixer reports that I don't have the capability of regulating the headphone volume:

I have also used the AlsaUpgrade script to get the latest version of alsa, but it still doesn't work.

Aug 13, 2010I loaded Ubuntu Remix onto my Eee PC 1015PE. I tried to install Desktop switcher and it messed up. But now I log into it using the Gnome Session which gives me the better desktop.
However.
The sound works fine though my speakers but when I connect headphones.
The sound stops from the speakers but does not work on the headphones.

Dec 4, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:
The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.

I'm having a bit of an issue which right now is causing me to regret deleting my windows partition. It'd be nice to have my dual boot set up right now.

When I unmute it, it plays on both at the same time.
