Debian Hardware :: Headphone Jacks Emit No Sound

Aug 26, 2011

My headphone jacks, both of them, do not work. When I plug headphones into either of them, the speakers cut out but no sound comes into the headphones. They work fine with my G1 phone so I know they aren't the problem. I had a different issue and was running 2.32.5blah-blah for a while and thought that was the problem.I'm on unstable -- if someone can tell me how to emit my kernel version I can c/p it into here but I'm a n00b. It's 3.0.something (remembered from the grub menu).

Ubuntu :: Speakers Emit Loud Sound At Third Level

Jun 22, 2010

so, i just recently installed ubuntu and i tried to go watch a videos video and i noticed my speakers weren't working. then i raised the volume from mute to "1", no sound, then to "2", again no sound. then i went to "3" and the sound came on but it was ridiculously loud. it does this with all sounds from my computer, the first 2 notches don't emit any sound but the third and above emit sound at a very high level. running a dell precision m90 notebook. never had a problem when running my windows 7 boot, only my ubuntu boot.

Software :: Mapping Sound Jacks (line Outs)

Feb 18, 2011

I have an Ubuntu machine, with an on-board sound card. One of those with about 5 output jacks (green, blue, red, black, pink). As far as I know, there are defaults as to what goes where, like black=center, red=line-in, etc.

How can I change what goes where? let's try the easy case, that all play the same output or that it's stereo and red=right blue=left?

I was reading a bit and was hoping it was something to do with .asoundrc, but got lost there
aplay -l output:

Code:

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Use Sound Card At The Same Time As Front Audio Jacks?

Jan 29, 2010

with my motherboard the onboard back sound jack's audio is VERY quiet, but the front jacks wired into HD audio work fine. (I'm building an htpc, btw.)

I tried for weeks to get it to work, but eventually I just pulled a cheap Dynex DX-SC51 card from another machine and turns out it works, but now I can't use the inputs and headphone jack on the front of the case without going into system>preferences>sound and changing "output" back to "internal analog audio stereo"

Is there any way to activate these two audio devices at the same time?

Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.

Ubuntu :: No Sound Out Of Headphone Jack?

Dec 21, 2010

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655, workin with Maverick. Sound comes out of my main speakers that are on my laptop, but when I try to plug in my Bose headphones or my Logitech speakers, they don't want to work period. The headphone jack works I know for a fact because it works in Windows.

When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".

General :: No Sound Out Of Headphone Port On Laptop / Get That?

Sep 26, 2010

I cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).

It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...

This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)

The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:

The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.
