Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Headphone Sound With 10.04 On Acer Laptop

Aug 14, 2010

I have a problem with headphone sound with my Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820 TG. When I insert the headphones, the sound from speakers stop, but there is no sound in the headphones. Manipulating with the alsamixer did not help. Modifying /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf also did not help.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound From Headphone On Acer Timeline 8172

Oct 24, 2010

on my new laptop Acer TravelMate TimelineX 8172T, I have some sound problems. I do have sound from the laptop speakers, but plugging in the headphones doesn't mute the main speakers, and also does not give any sound on the headphones. I am running Kubuntu 10.10 64 bit here, and any hint how to solve this would be very welcome indeed.Alsa is version 1.0.23, but alsamixer doesn't show any devices. It only says "Device: HDA Intel" and "Chip: Conexant CX20585", but the elements list is empty and no volume sliders are shown.

General :: No Sound Out Of Headphone Port On Laptop / Get That?

Sep 26, 2010

I cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).

It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...

This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound Through Headphone Jack

Dec 4, 2010

I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:

The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound From Headphone Jack 9.10 64 Bit Version?

Sound works through the internal speakers in both Windows and Ubuntu. Sound through the headphone jack works only in Windows. The sound card is a IDT 92HD75B3X5.This is a fresh 9.10 install, save for the changes mentioned below.I've attempted to use the gnome-alsa fix that's mentioned in a few threads, but I don't have a "Headphone" tab to "un-mute".I've attempted to recompile the driver as mentioned in this thread

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Skype: Split Ringing And Calls To Headphone And Main Speaker On A Laptop?

Jun 3, 2010

I'm running 10.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1505 laptop. Normally, when I plug my headphones in, all sound is diverted to them. I haven't found anything in sound preferences that changes this.(Under Sound Preferences, Output tab, there's a dropdown called Connector. It has options: "Analog Heaphones", "Analog Output" and "Analog Speakers" but they don't seem to make a difference.) I'd like to leave my headphones plugged in all day and setup my machine to play all sounds through my speakers (including Skype ringing), except Skype calls, which should play through my headphones. Skype has a feature to split the ringing and call sounds, i.e. play them on different devices, but the only option in each dropdown is "PulseAudio Server (local)".

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting Headphone Sound Too Loud - Can't Control It / Make It Normal?

Aug 16, 2010

I have a laptop DELL Latitude D600. The sounds works great and I can control it with the laptop buttons (increase/decrease/mute volume).

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. In prior versions, I could control independently the volume for the speakers and for the headphones. And I was able to "join" them together so that when I increase the volume, it increases in both.

Now in 10.04 I can't find where to join them. But that's fine. The problem I have now is that the volume for the headphones seems to be a 10x multiplier of the "master" volume. For example, in order to hear "normal" on the headphones, the master volume has to be almost on mute. If I increase to 1/4 of the way out, the sound is too loud for a human being.

I went to alsamixer to see what's going on and started with everything at 0.

So I put my mouse on top of the volume control on the taskbar and with one "click" on the wheel (to increase volume) I get this code...

That's just one 'click' of the wheel... and the volume control shows almost nothing on the volume bar (the tooltip says Output: 5% -75.70 dB.

In the past the 5% gain in the output was proportional for the headphones. But now it's multiplied by a lot. This makes the volume control useless when using headphones. I have to go to alsamixer to adjust manually.

And to top it off, the new Ubuntu doesn't have the "old" volume control where you can see the level of each output element.

Hardware :: Sound In Acer 7736zg Laptop / Plugged Into A Black "hole" As There Is Not Green One Available?

May 3, 2010

Everytime I connect some external headspeakers (headset?) on my laptop the built in speakers are not muted.

My laptop is a dual boot and this problem does not exist on Windows 7, which probably means that this is not some strange hardware problem.

One more think that might help you find a solution for me is that there speakers are plugged into a black "hole" as there is not green one available.

Actually there are 3 colored "holes" for the jacks to be plugged in.A blue one (do not have a clue what might be plugged in there). A pink one which is for microphone and a black one which works fine in Windows 7 when i plug in my headset.

P.S I also dump some hardware info that might prove useful to you.

When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".
