Is there any way to get the headphone port below the cd tray to work as audio-output? It has a headphone symbol on it, but it doesn't give any sound.

The default output audio port Ubuntu doesn't work on my system. It should be "Analog Mono Output/Amplifier", instead of "Analog Output/Amplifier". I can easily change that in sound preferences, just by choosing the right port in the "Output" tab. The problem is this would only apply to a single account, and I would like to change it system-wide, so it applies to all accounts on the system (I have more than 100 users...).
Update: I can achieve the same effect as I would by changing it in sound preferences using the following command: pacmd 'set-sink-port' 'alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.5.analog-stereo analog-output-mono;output-amplifier-on' Unfortunately that's still not system-wide,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 in a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Intel gma X3100 integrated graphics. I occasionally use it for watching movies in an LCD TV, however when I connect it I can get it to output video fine, but audio is a no go, when I select hdmi audio in the sound options I get no sound.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my sound card Microphone is working, headphones work but with kind of a low audio output, laptop speakers do not work at all. I have checked alsamixer and pulseaudio nothing is muted, tried all sort of different combinations and pulseaudio actually sees that mplayer for example is playing music, or skype is in videocall and using the sound device, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

I've been getting the hang of ubuntu. It's been a good switch from windows 7.
I'm having a bit of an issue which right now is causing me to regret deleting my windows partition. It'd be nice to have my dual boot set up right now.
Ubuntu is not recognizing my headphone output on my laptop.

I'm a newbie, running Natty 11.04 on a Toshiba Satellite L645D laptop. If I boot the computer with headphones or an external speaker connection plugged into the headphone jack, I get no output through it. If I plug the headphones in after boot up, audio comes through fine, but there is no "auto-mute" on the internal speakers. If I restart/reboot after having had headphones plugged in, even if they are unplugged during the reboot, I again get no output through the headphone jack.
I have to actually shut the computer down, then start back up in order to regain the headphone audio.I've looked through previous threads discussing similar issues and tried updating, checking the ALSA settings (and I, like seemingly many other users, have no option to control headphone sensitivity, or whatever it was called). I don't have a lot of time to mess around trying to fix this, so I'm kind of wondering if I can just download another version in which this is not an issue? Maybe the stable release?

After upgrade to 11.04, my headphones won't work when connected to the front audio jack. I checked alsamixer and they aren't muted. Switching to "analog headphones" on the volume icon didn't did anything. I can only get audio from the rear port.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).
It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...
This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)
I have f13 installed in my system.My problem is ,i can hear sound thro' my desktop speakers but not with my audio headset. I have tried in many ways to fix it , by reinstalling pulse audio , installing ALSA etc But failed. In my system menu bar -- in preferences sub menu-- there is no " ADVANCED AUDIO CONTROL" available to edit sound output. similarly i am not able to use the mic of the headphone.

However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). I recently migrated back to Linux after a 2 year stint with Mac OS X. One feature I liked from the Mac side was that there were 2 audio modes in terms of volume and mute. For example, I can mute my laptop speakers (just press mute), plug in headphones, set volume, and watch a movie. If I accidentlaly unplug the headphones, sound wouldn't come out of the laptop speakers since they are muted.
Was wondering whether this is available in Ubuntu? I wouldn't want to bother the office or the people I'm flying on the plane with.
I installed KMplayer but I cant play video files...No video output but can get only the audio output...So how to make this work for videos?

First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

I've decided to get back into using Suse as my primary OS! I'm almost there, only a few minor issues to work out remain. One of these issues is with my audio drivers. My audio is working for the most part. I have sound coming from both my speakers and the front-audio jack. When I plug headphones into the front jack the audio is muted; however, unless I unmute the audio I won't get any sound from my headphone jack. The volume is shared. How can I give headphones a separate volume control? Or just completely mute my speakers when I have headphones plugged in. Using alsamixer, Headphones are disabled. Which seems odd. So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
All of my audio is working great now on Open Suse 11.2: MP3s, Skype,Flashplayer etc.all are working great. There is only one strange thing that is happening, when I plug in my headphones I get audio coming out of my laptop and my headphones! How can I get my audio to come out of my headphones only when I plug them in?

The sound icon dissapears on the toolbar. To get it back and audio to start working I have to $sudo alsa force-reloadIt seems to happen everytime there is a network delay, the movie will stop for a second and then when it plays the sound is gone

Does support exist for the MacPro1,1's front headphone port yet? Strangely I cannot get either of the rear analog audio ports to work either. I have tried setting

and totally removing the line of the alsa-base.conf file. I restarted after each of these tests. Only the imac24 option does anything, activating the front speaker, but none of the 1/8" analog ports work then. I run Ubuntu exclusively on this box, so I would really love to get some sort of output other than the internal speaker working. Ideally this would be the front headphones jack, but I am not too picky.

My only problem is that the headphone minijack-out wont work. When I plug in a minijack, the pc-speakers just keeps on rocking.
I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
