I'm using an HP Pavilion dv7 and so far I've been unable to get my headphone jacks in the front to function at all. I've browsed various forums for the last couple days trying to find a solution but have been unsuccessful so far.

When I plug headphones into either of them, the speakers cut out but no sound comes into the headphones.They work fine with my G1 phone so I know they aren't the problem. I had a different issue and was running 2.32.5blah-blah for a while and thought that was the problem.I'm on unstable -- if someone can tell me how to emit my kernel version I can c/p it into here but I'm a n00b. It's 3.0.something (remembered from the grub menu).

I know something that I will have to change the model of my module to make the front audio jack works but I couldn't find a model related line in my ALSA configuration file - /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (I was able to get to that point in Ubuntu 10.04, may be something has changed).
I just installed 10.10) i had speaker audio on my laptop but the front jacks for head phones didn't work. After fidiling with some config files, i forget which config thing it is in but there was numerous mentions about where you had to put "options I am already added to the audio group for my computer and running vlc as root does not work (vlc-wrapper) regular won't run as root, i tried that because i have fixed other hardware problems by running programs as root. The laptop is a HP Pavillion dv5-1000 and has a regular sound card and a hdmi port (the sound is configured to play out of the non hdmi one)

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my dell xps 15 i have an onboard sound card which is 'Intel High Definition audio' code...
the problem is my sound system (Creative INSPIRE 5300) take input through three 3.5 mm jacks one for front right and left, one for rear right and left, and one for center and subwoofer.
In windows 7 when i connect each jack it asks me which device am i connecting and i can select each one accordingly. (the rear two speakers were connected to the mic in port of the system.)
now in ubuntu 11.04 i cannot configure the system to get the sound out through the 3.5 mm jacks.. i can select the sound device to get the sound out through the hdmi port but unfortunately i don't have an hdmi surround system.
I have an Ubuntu machine, with an on-board sound card. One of those with about 5 output jacks (green, blue, red, black, pink). As far as I know, there are defaults as to what goes where, like black=center, red=line-in, etc.
How can I change what goes where? let's try the easy case, that all play the same output or that it's stereo and red=right blue=left?

I have f13 installed in my system.My problem is ,i can hear sound thro' my desktop speakers but not with my audio headset. I have tried in many ways to fix it , by reinstalling pulse audio , installing ALSA etc But failed. In my system menu bar -- in preferences sub menu-- there is no " ADVANCED AUDIO CONTROL" available to edit sound output. similarly i am not able to use the mic of the headphone.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just got my new Shuttle SG41J1 v2. Everything works fine under 10.10 except audio. I can hear sound at the headphone-jack on the frontpanel but the jack on the rear isn't working. I tried different models in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (3stack, 5stack, test), nothing helped. All channels in alsamixer are unmuted and the sliders turned up. In the output of alsa-info.sh I can see Nodes for all jacks (Speaker, Mic and Line-In at Ext-Rear for example) but alsamixer and all other mixer-applications I tried shows only Master, PCM, Front Mic, Line, Mic and Aux (all in the Playback section). Also I found nothing in /usr/ share/doc/ alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz about my Codec "IDT ID 76c1".

I can Hear the sound but at times its cracky on both Headphone and speakers when i plug-in the headphone jack in the front pannel (front pannel is AC 97), the speakers continue to play. microphone fails to work I have removed Pulse audio and its subcomponents and reinstalled it.

I fixed the problem, but I don't remember exactly how. I think it was something to do with editing the alsa audio conf file, but the file is named differently in Fedora. The sound works fine from the internal speakers, but when I plug in the headphones I get nothing. Anyways, I'm on an Asus EEE 1005HA using Fedora 13 32bit.

with my motherboard the onboard back sound jack's audio is VERY quiet, but the front jacks wired into HD audio work fine. (I'm building an htpc, btw.)
I tried for weeks to get it to work, but eventually I just pulled a cheap Dynex DX-SC51 card from another machine and turns out it works, but now I can't use the inputs and headphone jack on the front of the case without going into system>preferences>sound and changing "output" back to "internal analog audio stereo"
Is there any way to activate these two audio devices at the same time?
I have a marmitek x10 remote controller that I had been using in opensuse. However I decided to upgrade my distro to fedora 12. I setup everything that I need to for mythtv however Im unable to get the remote to work. IRW doesnt return anything yet I know the driver is working as irrecord picks up the input. here are the steps Ive followed...
1) I can see the usb device ok....

2) I know it uses the atilibusb drivers, which Im able to prove by doing the following:

When I press keys on the remote I see the input is received on the screen.
3) I manually start lircd....

4) when I try irw, I dont get any output what so ever.......
I did modify my /etc/sysconfig/lirc however I had been trying gnome-lirc-properties to see if that could get it working, so Im not sure if its applied a wrong setting in the config file.
I just installed FC13 on my HP laptop and everything has been working great with one exception. When I plug in my headphones, it doesn't mute the speakers and there is no sound in the headphones. I've checked alsamixer and the gnome-volume-control and all necessary channels are unmuted and turned up. But I have no idea how to proceed. I'm afraid to make any configuration changes because I don't want to lose the sound completely. Here is the output from lspci

I am unable to get any transparencies to work with compiz. The only way I can get a window or panel to change it's transparency is if I hold ALT + mouse scroll. This changes it temporarily but reverts back to it's original setting as soon as the window is closed.I'm trying to accomplish transparencies to all windows and drop down menus. View 1 Replies View RelatedSince moving from centos 5.6 to fedora 15 a week ago I have been unable to get Last Pass firefox addon to work correctly. Those of you familiar to last pass will probably have seen the error message before in a variety of situations, namely "An error occurred while attempting to contact the server. Please check your internet connection." This error appears as soon as you log in (which it does manage to do) but instantly loses authentication - seems like the cookie expires almost instantly and therefore all saved sites/passwords require re-authentication with LP to use.
No network configuration has altered since the OS change, but F15 comes with firefox 4 rather than 3.6.x in centos. I know the last pass plugin should work with FF4 and have read suggestions about SSL/TLS version settings (which are 3.0 and 1.0 respectively) and disabling SELinx. Neither of these have made any difference.
I am running Fedora 12 on an Intel Core 2 Duo system.
I ran a software update which installed a new kernel (2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686.PAE) along with many other things.
I am now unable to run VirtualBox which I had installed and running successfully before the update.
I tried removing and reinstalling VirtualBox from YUMEX, and rebooting. This did not help.
When I launch VirtualBox from a terminal, it produces the following output:

I'm not sure what it is complaining about. The files VirtualBox.so and VBoxVMM.so both exist in the /usr/lib/virtualbox directory.
What can be done to get VirtualBox working again on this system?
I have Fedora 11 installed on a system that initially had an ATI 1650 type card. I recently replaced it with a GeForce GT 220. I don't believe there was ever an xorg.conf generated or used with the ATI card. Initially, when I replaced cards and rebooted, I was able to start up KDE or GNOME but with only 2 very low resolutions available(the highest being 800x600). Next I ran Xorg -configure to generate an xorg.conf file. Everything I am seeing in this file seems to make sense. But now, when I startx all I get is a red error box being displayed by the CRT monitor with this message:
Signal Frequency is out of range
FH 30.1 kHz FV 24 Hz
Please Change Signal Timing
The only way I can get my X system back is to go into the xorg.conf file (in the Device Section) and change the driver to vesa. But I still only have 2 very low resolutions available.
