All of my audio is working great now on Open Suse 11.2: MP3s, Skype,Flashplayer etc.all are working great. There is only one strange thing that is happening, when I plug in my headphones I get audio coming out of my laptop and my headphones! How can I get my audio to come out of my headphones only when I plug them in?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI might have a different problems as I have a newer laptop, a HP dv6-2170us with intel i5 cpu. I had no wireless with the 2.6.31 kernel so I upgraded to the 2.6.34 and had to manually compile my wireless driver. Everything works great now except the sound issue. I thought it use to work out the box with the old kernel, but then again I might be wrong. I knwo it works in the "other os" dual booting and all. Its a not a huge issue, but hopeing I could resolve it. Here is some of the info from reading some of the other posts. the model=dell-vostro I just tried to see if that works, which is doesnt, so thats why thats in my sound.conf file.

Have I missed anything? I have tried the fix here: Audio coming from both headphone and laptop speakers - Page 3 - openSUSE Forums page 3 about adding a repo and upgrading, but that upgrade wants me to revert back to the older kernel in which case I dont have wireless support or acpi working proporly, so thats not a doable thing for me.
I recently installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7 and everything is great except the sound. Whenever I play sounds the audio only comes out of my built in speakers and the headphone jack does nothing. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 on a Toshiba Sattelite L655D-S5066.

I recently migrated back to Linux after a 2 year stint with Mac OS X. One feature I liked from the Mac side was that there were 2 audio modes in terms of volume and mute. For example, I can mute my laptop speakers (just press mute), plug in headphones, set volume, and watch a movie. If I accidentlaly unplug the headphones, sound wouldn't come out of the laptop speakers since they are muted.
Was wondering whether this is available in Ubuntu? I wouldn't want to bother the office or the people I'm flying on the plane with.
so my problem is that i can't disable the speakers on my laptop when i plug in my headphones. in other words, i get sound from both the headphones and the speakers, when the expected behavior is to disable the speakers when headphones are plugged in, and enable the speakers when headphones are unplugged..
i've been looking around the forum and google, and i found a way to adjust the speaker and headphone volume manually in alsamixer. To adjust the headphone volume on alsamixer, i can raise or lower volume using the "Front" volume bar. To adjust the speaker volume, i raise or lower volume on the "Speaker" volume bar.
so, it's cool to know that i can do this manually, but i'm sure there's an option i can put in alsa-base.conf to automate this. i just can't seem to find that option...
anyway, i'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit...and here's my alsa-base.conf file

I was trying to fix my audio, I had it coming out of my headphones and speakers at the same time. I was told to run this script to try to fix the problem but it only made it worse. I've attached screen shots showing that I now have no hardware showing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've decided to get back into using Suse as my primary OS! I'm almost there, only a few minor issues to work out remain. One of these issues is with my audio drivers. My audio is working for the most part. I have sound coming from both my speakers and the front-audio jack. When I plug headphones into the front jack the audio is muted; however, unless I unmute the audio I won't get any sound from my headphone jack. The volume is shared. How can I give headphones a separate volume control? Or just completely mute my speakers when I have headphones plugged in. Using alsamixer, Headphones are disabled. Which seems odd. When I unmute it, it plays on both at the same time.
I can't seem to get it working properly. I've seen people with the same problem but never figured how they got it working and it usually depended on their computer brand. Anyone?

What I want to do is to make both, headphones and speakers, play the same output at the same time. I believe it is possible to make it since many people are facing such condition and treat it as a pulseaudio bug (or smth like that) And it would be perfect if it was possible to easily switch between the modified configuration (dual output) and original configuration. I've noticed there are some profiles (analog output, duplex, surround etc.). Is there any way to modify those profiles? If it was, I could modify the Analog Surround Output 4.0 profile and assign rear speakers to headphones and front speakers to internal speakers of my computer.

New eeePC 1015PEM netbook, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD. Came with Win 7 Starter; I retained this and installed openSUSE 11.3 alongside. Everything works well in Win 7 Most things also work well in oS 11.3, but there is a knotty problem with audio from the built-in speakers. Headphones are OK, but the speakers don't work reliably. Others have reported this on similar machines, and a number of "fixes" have been proposed in a wide range of forums, but so far I haven't found any that work.
I've actually installed oS 11.3 twice. After the first install I had no speaker sound at all, but after a day or two fiddling around it started to work of its own accord for no reason I could point to. For unrelated reasons (a silly mistake by me in Win 7) I then had to re-install oS 11.3 from scratch. This time the speaker sound worked after install, but then it dropped out again a couple of days later. Headphone audio has remained OK throughout.
I'm aware of and have applied the acpi_osi=Linux kernel parameter to enable the Fn keys on the machine (including sound volume and mute/unmute), so it's not that. I've combed the forums and Google extensively for other suggestions, and have tried them - including installing alsamixergui. I've also installed a properly matched ALSA KMP which changed some of the alsamixer controls but didn't cure the problem. Since it all works very well in Win7 and works sometimes in oS 11.3, I conclude that the problem is not with hardware but is something in software.

I am running it on HP DC7800 workstation and the performance is superb. One problem I have is that my sound is not working. I have a problem with my sound card Microphone is working, headphones work but with kind of a low audio output, laptop speakers do not work at all. I have checked alsamixer and pulseaudio nothing is muted, tried all sort of different combinations and pulseaudio actually sees that mplayer for example is playing music, or skype is in videocall and using the sound device, but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

When I insert the headphones, the sound from speakers stop, but there is no sound in the headphones. Manipulating with the alsamixer did not help. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. The audio did not work prior to updating the system & software so it wasn't the updates. I have Bose Companion 2 Series 2 (Multimedia Speaker System) plugged in. When I was on Windows (I installed Ubuntu on top of it) they worked just fine. My headset (Microsoft LifeChat) work just fine. It is not muted nor are they on low volume.
If Bose Companion 2 require a proprietary driver how would I go about finding an alternative? I checked their website and all the software requires Windows NT+. I have tried reloading ALSA. I have installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras.

i'm currently using ubuntu 10.04 with AsRock p55/pro motherboard (supports bluray audio). I've just hooked up my logitech x-530 5.1 surround sound speakers, but there's no sound. My headphones work fine via the front panel jack. I dont think i've forgotten to plug any cables/pins on the motherboard. I cant install the asrock bios either, because ubuntu can't open the files. I've tried rehooking everything, but nothing seems to work. Could it be that ive forgotten to attach some cables? or is it a program problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1505 laptop. Normally, when I plug my headphones in, all sound is diverted to them. I haven't found anything in sound preferences that changes this.(Under Sound Preferences, Output tab, there's a dropdown called Connector.It has options: "Analog Heaphones", "Analog Output" and "Analog Speakers" but they don't seem to make a difference.) I'd like to leave my headphones plugged in all day and setup my machine to play all sounds through my speakers (including Skype ringing), except Skype calls, which should play through my headphones. Skype has a feature to split the ringing and call sounds, i.e. play them on different devices, but the only option in each dropdown is "PulseAudio Server (local)".
