After installing ubuntu 10.10 on my toshiba satellite L655D-S5050 I noticed the headphone port does not work, I've tried a number ways to get it working but they have all proved fruitless, also my built-in microphone does not work.

and totally removing the line of the alsa-base.conf file. I restarted after each of these tests. Only the imac24 option does anything, activating the front speaker, but none of the 1/8" analog ports work then. I run Ubuntu exclusively on this box, so I would really love to get some sort of output other than the internal speaker working. Ideally this would be the front headphones jack, but I am not too picky.

I cannot get sound out of the headphone port on a laptop. Headphones are plugged in, and sound comes out of the internal speakers. Windows behaves normally (sound switches to headphones when headphones are inserted).
It did work in Linux at one point, but something changed, we're just not sure what. Rebooting doesn't fix. This appears to occur whether or not PulseAudio is running. code...
This works in Windows: You plug headphones in, the internal speakers stop making noise, and noise comes out the head phones. Windows says I only have two sound cards: the HDMI port (which I don't care about) and the "sound card", which it claims is a "Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio" In Windows, both the internal speakers and the headphone jack show up as one soundcard, which in my experience, is typical. (This is a laptop)
Is there any way to get the headphone port below the cd tray to work as audio-output? It has a headphone symbol on it, but it doesn't give any sound.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu 11.04 dual boot with vista in a gateway laptop. The internal laptop speakers work fine, but anything I plug into the headphone jack does not work (I have headphones and speakers that I use through the headphone jack).
I've tried a ton of things like re-installing pulse, alsa mixer, making sure everything is turned up and NOT muted, and I can't get any sound.

UPDATE-SOLVED: Ok I finally found something that solved my issue. For any future gateway users that may read this -- try this fix here (I'm using an M model, the fix is for a T model, it worked anyway).

I've Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my desktop dual boot with Windows 7. This is my motherboard. My motherboard has 6 slots for sound devices and I use a pair of speakers and my headphones together, so they all take up 3 slots, i.e. 1 for speaker, 1 for headphone output and 1 for headphone's mic. I'm able to listen from my headphone as well as speakers at any given point of time on Windows 7, but recently when I installed Ubuntu, it only gives audio output to my headphones, and not my speakers. How I can receive audio output on the speakers as well as headphones?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus G60vx notebook and when I updated to 10.10 I lost audio through my headphones. The speakers work fine, just not the headphones. Normally I am able to sole these things on my own through searching forums and what not, but no solutions I have found work for me so far. Things I have tried:
1. Make sure the latest drivers are installed according to the above, then edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-laptop
Reboot and test. Other models to test are:
thinkpad
ideapad
hp_laptop
dell-vostro
olpc-xo-1_5
2. Checking on the alsamixer thru the terminal. Headphones is green, but there is only the 00 notch, like there is no volume to change.
3. Updating my alsa files via synaptics, my kernel model is 2.6.35-23-generic. There is no alsa drivers for this kernel that I can find yet, however I found this, Ubuntu supplied Linux modules for version 2.6.35 ALSA snapshots. Installed it still doesnt work.
after i upgrade to ubuntu 11.04, sound from headphone front socket is not working anymore though if i plug it in back socket is still working. before i upgraded my system, i was using ubuntu 10.1 with Linux Kernel 2.6.32.x and everything worked (back and front).my question is:1. what is causing this problem? 2. know how to fix it?[URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 9.04 a few days back and realized my headphone jack just doesn't work when plugged in and the sound still comes from the main speaker. I tried following some of the instructions over the net but wasn't able to solve the problem.
My System :
DELL VOSTRO 1520.
My sound card:

It worked fine with 8.04, although it wasn't as loud as it usually is with windows, but since I've updated its stopped working. When plugging the headphones in, a little sound comes through for a second when halfway plugged in, then nothing when fully plugged.
Any idea on how to fix this?
i'm using jaunty jackalope ubuntu 9.04, my desktop speakers are working perfectly. NOw i wish to make my zebronics headphone work with it too. In windows my motherboard driver was from realtek.
i went to the volume control option and in that i see the following

I have a Fujitsu Siemans Amilo A1630 installed with squeeze and am having problems making the headphone jack work with ALSA, there is no sound from this port and jack auto-detect does not work. All drivers are present and correct and necessary modules for my sound device appear to be loading properly, the device seems fully functional except for headphones.

When I plug in my headphones, it doesn't mute the speakers and there is no sound in the headphones. I've checked alsamixer and the gnome-volume-control and all necessary channels are unmuted and turned up. But I have no idea how to proceed. I'm afraid to make any configuration changes because I don't want to lose the sound completely. Here is the output from lspci

since updating my laptop to 10.04, I can't get any sound out of my headphones. If I plug the jack in, the sound from the loudspeakers turns off, but the headphones stay quiet.
I have run alsamixer and in fact the volume for the headphones is stuck to zero, and it's not possible to increase it.

What I find funny, is that amixer reports that I don't have the capability of regulating the headphone volume:

I have also used the AlsaUpgrade script to get the latest version of alsa, but it still doesn't work.
I loaded Ubuntu Remix onto my Eee PC 1015PE. I tried to install Desktop switcher and it messed up. But now I log into it using the Gnome Session which gives me the better desktop.
However.
The sound works fine though my speakers but when I connect headphones.
The sound stops from the speakers but does not work on the headphones.

I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:
The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. I've been getting the hang of ubuntu. It's been a good switch from windows 7.
I'm having a bit of an issue which right now is causing me to regret deleting my windows partition. It'd be nice to have my dual boot set up right now.

When I plug in my headphone on the front panel of the computer case, sound output is muted on both: headphone and speakers.
When I unmute it, it plays on both at the same time.
I can't seem to get it working properly. I've seen people with the same problem but never figured how they got it working and it usually depended on their computer brand. Anyone?

I've gone through alsamixer, and the volume is up, and nothing seems to be muted, and I've tried to do everything I could throughout the sound options in the Gnome System Settings.

After trying at least a dozen distros, I'm a happy OpenSuse user now and hoping to stick to it for some time now. I am running it on HP DC7800 workstation and the performance is superb. One problem I have is that my sound is not working. If I plug-in the headphone to the front jack, I sear sound just fine but nothing from internal speakers. Here are some details:
