May 9, 2010
I can not get sound to exit from my headphone jack, whenever I plug it in, no sounds come out. Notebook model is Acer 3820TG. By the way, I've tried adding the line for HDA Intel with udo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I have a Dell Vostro 320 running Ubuntu 10.10. I can get sound through the onboard speakers but when I plug headphones into the jack, the onboard speakers mute (correct behaviour), but no sound comes from the headphones (incorrect behaviour). The headphones do work with other sound sources.I have made sure all the alsa drivers are up to date and correct and the system is seeing the sound card OK according to aplay -l:
The alsamixer run from the command line or Gnome shows "Master", "PCM", "Beep" and "Capture" all normal with nothing muted. The alsa-base.conf file has the following as the last line as per various posts that seem to have a fix for this problem:options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro position_fix=0 enable=yes.

I'm dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 64bit on a new HP laptop. In Ubuntu, I'm not getting any sound from the headphone jack. I've tried a couple of different solutions but haven't had much luck. Sound works through the internal speakers in both Windows and Ubuntu. Sound through the headphone jack works only in Windows. The sound card is a IDT 92HD75B3X5.This is a fresh 9.10 install, save for the changes mentioned below.I've attempted to use the gnome-alsa fix that's mentioned in a few threads, but I don't have a "Headphone" tab to "un-mute".I've attempted to recompile the driver as mentioned in this thread

I have a Toshiba Satellite L655, workin with Maverick. Sound comes out of my main speakers that are on my laptop, but when I try to plug in my Bose headphones or my Logitech speakers, they don't want to work period. The headphone jack works I know for a fact because it works in Windows.
When I open up Kmix, it doesn't show my headphone port at all, it shows up "RV710/730 Digital Stereo (HDMI)" which is my TV's audio output and then my main laptops "Internal Audio Analog Stereo".

I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
I am using an acer 4530 laptop. It has a nvidia Nforce MCP77 chipset. and the o/p lsmod| grep snd :

I did a alsa-info and upload the details at:[url]

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656. Anyways my laptop plays sound just fine from the internal speakers but if I plug in my headphones Sound does not come through the headphones but rather continues through the internal speakers.
I believe my issue is that my computer is not detecting it because when i go to sound options it only shows internal audio under my hardware profile
This is my lspci output:

I have a small problem with getting sound to come through my headphone jack with Fedora 13. I switched to Fedora 13 from uBuntu and I had the same problem on uBuntu. I fixed the problem, but I don't remember exactly how. I think it was something to do with editing the alsa audio conf file, but the file is named differently in Fedora. The sound works fine from the internal speakers, but when I plug in the headphones I get nothing. Anyways, I'm on an Asus EEE 1005HA using Fedora 13 32bit.

Just curious if someone could help me with my issue, I've noticed that my internal mic doesn't work, and when I plug in headphones it stops the use of the speakers but I hear nothing through the headphones. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and have had almost no major problems until this. I've searched around and asked a couple friends and have made absolutely no progress.

I have tried every forum that exists, but I have been sadly frustrated in setting up this netbook's headphone jack and internal microphone to work. Basically the speakers work fine, but as soon as I plug in headphones nothing happens, then I unplug the headphones and the speakers work fine. I tried adding the following two lines to the /etc/modprob.d/alsa-base.conf options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack options snd-hda-intel model=dell-vostro enable=1 index=0 one of the other forums told me to do this, but no luck. Also I tried this too: [URL]...

My only glitch with Ubuntu, which runs flawlessly on this beast, otherwise.I have spent more than 50 hours on this problem. In my case, inserting headphone jack doesn't mute internal speakers. There is sound in the headphone though.alsamixer ot gnome-alsamixer doesn't even show the headphone option. So I cannot change their values.I have tried model= various options, with no avail.I have uploaded my information to alsa projct and the link is: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=18...788fc1458ff422

installed Opensuse 11.4 onto the Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW laptop, and all works well except for the headphone jack. Sound works from the laptop speakers and when the headphones are plugged in the sound is muted from the main speakers, but no sound via the headphones.I've looked at other threads within the forum, and it appears that editing the 50-sound.conf file has helped other people, however the soundcard is a Realtek ALC655 (chipset VIA VT82xx), and l cannot see a listing for the ALC655 within the alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txtListed below is the information requested:-[URL]

After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server
if this helps, here is the error message received when jack does not start when the normal duplex option is selected.
21:24:04.867 Patchbay deactivated.
21:24:04.868 Statistics reset.
21:24:04.886 ALSA connection change.
Cannot connect to server socket err = Connection refused
[Code].....
also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.

I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

I don't really understand this. I had Ubuntu 10.10 and everything worked. Then my hard drive crashed and I replaced it and reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10. After the re-install, my headphone jack is no longer sensed. It works when I boot the computer with the jack already in, but if I take it out after the boot it doesn't work. Also, Vica-Versa. If I don't have it in, it won't work when I put it in until a reboot.
If I'm playing music through the internal laptop speakers and put the jack in the music will continue playing through the laptop speakers and not transfer.

I have ubuntu 11.04 dual boot with vista in a gateway laptop. The internal laptop speakers work fine, but anything I plug into the headphone jack does not work (I have headphones and speakers that I use through the headphone jack).
I've tried a ton of things like re-installing pulse, alsa mixer, making sure everything is turned up and NOT muted, and I can't get any sound.
EDIT: here is the alsa info script output...

UPDATE-SOLVED: Ok I finally found something that solved my issue. For any future gateway users that may read this -- try this fix here (I'm using an M model, the fix is for a T model, it worked anyway).
[URL]
which leads to:
[URL]
specifically to add this line to alsa.conf:
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=eapd probe_mask=1 position_fix=1
you can open alsa.conf with this:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I have an Asus G60vx notebook and when I updated to 10.10 I lost audio through my headphones. The speakers work fine, just not the headphones. Normally I am able to sole these things on my own through searching forums and what not, but no solutions I have found work for me so far. Things I have tried:
1. Make sure the latest drivers are installed according to the above, then edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add the following line:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-laptop
Reboot and test. Other models to test are:
thinkpad
ideapad
hp_laptop
dell-vostro
olpc-xo-1_5
2. Checking on the alsamixer thru the terminal. Headphones is green, but there is only the 00 notch, like there is no volume to change.
3. Updating my alsa files via synaptics, my kernel model is 2.6.35-23-generic. There is no alsa drivers for this kernel that I can find yet, however I found this, Ubuntu supplied Linux modules for version 2.6.35 ALSA snapshots. Installed it still doesnt work.

It worked fine with 8.04, although it wasn't as loud as it usually is with windows, but since I've updated its stopped working. When plugging the headphones in, a little sound comes through for a second when halfway plugged in, then nothing when fully plugged.
Any idea on how to fix this?
