I just installed Moonlight but except for the clock that starts running, buffering and connecting to the video server nothing else works.The screen stays grey and there is no sound. I thought it might work when I install Java applet, but also that doesn't fix.

The alternative Moonlight does not work, well..., it probably will if I accept to install a Mircosoft Media Pack (!), and to do so, I have to accept a Microsoft EULA..[URL]..Excepting something from Microsoft... I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

10.04 was working fine till one day I boot up, and there's a weird grey screen. I hear login sound, but nothing is displayed on the screen, it just goes grey with weird shapes and sometimes color stripes. Sort of like grey screen of death...
I thought I would recover my nvidia drivers, but I get the same grey screen when booting from Live CD also. Even from ubuntu recovery remix. Ubuntu Live CD launches, I get a menu, but when it starts to boot, grey screen again.
whenever i try to record a video with gtk screen recorder it starts lagging and when the video is over and you wanna watch it there is a major sound and video lag and nothing is as it should be (could the desktop effects be the issue)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the Moonlight 2.0 Firefox plugin via the .xpi installer. I'm trying to get the Moonlight codec pack installed, but it just isn't working. I agree to the EULA and it seems to download the pack, but every time it says that it cannot verify the downloaded binary. Sometimes it causes Firefox to crash upon download completion. I've tried searching on Google, but I've had no luck.

Seems like others are having similar problems, but that is why this is a FAQ, or a FOP, frequently occurring problem. And if I don't post it again, its not treated as a frequent occurring problem. The college page suggests that I use moonlight to watch, but the iced/tea program it recommended broke other programs operation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around to try and play runescape (Java based) on my laptop. I run Lucid Lynx (in dualboot with vista) and have Java installed. Now I'm trying to get Runescape to work so I have even more reason to ban Vista completely. So I installed Java, and tried in firefox (3.6.6). It loads the log in, I log in, but then I get a grey screen with "applet started" in the status bar but nothing more.
When that didn't work I did some googling and tried it with SeaMonkey(2.0.4) - same result. Would another browser help or is there something else wrong?
I am trying to install on my Powerbook G4 version 9.04. IT went well and I rebooted it boots up and appears to be loading... In fact says "Loading, please wait"
But the screen begins slowly to fade to white until I can't see anything.
There is one error that might be related I noticed "Radeonfb invalid rom contents".
When I close my laptop and open it the screen become grey and blotchy with almost an argyle pattern. This has only started happening after I configured the usb ports to work in my VM. My startup screen also says something about a usb problem, and S for skip and M to manually fix it but I have had no problems with my usb. Oh except for my computer won't start

I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. View 9 Replies View RelatedAlright, the lifehacker article about this Acer machine got me interested in revisiting XBMC as a media center. I bought the AR1600-U910H from Newegg and have been struggling for a couple of weeks to get it working correctly. I opted to install a full Ubuntu desktop to utilize the hardware fully with a standalone version of XBMC. I am currently running Lucid with NVIDIA 256.25 (was running 195 series) driver. Switched to 256 because I heard it fixes the no multi-channel output problem. However, sadly I can't get multi-channel out to work. I have the HDMI output going through my Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver for both audio and video. My problem is I can only get stereo sound out while running XBMC (or any application for that matter).
I've upgraded Alsa to 1.0.23. I've installed new Beta 256.25 NVIDIA driver. I've configured Alsa about 28 different times. I'm at my wits end. So, my question is - does anybody having a similar setup with the ION chip (or the Acer Aspire Revo in particular) where they can succesfully get HDMI digital audio pass through to a receiver (or at least digital multi channel out)? The best I've gotten is 2 channel audio, which doesn't do a lot of good on a 5.1 setup. If I would have known getting multichannel audio would be so difficult I would have rethought starting this endeavor. I don't care if I have to do a fresh reinstall of everything - if that means a different version Ubuntu so be it.
I just tried installing OpenSUSE 11.1 onto my Playstation 3. I installed the otheros.bld fine (which I downloaded via a link provided on the OpenSUSE website). I then inserted my 32-bit Gnome CD for installation and restarted my system. Then on startup, a blue/grey screen appears. Here are the links to the screenshot (sorry for poor quality):

As you can see, the only option is for me to select the gameboot, which obviously takes me back to the Playstation XMB. There are keys at the bottom of the screen, but this is only to change the resolution. So I have no option to install the OS.
Does anybody know why this screen appears and have any ideas on how I can get around this problem to install SUSE onto my Playstation?
ive just installed dosbox, my favorite dos emulator. in windows, i usually used to play doom and both sound and video worked flawlessly. when i tried running doom in dosbox in ubuntu, the game ran perfectly, but the problem is with the sound. the soundblaster sound effects stutter and are not even working at times. the soundblaster based music doesnt even work! i either blame pulse-audio or the defaut config settings.

This issue is very important to me, i would -really- like to get the sound back on this applet.it's a java runtime environment applet, running in embedded in firefox. Somehow, the systems isn't detecting it as a application outputting sound.
i tried uninstalling the sound manager application via synaptic, selected the 'completely remove' option, and wound up uninstalling essentially the entire OS last weekend. i'd like to not repeat that mishap, as i lost all my data.

I have a Dell OptiPlex GX1 (CPU: Pentium II, 500Mhz). It's very old, and a while ago I installed an old version of Ubuntu on it. While it is switched on and booted up, everything is fine, however the trouble is when it is switched off, or just in BIOS.
The BIOS clock appears to be running at about 60x speed (eg minutes like seconds, hours like minutes). This happens both when switched off and when observing the clock from the BIOS menu. I really don't know what to do about this, and it's causing alot of problems, I've even had it get to the point where the system clock reset itself and would not recognise the OS as valid.
I am using AT91SAM9260 and running Linux 2.6.27 on it. Once i sync the Kernel clock and cmos clock with the reference clock and leave it for 1 day, i see a drift of nearly 8-10 sec. The kernel clock is running faster. How can i correct this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest version of Ubuntu and have been for a while now without issue. However today (actually now yesterday) i made the giant mistake of upgrading my on board HD3150 graphics to a PCIe HD5570 since then my whole life has fallen to bits.
First i noticed some visual noise on the screen. Concluding this was due to incorrect or out of date drivers i attempted to update them from the Hardware Drivers section. This gave the error:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Activating from the command line using jockey gave the same error.
Deciding a reboot might be needed i did so. On power up all ubuntu and recovery modes produced an unskinned GUI with no desktop icons that responded to no mouse or keyboard input.
I was forced to reinstall the operating system.
On reinstalling and losing everything i had installed previously (it's going to take many days to get that all back and working again!), i still have the screen noise, have still been getting the same errors on attempting to activate the drivers, except now i also get this:
the installation of this driver failed.
