I have installed XVidCap Screen Capture. If I record my screen with XVid Cap Screen Capture there is no sound. But if I record with Desktop Recorder there is sound. What is wrong?
View 9 RepliesIm trying to create some screencast videos on Ubuntu. As its a well known fact we dont have a very good screencasting too like Camtasia(only windows) on linux.
After googling extensively I zeroed on Xvidcap for screen capturing and Audacity for audio capture.
According to tutorial [url] first we need to run Xvidcap (do the screen capturing recording first) and then again use Audacity for audio recording .. then mix both video and audio.
I guess this is a pain staking process (running video and audio recording seperately), I thought of running Xvidcap and Audacity simultaneously, if i do this xvicap works perfectly (video capturing happens) but audio capture through audacity does not work.
Note: I even try to run the above tools from seperate terminals/consoles (assuming they are seperate processes)
I even disabled 'audio' in xvidcap and tried to run both at the same time but audacity refuses to work.
I think both the tools are trying to use the same system resources ... and audacity is unable to get hold of the required resources.
Can we run both independently at the same time ?
I just did a clean install of opensuse 11.3. Pretty much everything is working greatHowever, I tried to record a video of a ..... stream and the sound didn't record while using xvidcap. I'm using all default settings
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently converted an amd 64 bit WINdows machine to Lucid 64 bit. Everything has gone well. I had numerous issues with Pulseaudio that I removed it. Sound with Alsa has been great, including system theme sounds. I can record via a mike as well. What I cannot do is to capture sounds coming through the sound card. When I record I am getting empty files. The mixer indicates that there are two capture devices. Here is some data on my audio card.

I'm trying to capture my desktop sound (Video too, but that part's working) but nothing I try works. I've tried various programmes, none of them work. I tried various things I read on different websites, and nothing worked. I noticed /dev/dsp was missing, and put it back by a guide, but that made no difference and disappeared again now I rebooted anyway

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am unable to capture sound from the sound card. I used to be able to do this with ease in SuSE 10.0 and 11.2. Now I have 11.4 and not only do I NOT have access to the sound card's channels (for base, treble, turning the mic on/off, and line in, Analog Capture Boost, etc) but now I can't seem to get at the settings for capturing sound coming from the sound card. I have tried using the Alsa mixer by way of the terminal and went to the Capture section and turned all of the settings all the way up. I didn't see any settings for Capture Boost as was available with 11.2's Alsa mixer GUI. Here's more of my info:

Isn't there ANY GUI sound mixer available that will give me access to all the channels I require? I not only record sound from my sound card, but I also use my mic at times for Skype and I like to be able to turn it off when not in use, rather than unplugging it all the time. I used to be able to do this with 11.2 and 10.0 and I really liked it that way. BTW, the plug for the mic is in the back of the computer and it's not convenient to have to plug/unplug it from there each time. For some apps, it's just a good thing to have all the sound settings done and in place before starting up the app. This I cannot do right now because of the changes to KMix and the Alsa GUI. I really really don't like this at all.
I have a problem with trying to capture sound through the input jacks on my computer. The sound plays through from the inputs to the output, and it's volume is controlled by alsa mixer, but no programs can pick up the stream, including the PulseAudio and Gnome Volume controls.I have tried many of the suggestions to be found in these forums for sound issues, including removing Pulse, configuring the model in alsa-base.conf, and messing with every setting I can find.Here are the outputs from the commands from the troubleshooting guides:

This problem can occur during capture from an analog capture card if CPU utilization exceeds 95 percent. To avoid this problem, configure virtual memory to be "System managed" by following these steps:
1. Choose Start -> Control Panel.
2. Open the System control panel.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Virtual memory box, click Change.
6. Select System managed size, and click Set.
7. Click OK.
I have been searching for an answer through most of the recent posts about sound issues but have not been able to find a solution. I am currently unable to capture sound from the "Line" input on my sound card. I do have sound and is working correctly for all applications and I do have P/A disabled (I'm not a huge fan of the sound quality with P/A enabled). I have checked and re-checked many settings but to no avail have not been able to capture sound. I'm sure I may be missing something or have not done something in order for this to work. I was using openSUSE 11.4 on a different pc and had no problems, unfortunately this is a different pc with a different sound card which is on-board so I am not entirely familiar with it yet.
It is a C-media CMI9880 which shows up as a Intel HDA (ICH6) and appears to be configured correctly.
On my Windoze machine, I use Replay Media Catcher 4 which runs silently in the background and captures any videos (FLV, AVI, MPG, WMV, etc) on any websites that I happen to go to, and saves them to a folder on my hard drive. Right now, if I want to save a video that I'm wathing from Ubuntu, I have to go to /temp, guess which file it is, and copy it after it downloads fully but before it finishes playing, otherwise Firefox deletes it from /temp right away. This is a pain.
Yes, there are screen motion capture utilities in the Ubuntu Software Center, but they're just screen scrapers that result in low quality copies without any audio. I want something that will actually capture the video stream and save it as a file. Even if it doesn't save all videos automatically like RMC4, and I have to right click on the video to Save As, that would be better than copying it from /temp at the precise exact moment.

I'm trying to capture my desktop screen and audio , before I used xvidcap but after upgrading my system I can not use it and also recordmydesktop anymore these APPs hanged when I try to use them.Now I try to use recorditnow via ffmpeg recorder interface , it work properly in recording the desktop but it does not record the sound , so I tried to add below options to its command -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 but it just record sound at the beginning and just for 1 second. First, I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and have installed gtk-recordMyDesktop and it works great. Save a nice clear video with good sound. I can play it right from my system and also from my server but I can not upload it to ...... Maybe I should say I can't upload a good video to ...... It uploads OK but it is un-viewable. Just to make sure it wasn't a Ubuntu problem I tried uploading it from Windows 7. Same thing. The next thing I tried was to convert it to another file format and even before I uploaded it, it was un-viewable. (looked the same as when it was uploaded to .....). I tried the conversion in a Windows program called AVS and I also tried doing it with VLC in Ubuntu. VLC just give me a blank file after converting. I don't think the problem is with ..... but with the file itself. To be honest with you I believe the video is high quality but I don't see how I can put them on ...... Has anyone converted ogv files to another format which looks good and can be uploaded to .....? Has anyone uploaded a ogv file to ..... and have it look good? Does anyone know anything I can try to get a good viewable file up to ...... I tried recording a video with xvidcap and get a good video and it looks good on ..... but I can't get the sound to work with it. All I get is clicking in the video. File is in mpeg format.

Would anyone know why this program is no longer working? It starts up fine but as soon as I press record it freezes and I have to terminate the program. I've tried using some different settings but its always with the same result.Does anyone know what might have changed from 11.3 to 11.4 to cause these issues?p.s. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running the latest version of Ubuntu and have been for a while now without issue. However today (actually now yesterday) i made the giant mistake of upgrading my on board HD3150 graphics to a PCIe HD5570 since then my whole life has fallen to bits.
First i noticed some visual noise on the screen. Concluding this was due to incorrect or out of date drivers i attempted to update them from the Hardware Drivers section. This gave the error:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Activating from the command line using jockey gave the same error.
Deciding a reboot might be needed i did so. On power up all ubuntu and recovery modes produced an unskinned GUI with no desktop icons that responded to no mouse or keyboard input.
I was forced to reinstall the operating system.
On reinstalling and losing everything i had installed previously (it's going to take many days to get that all back and working again!), i still have the screen noise, have still been getting the same errors on attempting to activate the drivers, except now i also get this:
the installation of this driver failed.

I'm trying to make changes to my system to be able to capture sound. I've found the directions to make the tweak permanent (from here: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...ml#post2342948 and here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...evices-877614/) but I need to know about one thing: What does latency_msec=5 mean? Do you need it for your average capturing of sound from your sound card?

I can play videos back through any of the native linux players VLC, Movie player - But I only get black screen with sound - it was working fine and then suddenly - boink? The only program that can play back sound and video now is avidemux

My problem started when I updated Ubuntu 10.10 developer release (or whatever it's called ) to Ubuntu 10.10 Final. When I switch user or lock the screen and log back in, my computer makes no sound. I know it's not muted since I can see that in the volume control. The only way I can fix it is by restarting my computer

Also, If there is a step by step overall troubleshooting guide,I would appreciate its location. This did not freeze under 10.10, but I have changed wifi card (changed driver) and loaded VirtualBox from oracle (not Ubuntu - VB not running during freeze)) - no other changes.
