Have a television card on the computer. Works perfectly well and it would be nice to use the computer as a television program recorder. Buggering about with a DVD recorder is a lot of trouble. How is it possible to do this - surely pretty basic - job? Buggered if I know. It is important to compress the thing into *.avi format or something like that. Otherwise it takes up a huge amount of space.

Just installed Natty and always used Sound Recoder to directly record as mp3 files on previous Ubuntu versions. I forgot what you have to do to get mp3 added to the option list on Sound Recorder. Can someone tell me what has to be done so Sound Recorder will again save all my recordings as mp3 files?

Is there a Sound Recorder like the Total Recorder for Windows? Someone told me to use Audacity, but Audacity recorded the mic input (e.g. the net radio sound through the speakers together with the noise of the room). Maybe I just cannot find the right settings.

What desktop screen recorders are there? I've tried Istanbul and gtk, and they didn't work on my computer. The other problem is they don't output into a format that can be used on other platforms. At the moment, I need to use BSR in the Windows side of my computer.

For some reason, I cannot record video with cheese. I cannot record video and audio on ....., just video. I can record audio on sound recorder. Why can't I get both? I have an e-machines (acer)em-250, 2g ram, 2ghz intel atom processor. Using Moon Os 4 neak (ubuntu 10.10 variant). I have downloaded and installed ffmpeg, and all other codecs. I can also get video on google voice and video, but no audio. Obviously I have a built-in webcam and mic. I've had this problem with every ubuntu distro I've tried since Oct. of 2010. This netbook came with Win. xp, and I had no problems with this issue then. I would just REALLY like to be able to use my webcam and be able to record video and audio.

I'm having a problem using cheese to record video from my webcam. The image is extremely slow to update. Especially when there is lots of movement it sometimes freezes for about a second.
When I use the webcam in Skype it works fine. Does anybody have a clue what might cause this and better yet, how to fix it.

I have an eeepc, and when I try to record video in cheese, it freezes and maybe records 10 seconds of audio with blank video. I know my computer can handle video, as I can skype with reasonable quality.

I downloaded a video recently, and in the description, the person uploading the torrent said the audio lagged a little bit. Well I couldnt find another torrent of it, so I went ahead and downloaded it. The audio is off by like .1-.3 seconds. How can I fix this in VLC? I have V 2.28.1.I went through the repositories and redownloaded VLC, but I cant even get the advanced options open. Ive been using Ubuntu for a few months now. I remember when I had windows I could go into the advanced options and manually change the timing for the audio, but like I said, I cant even get into the advanced options on this one.

I just installed Moonlight but except for the clock that starts running, buffering and connecting to the video server nothing else works. The screen stays grey and there is no sound. I thought it might work when I install Java applet, but also that doesn't fix.

I have 4 video surveillance cameras with built-in microphones. The original VHS based recorder died and so I decided to build a PC based DVR for surveillance recording. Q-See will soon be shipping the QSPD4104 video/audio capture card that can capture both video and audio from 4 camera/microphone combos. (They also have the QSPD4114 with 16 a/v inputs) Is there surveillance software that can record both video and audio from multiple camera/microphone combos?

I've tried using recordmydesktop, Istanbul, XvidCap, and RecordItNow. I can get video, but no audio. I tried them on Ubuntu 10.04. On 10.04, recordmydesktop never saved. It just hung, and then I needed to reboot.I just tried recordmydesktop on Ubuntu 11.04 Gnome with no luck. The video saved, but there was no audio.
