Ubuntu Multimedia :: Silverlight Alternative - Not Moonlight ( Moonlight Requires A Microsoft Media Pack )?
Sep 10, 2010
I like to view some tv-streams of missed programs and other stuff, but more and more Microsofts Silverlight is used. The alternative Moonlight does not work, well..., it probably will if I accept to install a Mircosoft Media Pack (!), and to do so, I have to accept a Microsoft EULA..[URL]..Excepting something from Microsoft... I am not in favour of doing that on my lovely Ubuntu-machine..
I'm trying to watch some of my college's sports online, and they are set-up to use silver-light, but for me it is epic fail. Seems like others are having similar problems, but that is why this is a FAQ, or a FOP, frequently occurring problem. And if I don't post it again, its not treated as a frequent occurring problem. The college page suggests that I use moonlight to watch, but the iced/tea program it recommended broke other programs operation.
if you are familiar with the UFC you know that they show live fights before their PPV's for free on Facebook. well so far the latest version of Moonlight still cant load the player, it gets to 99% then fails. the only possible solution i can assume is causing it, could be that i dont have the Microsoft Media Pack installed for Moonlight. how ever everytime i try to install it, the browser crashes as soon as the install bar reaches 99% does anyone know a different way i could install this pack, or do you know what could be causing this issue an help me fix it?
im using Ubuntu 10.4 Firefox 3.6.16 Moonlight 3.99.0.3
I installed the Moonlight 2.0 Firefox plugin via the .xpi installer. I'm trying to get the Moonlight codec pack installed, but it just isn't working. I agree to the EULA and it seems to download the pack, but every time it says that it cannot verify the downloaded binary. Sometimes it causes Firefox to crash upon download completion. I've tried searching on Google, but I've had no luck.
I just installed Moonlight but except for the clock that starts running, buffering and connecting to the video server nothing else works. The screen stays grey and there is no sound. I thought it might work when I install Java applet, but also that doesn't fix.
My notebook is i386 and I have moonlight 2.99 i586,with ubuntuwintv I can see various programs but not RAI uno, Rai due, Rai tre, they have silverlight 3. Maybe I need to get quicker my notebook. Is there a software to quick it?
I have moonlight installed through the regular repository and know it works as a plugin in Firefox, but I prefer using Epiphany. How can I get Moonlight to work in Epiphany? Using the regular Webkit version of Epiphany on Lucid Beta.
Has anyone managed to get the moonlight extension which enables one to watch Sky TV working in slackware? I have the extensions for firefox and chrome but all I get is a blank screen.
I like to watch NASA TV - [URL].., however when I go there Ubuntu says I need the Microsoft Media Server Protocol plugin and it offers to search for it. The search finds no acceptable plugin. I have tried this in Firefox and Google Chrome.
Got to say first off, I have LOVED the 10.10 release, absolutely adore it. Only problem that I have noticed thus far, is that when I use any of the non standard buttons, it causes my left clicking to stop working.
It's not a big deal but something that does come in handy every once in a while =/
this never seems to happen on my main admin account, but on the second user account sometime after i log in sound stops working. ive checked the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solutions Guide and my sound chip shows(onboard). what should i do to try and solve this? also i was wondering if there's and ubuntu equivalent of silverlight?
I currently have a server running Windows Home Server and was wanting to know if Ubuntu Server could do the following requirements I currently enjoy
1. Media Streaming, to multiple devices simultaniously i.e. pc/xbob360/PS3 all at the same time. Possibly re-encoding OTF.
2. Remote Access, not just to the server but linking(so i can rdp to my main rig through the server from any internet location) to other systems on the "Home" Network both Linux and Windows.
3. Drive Pooling with redundancy, I want to be able to add and remove HDD and just have it expand the pool so current folders can just grow, but also have it duplicate or make redundant copies so if a HDD fails it can still be recovered.
4. Backup of machines on the network, either manual or scheduled, of both Linux and Windows machines
5. App sharing would be a plus but not required, so I could run a Linux app from the server seamlessly on my windows pc.
6. Basic file storage and browsable structure from windows machines.
I realise this may be a tall order and I don't expect it to be easy or straight forward in any way, but I really hate WHS, it has the slowest file access speed of any os i have ever seen, and is so buggy its unbelievable.
Ubuntu10.10.i want a media player with all media codecs.it should able to play all formats of videos and audios so please suggest me a media player.(i used km player in windows i want a media player like that)
Playback works fine but its really juddering and not very smooth compared to windows. I have installed all the latest updates, ATI drivers and the restricted codec pack. I am using the standard video player that comes with Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 11 64bit ATI Radeon HD 3870 512mb AMD Athlon X2 6000
Distro: Fedora 12 Package Mgr: Yum Version: ushare 1.1a Other: automatically running as daemon in runlevel (3) Devices: Xbox 360 & Playstation 3
Note: I can access all of my linux server media via my game consoles. I am curious to know who else is utilizing "ushare" or similar software? Does anyone recommend something other than ushare? Anything better than "ushare?" Just curious
I have little problem with gpk servce pack (from gpk-package-extra package). When im trying to make list of my packages in system i have:
Quote:
Can't write the file, no permissions. OK, but when i run gpk service package as root, program freeze, i click create packages list option but application never create this file, status is always on 0%, even after 1 hour. I saw video tutorial, where base are created by normal user i /home - why i can't Console says nothing about this.
I'm trying to get the SKyplayer to work but it needs Silverlight. So, I installed the moonlight plugin. However, when I try to watch live TV, nothing plays. It looks like it's loading but the screen just stays white:
I have just installed 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala on a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E. Everything seems to be working fine out of the box...
I have my camera WORKING. I have tested it through VLC and the video is visible. I have installed Skype, and after setting up the source of the mic and video, SOUND works. Microphone from NX-6000 records sound, I can talk to someone on Skype with no problems.
The only issue i have is that in Skype settings, when I click on the TEST button in the VIDEO menu, the camera blinks, but the screen stays black. When I initiate a conversation, and enable my video, all I see is a white box in the corner, and the same thing shows up on the screen of the person I am speaking with. The sound however works flawlessly.
when I go to software center, it shows the ms core fonts but there is no install button. I have loaded the restricted extras and medibuntu repos. not sure why it is not working. ubuntu version 10.04 btw.
I can hear my echo in the headphone from the microphone. It is annoying when I make VoIP calls using the headset because I can hear my own breathing all the time
I have installed silverlight via software installer but when I try to view catch up tv via channel nine MSN it says that silverlight may not be up to date and it does not show the video. I run Opensuse 11.4 64 bit kde, and I have tried Google Chrome and Firefox.
I've seen several posts about adjusting the brightness on webcams within Ubuntu going through /sys/module/... /parameters/ however, I need directions for the Microsoft LifeCam Cinema specifically. It runs well with Skype but during the day the image is way too bright so I look like a ghost on cam. I'm running with UBUNTU 10.04 LTS *Lucid Lynx* on a DELL D620 laptop.
I wish to play a training video. When I click on the link I get a prompt to open with RealPlayer. Since I do not think I have RealPlayer installed I checked the link and it an .asx file. I guess it is a link for streaming the video. Whatever, which playing software should I install? I am aware of the multimedia tutorial on this site but am not clear on my objective as there are so many player options apparently available. It would help if I knew what I should be using to play these videos.
