using 11.04/Natty, Banshee is 2.0.0-2ubuntu1 from repos.Is there any way to disable gnome-screensaver when Banshee is playing?Looks like this was possible in Banshee 1.x if Banshee was fullscreen, but in Natty with 2.x , appears that screensaver still activates.

View 5 Replies View RelatedBoth Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
Does anyone now if SMplayer is able to disable screensaver when playing video? There is an option to have SMplayer to do so within the settings menubut that does nothing, screensaver is still being activated after 5 min. Anyone managed to have the player do this? I am on KDE4 by the way.Kaffeine does disable screensaver but I do not like the KDE4 Kaffeine.

I use vlc and one writer indicated there was an option in vlc to disable the screensaver when in full screen mode. However, I've checked all over vlc and can't find this option.I'm not interested in creating a switch using Terminal to do this manually. I just want to know if disabling the screensaver can be automatic when in full screen mode - like in Windows

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Lenny for about a year now, but for some reason Xine has suddenly stopped playing mkv files. It plays everything else including flash. I only started using xine because the mkv files for some reason suffer from a lag between the video and audio in mplayer. I tried installing banshee and vlc but neither of them show video. So I was left with only Xine and it worked perfectly then it suddenly stops playing mkv. Is there something I need to install or remove, reconfigure? Do I just delete the Xine config folder in my home-folder? Lenny being what it is I can only install what is on the out-dated Lenny repos trying anything else like the unstable releases simply wants to uninstall my entire system.

NVidia geforce 9600m GS 512mb
RAM 4GB

Before I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10, VLC media player was able to play my .mkv files just fine. Then I upgraded and VLC refused to play them with sound so I switched to Banshee media player. There is an option in VLC to disable subtitles, but I can't do that in Banshee.

I have tried using the gconf-editor to see if I can disable it but don't know if that is the correct way of doing it. I also looked in /etc/xdg/menus and really don't want to miss with that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched to Ubuntu (10.04) after running my system on Centos for years. This mostly due to much quicker startup times. I have a software that runs as a public presentation software on a public "bigscreen" so my Ubuntu runs like a "kiosk" pc that's always on. When i switched to Ubuntu everything worked lika a charm besides the fact that the screen falls in to "sleep"/"powersave" or something.
I think that i have tried everything to prevent this. I use Gnome and i have set all the powersavings features to off. Ive tried turning acpi off and i also turn dpms off at login. Nothing seems to kill the "screen powersaving" feature. As a desperate act i tried to use a software called Coffeine, this software should prevent powersavings. I added Coffeine to autostart to activate for 48h, I need the screen to atleast stay on for 24h.. Does anyone have an ide what cuses this? Dont really want to go back to Centos now... My system basicly looks like this:

There's an OSS screensaver on windows that I love called PixelCity (links:blog post, github). it's pretty cool. and it runs fine on my Ubuntu (Karmic 9.10) with wine.Is there a way I can tell the gnome-screensaver about it so I can use it as one of my screensavers? I'm still fairly new to Gnome and the whole "screensavers as themes" thing is still confusing me.I've found my themesdir and tried to create a .desktop file for it, but obviously I've gotten something wrong as it just doesn't show when I open the screensaver prefs dialog, no error, no message, it's just not there.
Installing the xscreensaver packages added the extra screensavers I was missing, and I'm a pixelcity away from perfection..Of course the perfect solution would be if someone ported the screensaver natively to linux, which shouldn't be too hard as the source is open, it already runs on openGL and tries to confine most windows stuff to a single file. But I don't know C++ or 3D code or win/linux internals so I wouldn't know where to start..
Suse and I can't get the Atlantis screensaver to run. The screen goes black.he other savers run ok. Is there anything I can do to run it?

I'm using Banshee for my music and video collection because it works and looks much better than Rhythmbox in my opinion. The only thing that refuses to work (correctly) is the audiobook-feature. I have all my audiobooks (different formats - m4b, mp3, ...) stored in a special folder. The subfolders have no distinct order, sometimes it is author/title, sometimes author - title/ and some books even are in my audiobooks root-folder. I have selected the audiobook folder in the banshee preferences but no audiobooks are shown in banshee. I tried changing the selected folder, changing the structure of the subfolders, but nothing helped.
The only thing that worked was importing the audiobooks into the music library and take them to the audiobooks-section in banshee using drag&drop. But when I removed them from my music library, they were also removed from the audiobooks section. This can't be the right way, because in that casse the option to select the audiobooks-folder in the preferences would be useless.
What is the right (intended) way to get audiobooks into banshee?
My music is stored on a NAS on my home network.
I am trying to get Banshee to see my MP3's on the NAS. It looks like Banshee only will support local folders.
So, is a sym link (symbolic link) in a local folder be the solution? If so, what's the syntax? I know the basic form is ln -s <dir 1> <dir 2>.
Ubuntu's file browser sees the folder as 'smb://192.168.1.200/volume_1/level1/level2/level3/MP3's'
I haven't had any success trying to create a sym link to the NAS folder.
Or, am I approaching this totally wrong and can Banshee support the NAS without a sym link?

So im not sure exactly what caused this but when playing movies through the xine-ui has stopped keeping my system active causing my monitor to turn off. This started happening about a week ago and I cant remember installing any xine related updates, but was wondering if anyone knows how to make xine keep the system active to prevent this. I could have sworn there was an option for this but I cant seem to find it anymore.
