I've just returned to KDE after a long absence, and am wondering if there is a panel, system tray, or similar applet to disable/enable the screensaver. I know I can go into system settings, but what I'm after is something that's one click. It's for when I'm watching stuff like iplayer.
View 3 RepliesI dont use Network Manager to connect, but the nm-applet wireless icon wont go out of the system tray. Ive tried to do it through the GUI by unchecking Network Manager in the startup applications: didnt work. I tried to do it by editing the .desktop files in /.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart: didnt work. I deleted all the .desktop files: didnt work. I can get rid of it by killing nm-applet, but then it comes back next time I log in. Is there any way to get rid of this stupid thing outside of purging Network Manager?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded my FC12 to 13 using preupgrade.On booting up into 13 my panel at the top of the screen that normally holds the menus/system tray etc doesn't seem to have initialised. It's just not there.I had a message about "no system tray detected on this system" which I assume is from one of the applications trying to start up in the systray.I've not found anything obvious in the logs, but then I may not be looking in the right places.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgraded to 11.3. Do a operation that active a network node, the Knetworkmananger will active a display on "Task Bar" (see figure 1). And it can't be minimized to "System Tray Panel", just can't be minimized to "Task Bar".
And the network list display pops up without all display some time (see figure 2), it's very boring.
If I kill the Kneworkmananger and restart it again, it will just have a Icon on "System Tray Panel" normally. But if it change to another network node automatically or I change it by clicking the icon, the display on "Task Tar" will appear and can't be resume to "System Tray", just like mentioned above.
I don't know why have this problem, I tried to reinstall the Knetworkmanager, but the problem also exist.
I want to move the system tray stuff (The wifi moniter etc..) to the bottom panel in xubuntu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe volume control in the Gnome panel system tray has disappeared from my wife's Ubuntu 10.04 system with the master volume set to zero.I was able to restore sound via System->Preferences->Sound master volume, but this is not particularly convienent. How do I restore the panel volume control? (the speaker icon on the panel, between the Network arrows and Chat/Mail setup icons).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed new version of Choqok 1.0 Beta3 (0.9.90). It works nice, but the notifications for new posts bothers me. With every timeline refresh, system tray notification window pops up informing me for new posts.
How to disable notifications for Choqok? I cannot find option in Choqok. However, I can disable application notifications in system tray options, but in this case some ugly little window pops on the top of the screen informing me for new posts.
In ~/.xinitrc I have option:xset -dpmsI also read this page about screensavers and found that I didn't install any of those programs for blanking the screen.But after some idle time Fluxbox turns on the blank screen. Why? How to disable it?

Running RHEL5 and because of the environment that we are in we have to disable the users being able to change the screen saver. I have tried using the gconf-editor to see if I can disable it but don't know if that is the correct way of doing it. I also looked in /etc/xdg/menus and really don't want to miss with that.

The feature I would like, though, would be that the icon changes depending on whether the screensaver is on or off. I was going to try and build it, but I couldn't figure out how to change the icon picture for a toolbar launcher with a *sh script and I don't really have enough experience programming in gnome with any language.

I copied the file from my windows install into the System32 folder in .wine and into the folder where the application I am trying to run is, but wine still fails to load it. Is there anything else I need to do to make the dll accessible for wine programs?

sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.

I tried "noacpi nolapic"
I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.
A fresh installation of ubuntu 9.10 stopped my DSL internet connection. sudo pppoeconf solved the problem of net, but NetworkManager applet in panel now not working. it says wired networks, device not managed.

Essentially I would like to have Evolution hidden in the system tray instead of having to re-launch it every ten minutes to check for new messages (or leave it open and clutter the taskbar).
I thought I was removing the chat status piece of the indicator applet (I know what it is now, didn't then), but I accidentally removed the whole thing. Now when I figured out how to put it back on the panel, I can't get it back to where it was (which was to the RIGHT of the system date/time applet). How can I do this as well as move the indicator applet that has the volume control in it?

what file do you set the defaults in? I want to set all my users to use a blank screensaver and a time out of 20min. password required. Have been looking all over the place for a valid config file I can edit and the syntax for it. I should also mention I want these to be default for all user that CANNOT be changed except by root. Red Hat running gnome in my case.

Is there anyway to hide that option for the trash? I know I have done this several times before and now its happening alto with the project I am working on. It would be nice if I could disable that option.

Anyways, one of them is the one with the vertical slider and the other one is the one with the horizontal slider. I want to get rid of the one with the vertical slider. How do I do this? (The one with the vertical slider is in the part where the "tray-ed" programs go). When I use my keyboard volume up and volume down buttons, I notice that the two controls respond APPROXIMATELY the same where one is slightly ahead of the other. If more information is needed, just ask.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. I need to find the icon image files used by the Gnome panel tray apps, specifically, Banshee (see attached screenshot). It's not in /usr/share/pixmaps, as that banshee icon is used for the panflute launch button, not the Banshee tray icon. I imagine it would be where all the other tray icons are (volume, battery, etc). I'm looking for it so I can try editing it to fix the white background.

There is an option to have SMplayer to do so within the settings menubut that does nothing, screensaver is still being activated after 5 min. Anyone managed to have the player do this? I am on KDE4 by the way.Kaffeine does disable screensaver but I do not like the KDE4 Kaffeine.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi would like to know if there are any good ways to disable and then reenable (the latter is key!) the screensaver so that it doesn't start when i'm watching movies with xine or when i'm watching flash things online like through hulu, videos, or so on. it's relatively simple to have a script run that will turn off the screensaver before starting a certain executable. but what about turning it back on again when the executable closes? and is there any way to detect that flash is running inside a browser window and then disable that temporarily?
