I recently switched to using xfce. Since then, every time i'm watching a video the screensaver turns on after 10 minutes. Is it possible to disable this behavior when playing a video, but still have the screensaverctivate when i'm not doing anything?I'm starting to get really annoyed, as i don't have a tv, i use my pc for everything.I don't know if it matters, but i'm using mplayer
View 3 RepliesAll of a sudden the screensaver starts when I play movies in kaffeine. I noticed this yesterday. It didn't do that before. I don't know what I've done to make this happen. I'm using Kaffeine v. 1.0-svn3 on a 64 bit OpenSUSE 11.3. My screensaver is kometen4 from kde-look.org.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBecause Ubuntu 11.04 is a bit heavy for the capabilities of my older desktop hardware, I am in the process of switching over to Xubuntu 11.04 going forward. I found the "sleep inhibit applet" very useful when I was using the Gnome DE, and was searching for a replacement in XFCE that doesn't require installing a bunch of Gnome libraries. I found a description of "caffeine" as a utility that seems to be what I'm looking for, but when I added the caffeine ppa to my repositories, and select it for installation in Synaptic, it wants to add a long list of Gnome-related components. Is there any quick way to temporarily disable the screensaver and power management functions in XCFE that doesn't depend on Gnome?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have and avi file and an ac3 file that contains an alternate audio stream. I run mplayer like: mplayer -audiofile foo.ac3 bar.avi
mplayer takes the audio stream from the ac3 file as expected, but when I try to scroll the video using arrows or pgup/pgdown keys, the audio gets desynced: mplayer just starts playing the audio stream from the beginning. Do I have to pass any additional command line arguments in order to make it scroll properly without desyncing audio?
the movie i downloaded plays for only 19 sec and stops saying you will be redirected to microsoft download page. the file is 700 Mb. i installed w32 codecs after searching through many threads but still my vlc doesnt play the file.

While playing, the screen suddenly freezes, nothing moves. The sound seem to work but very very slow (eg. the normal sound is A B C D ... now the sound becomes AAAAAAAAA BBBBBBB CCCCCCCCC DDDDDDDD .....................). The mouse don't response but the keyboard seem to response: I try press '~' key, then press 'q' and 'tab', finally 'enter', the sound stops, the mouse cursor appears (so I think I quitted UT) but the screen don't change (still game screen).
So I try "Ctrl + Alt + Backspace" to execute "xfce4-session-logout --halt" (this shortcut is set by me. Default there is not this shortcut. I try to set a shortcut to restart X server but find no way. So I set it to this command, this seem to log out rather than to restart the X server.). The screen become clear (black) and the log in screen mouse cursor appears (the mouse cursors on login screen and on desktop are different), but nothing more displays. As you know, on login screen there is a panel at the bottom with a button on the right. When we click this button, it shows a popup menu from that we can restart or shutdown. So I try to click on the bottom right of the screen on position of this button, then click on above it a little, the system shuts down (or restarts) with the splash screen (the blue screen with the Fedora logo) => the login screen still works but not displays
What is my problem, how can I fix it?
I am using opensuse 11.2 Gnome. Screensaver is spoiling video streaming and I have to manually stop it every time. There are options in media players to stop screensaver but when I watch videos online it seems like there is no global option to stop it. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

I don't really care what video format the screensaver creator supports because I can always transcode the video with ffmpeg or mencoder. I also, don't care if the creator uses proprietary formats such as mpeg, mpeg4, avi, etc. I do however want the program to create an installable screensaver.

Recently, I noticed that I can no longer see any video when playing m4v files (audio is OK). These files worked fine until recently, and the problem persists across mplayer, totem, banshee and even firefox.
I am running Natty with the 2.6.39 kernel.
When I click on 'Places' / 'Music' or 'Video' one specific song or movie always automatically starts up without giving me a chance to select which music or movie I want to hear/watch.
My temporary workaround is 'Computer' then to Music / Video which will then take me to Music/Video and allow me to select normally.
Where is the simple solution ? ...preferably without lines of code

When i try to play HD (even with 720p) video the CPU load is almost 100%. I'm using vlc player and the movie is barely watchable. If i switch to Movie Player, the CPU load is slightly decreased, but after 2-3 minutes the audio goes out of sync, so no solution there. I have an nvidia 8600gt graphics card and the proper driver installed, every compiz effect works flawlessly without the slightest increase in CPU load and a dual core 2,1 GHz AMD processor. It shouldn't be a hardware issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu 10.04 for about a month and generally the graphics work fine (I have a Radeon 2600 XT graphics card and have installed Catalyst Control Centre 10.7).3D games such as Nexuiz work fine and I can generally play different types of video but when I try to play HD video it gets pretty jerky. The same files play fine in windows so I'm guessing it's a software/driver issue. I've read various related posts to this and after typing 'top' into the terminal, I can see that playing the video takes most of the CPU processing resource up, which I as I understand, suggests that most of the work is not being offloaded to the GPU.

The video DVD successfully burns, and plays in my computer, but does not play in any of the DVD players in the house. I used to user "ConvertXToDVD" when I was on Windows, but am trying to find a free/open source alternative on ubuntu. I am using all default options. I have looked in the settings for both programs, and I fail to see the problem here. Even the ISO created from devede seems to match up to the Video DVD (that works in the players) I had burned with ConvertXToDVD.
In Devede I have it so that the menu is disabled and it automatically plays the first title. Apparently this is not good enough.. I thought this program was supposed to be easy to use? What am I doing wrong here? I am using the same DVD-R I have used before on my Windows machine to great success. I am getting frustrated as I have went through 2 DVDs,
I have a Asus UX30 with an Intel GMA 4500MHD laptop with ubuntu, working with no problems except that when I'm watching some video it often freezes. whenever i try to record a video with gtk screen recorder it starts lagging and when the video is over and you wanna watch it there is a major sound and video lag and nothing is as it should be (could the desktop effects be the issue)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRan preupgrade for F11 to F12. Everything ok there it seemed. Upon reboot, it started booting the kernel, then the video disappeared, no signal to monitor. After about 15min, I just rebooted and managed to get make to Fedora 11.
Considering just going with DVD upgrade. I googled preupgrade no video and here as well, and several unrelated things seemed to come up.
