I have several files that are from an Ipod that I still have and has worked great with Banshee up until now. All of the sudden, Banshee will not play m4p files. I have Ubuntu Restricted Extras installed, and when I try to play them with Movie Player, it says that it cannot play an encrypted file stream.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been using Lenny for about a year now, but for some reason Xine has suddenly stopped playing mkv files. It plays everything else including flash. I only started using xine because the mkv files for some reason suffer from a lag between the video and audio in mplayer. I tried installing banshee and vlc but neither of them show video. So I was left with only Xine and it worked perfectly then it suddenly stops playing mkv. Is there something I need to install or remove, reconfigure? Do I just delete the Xine config folder in my home-folder? Lenny being what it is I can only install what is on the out-dated Lenny repos trying anything else like the unstable releases simply wants to uninstall my entire system.
My machine specs are:
Acer Aspire 8930
Intel Centrino 2
NVidia geforce 9600m GS 512mb
RAM 4GB
I have the proprietary nVidia graphics drivers installed. So it is powerful enough.
Both Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
How do I get it to play MP4 and WMV files. Currently it only plays AVI. I haven't done anything to the setup except perhaps update automatically. It has been working well till the last week.
I click on the file and it does not load. No error messages. I am using the XV output driver.
Been using openSUSE 11.4 64-bit for a couple of months now, things seem to run very smoothly, and I'm very pleased with it. But sometimes things just seem to stop working as intended although this probably have nothing to do with openSUSE and is most likely a bug in Banshee.Well, the title says all about the problem really, and it's not a big issue since I most certainly can use another program to rip my cds.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am tired of constant problems with fedora and simple tasks that should cause no problems, I have had fedora installed for a few days now and the sound was good, I recently plugged in my pc speakers via audio jack it worked fine, then I retrun to find no should being played anywhere while everything is up, I even do the commands alsamixer -D hw:0 and all sliders where up, wtf is wrong with this BS, I unplug my speakers, still no sound, kaput, it just stops playing, I never had so many complications running an OS
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a successful upgrade to lucid, everything was going GREAT (including FINALLY having surround output) until now all of the sudden music files won't play... When I double-click a file, Totem opens automatically, and it says it's playing,but there's no sound and the bar does not move across at the bottom. In VLC, the bar moves like it's playing, but there is still no sound. Doesn't work when I hover the cursor over a file, either. In previous versions of Ubuntu, a simple reboot would fix this, but that doesn't work with Lucid... Online streaming works fine.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm new to posting around here, but have used this forum for years and always have found a solution via search, but this time I couldn't find anyone with quite the same problem.
I've been using 8.04 on an old laptop for quite a while and have been able to watch encrypted DVDs, as I have installed all the proper drivers.
But suddenly, every time I insert an encrypted DVD, it will mount and I can see the name of it and browse the files, but neither MPlayer nor VLC will play it.
I know the drive works, because if I boot into XP I can watch them there.
I already tried reinstalling the drivers and am out of ideas.
I don't know why but suddenly Firefox has stopped playing any of the Vimeowebsite videos. I am assuming it has to do with some recent software update (no clue which one.)First of all I want to see if anyone else is having this problem. If it's just me then I will have to solve it the local level although I don't have a clue where to start with this one.I would be grateful to anyone who has also seen this to verify that its not just my system getting funky.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Sansa mini-clip MP3 player. Now that I am using Ubuntu I wanted to totally redo my play lists. So using the Sansa menu, I formatted the MP3 player to start fresh. Then I opened Rythmbox and was going to import my MP3 files from my hard drive. Only problem is all of my MP3 files are grayed out on the import files menu. Then I installed Banshee and tried to import the MP3 files and they are grayed out in that program too.
why my MP3 files won't import into Rythmbox or Banshee?
Trying to sync a bunch of files to a 5.5-gen iPod with Banshee 1.6, on Lucid. I moved the files from my friend's computer to my Sansa View via UMS transfer; just dragged and dropped. The file lengths are correct on my player. My friend used Banshee to sync the same files, from the same computer, to his iPod. In Banshee and on his iPod, the files are all shorter. The files are supposed to be approximately 30 minutes each. In Totem on my friend's computer, and on my Sansa, the first file is 33:11. In Banshee and on his iPod, it's about 17:00. Some files have been cut down to two minutes long. This has happened across multiple albums in multiple folders. Clearly the problem is Banshee, since Totem recognizes the appropriate file length.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

plain and simple how do I watch my old .amv videos. Whenever I try I get this error.

Will provide additional information if needed. Issue: Despite all the legwork I've been doing, I cannot play .mkv and .mp4 files. So far I've tried using VLC player, installing the w32codecs using medibuntu, installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras package, and did some gstreamer stuff. Nothing has worked so far. The best I've gotten is a blank screen with the audio. On a not so serious note, I have also been having trouble getting my webcam to work. I installed cheese, but it too only gives me a blank screen. In spite of having a blank screen, the pictures I take with it show up in the file. It's a rather vexing matter, but not as serious as the above one.
First of all, I'm new in Banshee and linux. When I import my music files from system files into Banshee playlist and play this track, the file is recognized as "unreadable" and mark with the "x" sign. There is no problem to import and play the music from the original cd's. I have no idea what is wrong. I'm using opensuse 11.2.

I installed the required plugins and packages to get mp3 playback to work, but I cant seem to find a way to get it to play any mp4 files. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but a lot of my music is in that format and I cant get any of it to play.

I have mediatomb i turn my ps3 on search for server pick it up I can play all of my .avi files fine but when i go into audio > All audio it just says there are no titles so that the mp3 files show up and i can play them. And as well why does mediatomb not work when the terminal is not open. I open terminal type mediatomb then when i close it says disconnected from media server.

But when I drag n drop the same file to the Smplayer window playback starts without any issues.
AVI movie files aren't playing well in Ubuntu. I get audio but the screen stays black, there's no picture. I downloaded VLC player and mplayer and neither of them work. Same thing: Black screen with audio. Is there a codec pack out there that I should download or something?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that my computer plays MTS videos very bad (the videos get freeze, etc) in Ubuntu 11.04. I tested many players, but I didn't get good performance during the playback in any of them.
However, in the same computer, I use K-Lite Codec Pack in Windows XP and MTS videos are fine!
Is there any way to play MTS videos in Ubuntu very well?
Performance is excellent in both operating systems (XP and Ubuntu 11.04).
This was my favorite media player because it played all the files I could throw at it. However, in Fedora 12 it fails to run my .avi or .mkv files. I may have forgotten something, like some driver or codec, but movie player plays them well. I have VLC in Mac and it plays the files without question. Am I doing something wrong?
