Ubuntu Multimedia :: Get Music Which Was Originally On ITunes Into Banshee
Aug 25, 2011I am trying to get music which was originally on iTunes into banshee, such that I can transfer "ownership" from a Mac onto Ubuntu, and still sync with my iPhone 3GS. Every piece of this music came from CDs which I still own and have collected since CDs were something most people hadn't heard of, but I seriously do not want to sit there and scan in hundreds of CDs again when I already have them in digital form.
I've tried several things, including dragging and dropping from a USB stick. So I've been getting duplicates, and in the process I deleted an album in order to start over. Now I can't get that album back no matter what. It's like it's black listed or something. I can try to load it from the USB stick, I can copy the containing folder from the USB stick to some place on my hard drive, anything. It knows I deleted it once upon a time and it refuses to touch it.
Ubuntu :: Banshee Has Stopped Playing M4p Files?
Oct 11, 2010I have several files that are from an Ipod that I still have and has worked great with Banshee up until now. All of the sudden, Banshee will not play m4p files. I have Ubuntu Restricted Extras installed, and when I try to play them with Movie Player, it says that it cannot play an encrypted file stream.

May 4, 2011using 11.04/Natty, Banshee is 2.0.0-2ubuntu1 from repos.Is there any way to disable gnome-screensaver when Banshee is playing?Looks like this was possible in Banshee 1.x if Banshee was fullscreen, but in Natty with 2.x , appears that screensaver still activates.

Jan 20, 2011Both Banshee and Rhythmbox crash, leaving a segmentation fault in the terminal, after playing a song for less than a second. I do manage to get some sound before they crash. This problem seems to have begun only a couple of days ago after doing an update. Unfortunately I was playing playing around with moving my music collection to an NFS share around the same time as the update so I can't be sure which action it was that broke music playback.
Because both Banshee and Rhythymbox are affected and showing identical behaviour I think the problem is gstreamer. Reinstalling everything I could find in synaptic related to gstreamer had no effect.
Some general information:
- My music collection is in FLAC but other formats seem to cause the same behaviour.
- Music from an NFS share or my external USB drive causes the same behaviour
- VLC plays music from my NFS share without any problems
- Removing ubuntu-one (as suggested in some posts) did not help
- I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 x86
I've had no luck searching the interwebs for help thus far. Does anyone have any ideas?
Ubuntu :: Banshee Cannot Read ITunes Database
Apr 14, 2010This may come across as a bit of an isolated and complex problem, but I haven't been able to get my iPod Nano 5th Generation to have any sort of compatibility with any iPod management programs (except with using Nautilus I guess). This includes gtkpod, Banshee and Rhythmbox.With Rythmbox, my iPod shows up in the pane, but I cannot interact in anyway except ejecting it. There aren't any msgbox errors.Banshee cannot read the iTunes database or something and insists that I rebuild the database on the ipod so I can use it with banshee. I did and gained full access to Banshee's iPod management with all the features it carries. I moved my music library on to the ipod but the thing states that I have zero songs whilst banshee states otherwise.
iTunes on my Windows PC will show that I have x number of GB of "other" information after using Banshee to move music. It seems that it is transferring data sufficiently but is not recognising it as "audio" gtkpod wont let me manage the iPod before or after Banshee's tampering.
Fedora :: DAAP Sharing Between Itunes 9 And Banshee
Jan 2, 2010Has anyone gotten DAAP sharing to work between Itunes 9 and Banshee? I have a Windows Vista, Mac OS X, and Fedora 12 box setup on my network. Both Mac and Visa have itunes 9 running on them, and when opening Banshee the Itunes Library shows under shared music but when I select it; I get the below error:
Unable to connect to music share
* The provided login credentials are invalid (I removed the share password, same issue)
*The login process was canceled
*Too many users are connected (not the case)
* The music is hosted by itunes 7 (hosted by itunes 9)
Is the Banshee DAAP plugin supported with Itunes 9? Are there any work arounds?

Nov 10, 2010Trying to sync a bunch of files to a 5.5-gen iPod with Banshee 1.6, on Lucid. I moved the files from my friend's computer to my Sansa View via UMS transfer; just dragged and dropped. The file lengths are correct on my player. My friend used Banshee to sync the same files, from the same computer, to his iPod. In Banshee and on his iPod, the files are all shorter. The files are supposed to be approximately 30 minutes each. In Totem on my friend's computer, and on my Sansa, the first file is 33:11. In Banshee and on his iPod, it's about 17:00. Some files have been cut down to two minutes long. This has happened across multiple albums in multiple folders. Clearly the problem is Banshee, since Totem recognizes the appropriate file length.

When I import my music files from system files into Banshee playlist and play this track, the file is recognized as "unreadable" and mark with the "x" sign. Any ideas? Also I'm on 11.2 latest updates.

Jul 9, 2011I've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

Feb 23, 2010I know this has been talked about a lot but im not quite understanding how to handle it. I have mediatomb i turn my ps3 on search for server pick it up I can play all of my .avi files fine but when i go into audio > All audio it just says there are no titles so that the mp3 files show up and i can play them. And as well why does mediatomb not work when the terminal is not open. I open terminal type mediatomb then when i close it says disconnected from media server.

Jun 23, 2011My problem is that my computer plays MTS videos very bad (the videos get freeze, etc) in Ubuntu 11.04. I tested many players, but I didn't get good performance during the playback in any of them.
However, in the same computer, I use K-Lite Codec Pack in Windows XP and MTS videos are fine!
Is there any way to play MTS videos in Ubuntu very well?
Performance is excellent in both operating systems (XP and Ubuntu 11.04).
Debian Configuration :: No Video In VLC / Banshee - Xine Not Playing MKV
Sep 2, 2010I have been using Lenny for about a year now, but for some reason Xine has suddenly stopped playing mkv files. It plays everything else including flash. I only started using xine because the mkv files for some reason suffer from a lag between the video and audio in mplayer. I tried installing banshee and vlc but neither of them show video. So I was left with only Xine and it worked perfectly then it suddenly stops playing mkv. Is there something I need to install or remove, reconfigure? Do I just delete the Xine config folder in my home-folder? Lenny being what it is I can only install what is on the out-dated Lenny repos trying anything else like the unstable releases simply wants to uninstall my entire system.
My machine specs are:
Acer Aspire 8930
Intel Centrino 2
NVidia geforce 9600m GS 512mb
RAM 4GB
I have the proprietary nVidia graphics drivers installed. So it is powerful enough.

Sep 25, 2010but after a forum search I only found one similar thread, but seemingly the issue was not totally solved. I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet
