All of a sudden the screensaver starts when I play movies in kaffeine. I noticed this yesterday. It didn't do that before. I don't know what I've done to make this happen. I'm using Kaffeine v. 1.0-svn3 on a 64 bit OpenSUSE 11.3. My screensaver is kometen4 from kde-look.org.

I just installed F15 new, and I wonder what packages do I need to install to play movies with restricted codecs? I thought I have everything what I installed last time with F14 but I can't play my movies in Kaffeine. I have rmpfusion and the packages gstreamer-plugins-bad-free gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-ugly, and all other gstreamer-* packages.

I just would like to suggest a solution (well, most likely a workaround) for .rmvb Real Player movies which don't work well on Kaffeine, without need to install other players or applications.I first saw many people had similar problems as me: Real Player movies just played sound but not video, or viceversa. I first tried installing w32 codecs, but this seems to be the good solution for 32 bit users, I use 11.3 x64 and didn't work for me. Seems to be a Medibuntu repository, and I looked for a .tar file, since I was looking for a "w64" version of the codecs. I downloaded the latest .tar.gz file found on the page, the 20071007 one and uncompressed it. It has some codec files and a Readme which tells where to put the files. After that done, without rebooting Suse, I tried again to play the movie, and Kaffeine finally played it well, although now it pops a message saying Kaffeine closed unproperly whenever I close it after having played a .rmvb movie. I think that can be solved by updating Kaffeine, but haven't tried that yet
I recently switched to using xfce. Since then, every time i'm watching a video the screensaver turns on after 10 minutes. Is it possible to disable this behavior when playing a video, but still have the screensaverctivate when i'm not doing anything?I'm starting to get really annoyed, as i don't have a tv, i use my pc for everything.I don't know if it matters, but i'm using mplayer
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed openSuse 11.2 (64bit), and I installed the avi codecs as described in Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE-Community with the 1-click installation for KDE. But kaffeine and xine are crashing when I try to play avi files.One thing I found out is that all packages are 64 bit packages only the w32codec-all version is 20071007-0.pm.1.1-i586 and I don't get offered a _64 package. Is this OK? What else could be the problem

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed 11.4 64bit and duly followed the sticky guide for getting the required multimedia files installed. I find I have a problem with playing audio cd's the only program which will play an audio cd is Kaffeine but it does not play properly - it plays a few bars then silence, plays a few bars then silence and I can find no way of getting it to play without interruption. There are no sound problems with Kaffene when using it to play digital tv or dvd films. I have tried KsCD, Amarok, Mplayer, SMPlayer, and GNOME MPlayer none of which can I get to play a CD. With Amarok there does not appear to be a setting to play a CD as soon as it is put in the drive it would appear that you have to generate a playlist first, I can show the list of tunes on the CD but that's a far as it goes they will not add to a playlist or play.
Have just found the player Clementine which apparently is based on Amarok. Although not providing a direct play facility I was able to load the cd to the playlist then play the tunes. This may be a clue to my problems in that I noticed that it had to mount the player first. Is there a setting for auto mounting?Ideally I would like to put an audio cd in my player and have it play automatically without me having to do anything. Is this facility available in 11.4 and if so which program do I need to install?
I cannot play DivX Movies with my Totem-Plugin in Firefox. But it only doesn't work with my User-Account. When I log in as root, it works without a problem. I'm assuming that that the problem lies somewhere in a config file that is different between my user account and my root account. However I'm pretty new to Linux so I don't know where to search.

this problem is quiet enoying, so i hope that somebody can help me tracking down this problem and find a solution. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same
I can't get my sisters Ubuntu to play some movies off DVD. I google searched for how to play dvds on ubuntu, and a site says basically "just install Totem" and the dvdlib3 (it already has dvdlib4 installed) so I went ahead and installed totem.I launched totem, but there is no option for opening a DVD, there's only Open File. which would mean I'd have to open the vob files, which are very confusing to navigate.
I tried VLC and VLC couldn't run it, so I tried VLC(Windows32 under Wine) and although it worked in the past, it couldn't read the movie either(the movie is Casino Royale and I watched it just fine on my Windows machineis there an easy method to just install some proprietary software that can play movies with a single click? like with the package manager perhaps? I couldn't figure anything out. It seems like Ubuntu should come pre-ready for DVDs and I don't understand why it isn't.
using 11.04/Natty, Banshee is 2.0.0-2ubuntu1 from repos.Is there any way to disable gnome-screensaver when Banshee is playing?Looks like this was possible in Banshee 1.x if Banshee was fullscreen, but in Natty with 2.x , appears that screensaver still activates.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Lucid on an Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop. It has an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A DVD-RAM writer. I am having trouble in playing video/movies on DVD.
When I am inserting a movie DVD, the drive is working (i.e. is busy) continuously but the disc is not being recognized and mounted. Disc Utility is showing "No Media Detected".
The same DVD discs are playing OK in my desktop (running Hardy) and on another laptop (running Lucid).
However, that Audio and data CDs are playing/reading OK in the same drive. Even blank DVDs are being recognized and mounted OK.
i would like to know if there are any good ways to disable and then reenable (the latter is key!) the screensaver so that it doesn't start when i'm watching movies with xine or when i'm watching flash things online like through hulu, videos, or so on. it's relatively simple to have a script run that will turn off the screensaver before starting a certain executable. but what about turning it back on again when the executable closes? and is there any way to detect that flash is running inside a browser window and then disable that temporarily?

It seems I can play at least an mpeg movie, and mp3. But I find the quality of sound of the mp3 in kaffeine very poor. Yes, it plays, but some mp3's are struggling the first 10 seconds or so,, eg, Shivers - Armin van Buuren. When I play the same mp3 in xmms, it plays like a charm. That's not what I want, I want an all-round multimedia player. Xine does the job very well,, like xmms,, and plays also the mpeg, but unfortunately, xine shows an error message about a segmentation fault, upon exiting xine. Any hint to play mp3 files in kaffeine like xmms does?
I've already went thorough "Check your multimedia problem in ten steps" and "Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide", but still no luck. When I try to play video Kaffeine just throw out big red cross and then nothing palys.

After wrestling with Kaffeine on openSUSE 11.2, I thought I had solve the issue I had with it and I got a new error as described below:
Original Issue: Kaffeine will not play a dvd. Error: Cannot find input plugin for MRL
Then: error no longer appeared, but I got a new error.
New error: "Cannot find demux plugin for MRL "dvd:///dev/sr0""
Of course, I could install Demux, but what is this plugin business? Any ideas? Please, if possible include a little information about what MRL refers to.
I am just starting with Opensuse , been on Ubuntu for a few years . I am getting Kaffeine to work with my HVR 1600 . I had to add the firmware to /lib/firmware , then install the xine and ffmpeg files . Now tv scans channels and plays . Actually it plays great . I had skipping problems in Ubuntu with Me-tv , not so with Kaffeine .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of 11.3 and everything went good but i have a problem. There is no sound when i try to watch a movie in VLC, Kaffeine, SMPlayer and xine. But when i open the movie (.avi format) with Dragon player it plays as it should be. I have sound when i test the output in KDE system settings and i listen to music as i write this message. I tried with Xine and GStreamer output but the problem stays. I have all the multimedia codecs that are needed installed. Here is my repo list:

Seems this is one of very view disadvantages of a case sensitive OS. Has anyone an idea how I could tell vlc or kaffeine(xine) how to deal with that? I don't want to burn all my dvd's again with capitalised entries.
How to configure Kaffeine to use jack. After I start jack with:
$ jackd -v -d alsa
There is no audio coming from Kaffeine.
When PPS movies are played, I can't hear any sound. What must I do to correct this problem? I am using Ubuntu 11.04 on a netbook.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed 11.2. I am having some sound woes. Vlc plays CDs and DVDs but Kaffeine won't. KsCD won't play CDs. When I try to use Kaffeine to play a CD I get:
Cannot find input plugin for MRL [cdda:/]
Opening kaffeine in the terminal gives:

When I try to use Kaffeine to play a DVD I get:

Do I have to add anything to /etc/fstab? /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd are pointing to /dev/sr0, but these apps are not seeing the device.

I'm using Kaffeine 1.0-svn3 from Packman repo on openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.5. In Kaffeine, I can not find the menu where I can choose the subtitles. (I want to watch an avi-file with a separate subtitle-file in srt format). With openSuse 11.0, KDE 3.5.8. and an older version of Kaffeine, there was a possibility to select subtitle files (srt).

that's a bit of a strange problem, that somehow crept into my system. It used to work fine.Here is the problem as far as I can identify it. When I try to play certain video files with mplayer, there is no sound. As far as I can tell, it is only an issue with ac3 and dts sound tracks (using the ffmpeg decoder).Mplayer says:

My PPC iMac G3, 600 MHz, 768 MB ram machine (blue box) machine has 16 MB video ram and 256 MB backside L2 cache. When I insert a music CD, it doesn't seem to recognize it. Nor does an icon appear on the screen indicating that I loaded a disk. When I insert a movie, Lucid waits a moment, spins the disk, then ejects it after about 60 sec. Data disks act similarly, but no ejection. Disk spins momentarily, no icon appears on desktop, disk does not eject, No further action.

Trying to play dvd that worked under 11.1 and original dvd version of openSUSE 11.2. It failed after a update.
Not sure which one since I do not normally play dvd movies on my system.
Checked all multimedia rpms and they are all from packman except kaffeine which is KDE4 version.
