I have a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu 9.04. When I boot into XP the volume is fine, but when I boot into Ubuntu the output volume is half what it is in XP. I have to crank my stereo way up to get it to a decent volume. Is there any way to boost the output volume in Ubuntu?

1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.
2. Problem: The X server is freezing iregulary when I connect the headset and disconnect it, Magic SysRq works. I checked Xorg.0.log and found out that it recognizes the usb headset as keyboard:

Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

I have a Fedora 15/Ubuntu 11.04 dual boot. In Fedora, I just created a new logical volume. How do I ensure that anything I put in it - all files and folders - will be accessible in Ubuntu? II also want to be able to add files and folders in Ubuntu and then read and write them in Fedora...

I am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?

The Gnome GUI volume control is fine in normal circumstances but to set it accurately requires a bit too much fiddling, IMO - now if someone were to adjust the programming so a dB readout accompanies slider movement, rather than as a pop-up after adjusting the slider, 'twould be more ergonomic, IMO.
Every time I boot into my laptop, there is no sound. Going to alsamixer in a terminal shows that the "Speaker" volume is constantly getting reset to 0, and bringing it back up fixes the problem. How can I get Alsa to remember to keep the speaker volume above 0?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got my xubuntu 10.10 install just about perfect on a little acer aspire d250, apart from a small sound useability issue: In the interests of simplicity and resource usage I removed pulseaudio. After a bit of fiddling I got it so that my USB soundcard (ProDac) is recognized and automatically set as the default soundcard when plugged in. Any sound applications automatically use the USB sound if it present, no need to around with pulse. The only problem is that my netbook's volume control keys still only control the master volume of the inbuilt soundcard, and have no effect on the usb sound. Does anyone know of a way to change which sound device these keys actually effect? I'd like to write a little script so that when the usb device is detected the keys are remapped.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an old DFI KT600AL motherboard based system using the onboard VIA 3058 AC97 audio (because it supports front panel audio connections and none of the add-in PCI soundcards I have do). I have an old Gateway/STB TVPCI TV tuner card (mainly wanted the FM radio part to work) hooked up to the cd audio connector on the motherboard because the digital audio over the pci bus apparently isn't supported for this card (neither is the onboard analog mixer on the tv tuner card, I had to hack a CD-ROM audio cable and solder it to the audio outputs of the tv tuner module on the TV tuner card). When I use the master channel as the master channel (selected in Kmix) then as one would expect it affects the output volume of all other audio playing on the system except that which is being handled by the PCM channel. On Windows the PCM channel was also affected by the "Volume Control" slider such that ALL volume levels were reduced when moving the slider. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to make it work like this on Kubuntu.
First off I should warn you that I (like many users of older hardware that is not properly supported under PulseAudio) have uninstalled PulseAudio (because it's garbage) and am using Alsa to manage my audio hardware. I would think that there would be some way to do this using the 'amixer' application to add the PCM channel as a component of the 'Master' channel so that when the volume is turned down using the 'Master' channel control it will affect the PCM channel too (at least the output to the speaker jack, not necessarily the capture or mix volume though), but I'm not really any good at doing things from a terminal window and the options for the amixer command kind of confused me.
I used Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) on IMac i7. As far as, I remember, after installing Pulse-Audio Equalizer, for each restart of the system, after login screen, system sets volume to maximum value. What can I do?

If i put the scrollbar to the 0 position, it is muted. when i move it to anywhere else, i get the full volume. From other programs like vlc, i can adjust the volume with no problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy volume control seems to have only three settings: TOO LOUD, VERY QUIET, OFF. If I adjust the Master volume slider from the Panel, only about the right 1/8th has any effect and if I slide it past about the 95% mark, I get no sound at all. At the far-right end of the volume control, I get total volume. It's basically like the slider only has any impact in the top 5% of it's space. Below 95% of the slide, there is zero volume.
It's so drastic, that one tap down of the volume button on my keyboard kills the sound (because it nudges the slider past that 95% mark). This happens in the Audio settings, etc., system-wide. If I adjust the volume for an individual app from within the app (MPlayer, for example) it behaves exactly as expected (that is, app volume works smoothly, it's just master volume that has this issue). I have run through most of the "obvious" things-- I'm wondering if I broke something by installing the extra KDE packages to get Amarok to work.
I'm running squeeze (last updated today), and everything has been working great. There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

So if I turn the volume all the way down with the physical buttons, the volume applet may still indicate 75%.I did not have this problem in Debian Lenny. View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are running an C++ application in AWS EC2 instance (CentOS 5.4) mounted with an EBS Volume (say /mymountpoint). We do more simultaneous writes to the EBS Volume from our application. But at some point we get 'ERROR: Input/output error'. After this, 'ls -l /mymountpoint' command itself fails with the i/o error. The filesystem which we use for the EBS Volume is xfs. I unmounted the drive and done xfs_check and again mounted the drive. Now, everything seems to be working fine. But the issue still persists everytime when we do simultaneous writes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhilst sound works for MBP5,1 / 5,2 under Karmic, it could definitely be better - mainly the master volume does not affect the headphone output, and the speakers don't automute when headphones are plugged in. However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). This time I install fedora I get a sound card. It says Audio oupt or something well I can hear my speakers making sounds like blerereblumm like someone is rubbing a cloth over them yt no sound though. My output volume for all applications is maxed. So, what can I do to fix this?

First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
I have installed on dual boot Windows Vista and Ubuntu 10.10. However, sound is not working in Ubuntu, it does work in Vista so I think it is safe to say it is not a hardware problem(and the sound is turned up etc and correctly plugged in). I have a dual boot xp -ubuntu - AGP ati 2600 series radeon. Intel 8300 dell. The message comes up after login "ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode". I hit ok and I get 5 choices and none of them work.
1) run ubuntu in low-graphics mode.
2) reconfigure graphics.
3) troubleshoot the error.
4) exit to console login.
5) restart X.
I am sure that this is very simple but I have installed sound juicer and the gstreamer plug ins. The problem is i still cannot select MP3 as an output output option
View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that one DVD I encoded to ogg (vorbis) resulted in files with varying volume levels (some files have sound much softer than others... and the original DVD is not like that). I wonder if it's mplayer or oggenc's fault. I do it like this (suppose):

Yesterday I was trying to connect the overhead projector to the VGA output of my laptop. The problem was that the device was connected by way of a VGA video splitter, which evidently missed some signal, and made the projector invisible to the laptop: "xrandr -v -q" told me "VGA1 disconnected".

It works, but it is a bit awkward to have to reboot to switch on or off the VGA output. So I suppose there is some user-space trick or utility to do this which I was unable to find.
I cant play mp4 files with dual audio and dual subtitles. I am using a laptop with intel graphics. I've already tried mplayer, vlc, and smplayer. But still the files wont play properly. I been jumping all over the forums reading and trying anything i come up to. What do I need to do? oh btw I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using dual-screen output with KDE 4.4 on my laptop. Is it possible to have the KDE panel on the external monitor if attached and back on the laptop's LCD panel as soon as the monitor is disconnected?
It seems that Plasma prefers the built-in LCD even if an external monitor is connected. I tried various settings with xrandr and also in the System Settings but none of them helped. The only way to move the KDE panel to the external screen is to disable the built-in LCD.
What I would basically like to do is to use the external monitor as primary in the office and the laptop LCD next to it as a second screen. When I'm traveling I'd like to use only the laptop LCD.
Is there also a nice way to switch between the screens? On the Internet I found a script for the "screen switch" key for IBM Thinkpad and modified it to work on my Dell. But it would be nice to have this also automatic: autodetect the monitor attachment/removal and perform a configured action. The KRandr doesn't seem to have such a feature. Is there anything I could use?
