View 1 Replies View Relatedis it possible to extend a mirrored veritas volume which has two SAN LUNs each one in a seperate EMC storage box.
i need to add diska -> EMC box1
and diskb -> EMC box 2
then i need to increase the size of the mirrored volume.
since using 10.04 I have a big problem with my usb headset (freetalk everyman)
1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.
2. Problem: The X server is freezing iregulary when I connect the headset and disconnect it, Magic SysRq works. I checked Xorg.0.log and found out that it recognizes the usb headset as keyboard:

The workstation is running FC14.
I have the audio out of the media machine passed into the line in on my workstation. It's just handly to have the audio pass in this way so that i can manage the volume or headphones or whatever from one machine.
This worked, and worked well, for a very long time. I recently reinstalled the workstion, FC14 still. After the reinstall, my passthrough doesn't work.
If i start up some media on the media machine, and then open up the volume control on the workstation, i can see the volume meter moving along with the audio, but nothing plays out of my speakers.
I installed KMplayer but I cant play video files...No video output but can get only the audio output...So how to make this work for videos?

First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
I don't know anything about ubuntu. Could you guys help me out. I'm pretty knowledgeable with windows if you guys need a printout of something let me know. My friends getting really frustrated about this. Help!!i
So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I finally got audio working on my ubuntu 9.10 desktop... now I am having sound issues watching movies from a network share. The sound device continually randomly changes to "dummy output device" and then there is no sound output. The sound icon dissapears on the toolbar. To get it back and audio to start working I have to $sudo alsa force-reloadIt seems to happen everytime there is a network delay, the movie will stop for a second and then when it plays the sound is gone
View 1 Replies View RelatedSay I have 2 speakers connected to 2 different sound cards. Under Windows, is it possible to have some sort of virtual device that would forward an audio stream to both sound cards? If this can't be easily done under Windows, a solution for Linux is also fine. lternatively, if the 2 speakers are connected to different channels of a sound card, is there any vendor-independent way to duplicate audio to both channels?

We do more simultaneous writes to the EBS Volume from our application. But at some point we get 'ERROR: Input/output error'. After this, 'ls -l /mymountpoint' command itself fails with the i/o error. The filesystem which we use for the EBS Volume is xfs. I unmounted the drive and done xfs_check and again mounted the drive. Now, everything seems to be working fine. But the issue still persists everytime when we do simultaneous writes.

This time I install fedora I get a sound card. It says Audio oupt or something well I can hear my speakers making sounds like blerereblumm like someone is rubbing a cloth over them yt no sound though. My output volume for all applications is maxed. So, what can I do to fix this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSeveral days ago, I replace my PC's motherboard and now sound is too low - I can't hear practically anything, I used alsamixer to configure output volume level to normal, but this won't survive reboot.

I have a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu 9.04. When I boot into XP the volume is fine, but when I boot into Ubuntu the output volume is half what it is in XP. I have to crank my stereo way up to get it to a decent volume. Is there any way to boost the output volume in Ubuntu?

I have a dual boot and my windows plays audio fine.My ubuntu plays audio fine as well however when I click on the Volume Control icon on the panel it gives me this error:No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.and I am still unable to control volume. I have alsamixer installed and it can control my system sound fine but all this time I've been able to use the controls on my HP Pavilion dv5250ca laptop's keyboard controls to control the volume and I'd like to be able to continue doing that- I haven't been able to for the last 2 days.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into Sound Preferences I can crank up the output volume above 100%, making it audible from my monitor's built in speakers.
(this is for a kiosk that doesn't have room for extra powered speakers) Every time I reboot it resets output volume to 100%. Is there a way to change the volume back to 125% or whatever max is so the general public can hear the video that is played after a reboot? (this is to be a permanent installation that won't even have a keyboard or mouse attached, so automating this is a must)
Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

Whilst sound works for MBP5,1 / 5,2 under Karmic, it could definitely be better - mainly the master volume does not affect the headphone output, and the speakers don't automute when headphones are plugged in. However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). If you want to test it (since so far I've only tested it on my MBP5,1 - any feedback from MacBook 5,1 / MB(P) 5,2 owners would be great too) follow these instructions: First make sure you don't have any versions of linux-backports-modules-alsa installed:

I noticed that one DVD I encoded to ogg (vorbis) resulted in files with varying volume levels (some files have sound much softer than others... and the original DVD is not like that). I wonder if it's mplayer or oggenc's fault. I do it like this (suppose):
Code:
for i in 01 02 03 04 05 ; do mplayer-vc null -vo null -ao pcm:filename=$i.wav dvd:// -title $i-$i; oggenc $i.wav $i.ogg; rm $i.wav; done
I'm doing it by memory so I could have a mistkate or two in the sequence of commands but the idea is very simple
- Output the sound to a wav file using mplayer
- Encode it with oggenc
- Delete the wav file.
Why is the result having varying volume levels?
I'm having a problem with sound. No audio from speakers (multi boot system, audio works on other os). Plug in logitech headset, and very low audio volume (skype is not usable). View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I hit the Pulse Audio Device Chooser icon and then click on 'Volume Control' the volume control GUI flashes on for long enough for me to realise it has flashed on and then is gone again! If I run the chooser as root from a terminal (sudo padevchooser) I get this response when I hit the error:
Code:

** ERROR:(pavucontrol.cc:339):void StreamWidget::setVolume(const pa_cvolume&, bool): assertion failed: (v.channels == channelMap.channels)
Strange thing is, I have spent a lot of time working on my wife's laptop and Pulse Audio was working great (after many brain twisting, hair ripping hours of working on it) and indeed is still working despite the lack of GUI. This is all good except I want to change the output device for ringing in Skype and this is where I need to 'Move Stream ...' and can't get to it.
This started today in my session: no audio output. In sound preferences, hardware, in Profile, the options are now Off and Analog mono input. In Output tab, I see Dummy output stereo as the device. Nothing is muted.

View 3 Replies View Related basically I was having some problems with the audio in skype, and as per the instructions on this page, I ran
Code:
sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio && sudo apt-get install esound
(note: using apt-get not aptitude). The only effect this had was to remove the volume indicator/menu from unity's top panel and didn't fix the sound in skype. So I did
Code:
sudo apt-get purge esound
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
and the volume indicator is still missing. And the audio still doesn't work in skype.
I have a problem with the audio output in Fedora 15. It seems 'dirty' to me, like with a lot of distortion. I use for the output a nice USB DAC that seems to run very good with Ubuntu and Windows, strangely with Fedora isn't the same. I say strangely because the sound pipeline must be very similar to that of Ubuntu, no? Kernel, ALSA, Pulseaudio and so on. How could I improve mine audio output? Tried with Flash videos and Audacious audio player. Lowering audio output (like to 50%) greatly improve audio quality! Why is permitted to the system to go over and distort?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have a DAC/Headphone Amplifier which plugs in through USB. Through the system settings I'm able to set it as the preferred audio output option. This makes all the windows manager sounds come through the headphones, but all the applications still come through the laptop speakers; i guess they are completely independent of the system settings. I have to set each application's output preferences separately, and some software (like Firefox) doesn't have any output preferences. So is there a way toirect the audio output of all applications to all come through the USB DAC
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop and have multi-media buttons, some of which control the audio volume. But once a game is running like Sauerbraten, I cannot control the volume. The controls within the game are relative to the master volume, so if the volume is too low, I have to exit the game to adjust it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, this is not a rhythmbox issue, but a pulseaudio one. Everytime I click on next song (in rhythmbox or amarok), the master volume drops about 25 percent. Once the volume goes to 0, the volume cannot be modified without going into sound preferences and unmuting the volume for the application. This is *very* annoying. Basically, it means that everytime I click on next song, I need to follow that with 2 or 3 hits of up volume.
