Debian Configuration :: Df Output Shows Mixed Dm-X

Jun 25, 2015

After upgrading our vmware template server from debian wheezy to debian jessie the output of the df command seems broken with regards to the root and /usr mount. We are using LVM on this machine.I've been searching for quite some time for a solution, but lack of linux knowledge is bothering me to get it fixed. The system seems to run fine without issues.

I can temporarily resolve the issue (untill next boot) by doing a lazy umount and a new mount of for example the /usr.I found a thread that something has changed in the way df presents the devices, however it is not consistent in our case (it shows a mix of both) and it seems to go wrong at an earlier stage during boot.Either show all dm devices or mapper devices is fine with me although I have a slight preference for the mapper names as it makes it more obvious LVM is being used.

Code: Select alldf -h                                                                                                                                                                                           11:12

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Usb Headset - Cannot Regulate The Volume Of The Phones (output) Anymore With Gnome-volume-control

Jun 12, 2010

since using 10.04 I have a big problem with my usb headset (freetalk everyman)

1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.

2. Problem: The X server is freezing iregulary when I connect the headset and disconnect it, Magic SysRq works. I checked Xorg.0.log and found out that it recognizes the usb headset as keyboard:

Fedora :: Sound Output Volume Too Low / Make It High?

Aug 27, 2010

Several days ago, I replace my PC's motherboard and now sound is too low - I can't hear practically anything, I used alsamixer to configure output volume level to normal, but this won't survive reboot.
I tried to use 'alsactl' and saveed rules, and edited rc.local to restore - but it didn't help. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Fedora :: Open Office - Mixed Package Version

I'm running fedora 12, am a relatively new user, and downloaded OO 320. package is 9483. I installed it before I realized fedora already included an OO version. Now, I click the icons and nothing happens. I looked at the desktop-integration area, and see the package for the icons is 7823? Yum will now neither update, nor remove OO. I hate having to revert to Windows to do some of my work.

CentOS 5 :: EBS Volume - Input / Output Error

Feb 24, 2011

We are running an C++ application in AWS EC2 instance (CentOS 5.4) mounted with an EBS Volume (say /mymountpoint). We do more simultaneous writes to the EBS Volume from our application. But at some point we get 'ERROR: Input/output error'. After this, 'ls -l /mymountpoint' command itself fails with the i/o error. The filesystem which we use for the EBS Volume is xfs. I unmounted the drive and done xfs_check and again mounted the drive. Now, everything seems to be working fine. But the issue still persists everytime when we do simultaneous writes.

I believe the following details will be useful,
[root@domU-12-31-39-07-81-36 StoreGrid]# cat /etc/redhat-release
CentOS release 5.4 (Final) .....

Output of dmesg :

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Headphone / Speaker Output Affected By Volume Control

Jun 25, 2010

Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

Ubuntu / Apple :: MacBook (Pro) 5,1 / 5,2 - Master Volume Does Not Affect The Headphone Output

Jan 13, 2010

Whilst sound works for MBP5,1 / 5,2 under Karmic, it could definitely be better - mainly the master volume does not affect the headphone output, and the speakers don't automute when headphones are plugged in. However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). If you want to test it (since so far I've only tested it on my MBP5,1 - any feedback from MacBook 5,1 / MB(P) 5,2 owners would be great too) follow these instructions: First make sure you don't have any versions of linux-backports-modules-alsa installed:

Software :: Mplayer/oggenc From Dvd: Why Does It Produce Output With Varying Volume Levels

Sep 6, 2010

I noticed that one DVD I encoded to ogg (vorbis) resulted in files with varying volume levels (some files have sound much softer than others... and the original DVD is not like that). I wonder if it's mplayer or oggenc's fault. I do it like this (suppose):

Code:

for i in 01 02 03 04 05 ; do mplayer-vc null -vo null -ao pcm:filename=$i.wav dvd:// -title $i-$i; oggenc $i.wav $i.ogg; rm $i.wav; done
I'm doing it by memory so I could have a mistkate or two in the sequence of commands but the idea is very simple

- Output the sound to a wav file using mplayer
- Encode it with oggenc
- Delete the wav file.

Why is the result having varying volume levels?

Fedora :: Dumb Lvm - Volume Group And Volume Names Are Gone From View

Jan 22, 2011

I don't know much about lvm and I've managed to screw up a drive. I had a 500GB drive with FC14 on it and I wanted to copy over a load of data to my new 1TB that was replacing it. I set up my new install the same way as the old...including the same volume names (error number 1 I think) I successfully mounted the old/500GB drive (using vgscan and vgchange -a y etc.) using a laptop (running FC13) and an external hdd cradle. I could access the files I wanted but this wasn't the machine I wanted to copy them to (I was doing this while waiting for the install to finish on the new drive).

When I tried the same process on the new install I found that having two lvm with the same name meant I couldn't mount the external one. So I opened the disk utility (palimsest) and was going to change the name of the old volume group but it wouldn't let me do that. I then thought maybe I could get away with just changing the name of the partition where the files were and maybe I could add it to the mounted group or something so I changed it to lv_home2. This changed the name of my new/1TB lv_home to lv_home2 as well. So thinking that wasn't the answer I just changed the name of the new lv_home2 back to lv_home.

From that point on I haven't been able to see the old drives partitions (the new volume group still works so far). I has a physical volume but the volume group and volume names are gone from view. When I try to vgscan on my main computer or the laptop I had it working on earlier I get:

Fedora :: Volume Control Keys On Keyboard Don't Control Volume Anymore

Oct 29, 2009

Volume up, volume down and mute keys on the keyboard don't control the volume any longer. They worked before. Hitting the keys brings up a progress bar widget with the volume level unchangeable, set at 0% (which is not accurate at all).It looks like the key mappings or key bindings are working, but there is a disconnect with actual functionality. The volume cannot be changed or muted anymore from the keyboard.

This worked just fine in KDE on Fedora 11 before upgrading KDE components yesterday with Yumex. I am now using KDE 4.3.2 I don't think that it's a coincidence that it stopped working after doing an update.
I updated the kernel and nVidia drivers too, but this problem exists when I went back and tested with the previous kernel, so I don't suspect the kernel upgrade. No info in Xorg.conf about the keyboard. Is there a setting that I am missing?

Sound works just fine. I can listen to whatever source I like. This is not a problem with the sound drivers as far as I can tell.I just want to be able to control the volume with the keys on my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, model Y-UY95. Is anyone else experiencing this?I can adjust the volume with Kmix 3.5 or GNOME Volume Control V2.1

Ubuntu :: Convert NRG Mixed-mode To BIN / CUE?

Jun 24, 2010

I've just spent the past two days trying to figure out how to convert an NRG image to BIN/CUE format. I've found all kinds of info on how to convert it to ISO. I've tried lots of different packages (K3B, Brasero, AcetoneISO...). No luck.

My NRG is an image of an old DOS game I want to play in DOSBox. The catch is that it's mixed-mode, so converting to ISO is not a possibility. DOSBox will mount BIN/CUEs, so that seems the route to go. But while K3B supports creating mixed-mode CDs, it doesn't read NRG images. And while AcetoneISO will mount the NRG, only the data track is accessible; the audio tracks aren't.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Printing All Mixed Up After The First Page

Apr 22, 2011

Both my printers can't print more that one page on the row whatever the application I use.

I used to have a all-in-one printer HP PSC 1510 that I installed without any trouble.

A few days ago, I've got another scanner-printer HP 1050 that I tried to install on the same laptop in order to use it in another place. I had to take the new version of HP-lip, since 11.3 did not provide the right driver. I just printed the test page and it seemed okay.

Then, I upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4. And I had to print a long document. Only the first page was displayed correctly. All the following pages are more and more mixed up. It prints allways the same paragraph with big dark lines...

Following to cup, the drivers in use are :
Deskjet_1050_J410 : HP Deskjet 1050 j410 Series, hpcups 3.11.3a
PSC-1500-series : HP PSC 1500 Series, hpcups 3.10.2rc1.9

But the trouble is the same for both printers.

I can't guess if it comes from HP-lip or from my upgrade.

Ubuntu Networking :: Speed In A Mixed Env - Only Running 10/100 M/Bit

Apr 21, 2010

When the summer-holidays are a fact and it's time for some fun I will be upgrading my home network with a diskstation of some kind, and since all models I currently looks at supports 10/100/1000 M/Bit networking it got me thinking.

My desktop also supports 10/100/1000 M/Bit networking and since I already uses a 10/100 M/Bit switch between my desktop and (file)server, it would be very easy to buy a new switch that also supports 1000 M/Bit networking and then connect the diskstation to that switch as well. But the router the new switch will be connected to is only running 10/100 M/Bit so the question is, at what speed will the new switch be running?

Networking :: IP To Hostname Mixed Up - Unable To Browse The Pc2

May 28, 2009

Yesterday, I had the problem where I would browse to linuxpc2 and it would send me to linuxpc5. Theses computers are on my AD domain (server2003), so I decided to set a dhcp reservation on the server and del /var/lib/dhcpcd/*.* This fixed 1 of the 3 linuxpcs that had mixed up or matching ip addresses. What is happening now, and I've never seen this happen before, maybe it's a server thing, I'm not a huge network guy, so here it goes... from the server I can brows with the explorer to linuxpc2 and all is well, it's IP is 192.168.0.150, but when I ping it, or do anything command line (ping linuxpc2) it pings the address 192.168.0.101 (it's old address). From a linux box browsing to smb://linuxpc2 shows me no shares, and ping goes to ...101 address. If I brows to smb://192.168.0.150, all is well and ping 192.168.0.150 is fine also. What could be causing this? only 2 of my 8 linuxpcs are doing this. all installed and configured within the same day using suse 11.1 and updated.

Hardware :: Cloning Mixed - Win Xp - Clone The Volumes Onto The SSD?

Feb 7, 2010

I have a multi-boot system in my MSI Wind netbook that includes Win xp home, Ubuntu, and another Linux distro. The internal HD is 160gb, but most of it isn't used. I just bought a 60gb SSD, and would like to use it as the primary disk in my netbook. I would like to clone the Win xp and Ubuntu volumes to the SSD, which would leave me plenty of space, even if I added another distro later. With gparted, I can see that there is an initial logical volume of about 4gb (dev/sda1) with 775mb used, and by mounting and checking it I can see that it has a boot folder in it. It is formatted as ext3 (no flags). I don't understand the MBR concept very well, so I'm wondering if this is where the MBR is stored. The next volume is my Windows volume and is formatted NTFS with a boot flag. Subsequent volumes are clearly Linux volumes, including swapfile volumes. I have already formatted the SSD as NTFS, but as of yet haven't added any partitions.

(1) How do I clone the volumes I want onto the SSD? (Presumably with dd or a similar utility).
(2) Does the destination volume have to be initially set to be the same as the source volume?
(3) Do I need that first partition or would a new one automatically be created if I reinstall Ubuntu or any Debian-based distro from scratch or use a utility to fix the MBR?
