Fedora :: Sound Output Volume Too Low / Make It High?
Aug 27, 2010Several days ago, I replace my PC's motherboard and now sound is too low - I can't hear practically anything, I used alsamixer to configure output volume level to normal, but this won't survive reboot.
I tried to use 'alsactl' and saveed rules, and edited rc.local to restore - but it didn't help. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Sound Volume Default To Zero On Each Restart?
Aug 31, 2011I use headphones and have an MCP73 sound device; am running OpenSUSE 11.4.
On each restart, I get no sound. I have to go to YAST, Hardware, Sound, Other, Volume. The 'Other channels', Front slider is at 0%. If I slide it up to 100%, my headphones start working. At this point the Help text says to press 'Next' to save the settings, but there isn't a 'Next' button...just a Cancel and OK. OK keeps the new setting, but apparently doesn't save it permanently.
What can I do to avoid having to reset this slider every time ?

Apr 26, 2010I have sound but my volume controls dont work on my asus laptop. If i goto system - pref - sounds it says its loading it and then it closes. Pulse audio says it cant connect. Ive also lost the volume control icon in the top right for some reason as well? The only thing ive done recent is install mp3 codecs. Now i half to manually reload the drivers for my volume to work after bootup.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Applet Disappeared And Cannot Change System Volume?
Feb 11, 2011Recently I installed JACK and Ardour to try out. Later I decided against it and so I uninstalled them. After restarting my computer, I noticed that the sound applet has disappeared from the panel, although the battery and mail icons are still present. There is still sound coming out of my laptop speakers, but it is stuck at whatever volume I had it set on before the last time I shut down. Volume sliders inside Banshee and suchll function, but I cannot change the overall system volume, and my keyboard shortcuts for this have stopped working as well. When I go into System->Preferences->Sound, all I get is a message that says "Waiting for sound system to respond." and nothing happens. I've tried searching around for a solution, but nobody I could find seems to have had aimilar problem, and none of the various other solutions proposed have worked for me. I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 by the way.

1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.

When I log into Gnome the volume is set to 100%, but Fluxbox is always set to mute.

If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. Apr 26, 2011Just wondering if anyone else experienced this. I have been using Ubuntu for half a year now and I love it. I just installed Kubuntu Desktop to try it out and I found that I can't get near as high volume with it than I do with Ubuntu. Ubuntu is even way louder than the Windows that used to be on here.
So why is there a change in the max of volume? I am a huge music person and that is the only thing holding me back from getting rid of gnome. I like how fresh and clean KDE is.

However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. Feb 24, 2011We are running an C++ application in AWS EC2 instance (CentOS 5.4) mounted with an EBS Volume (say /mymountpoint). We do more simultaneous writes to the EBS Volume from our application. But at some point we get 'ERROR: Input/output error'. After this, 'ls -l /mymountpoint' command itself fails with the i/o error. The filesystem which we use for the EBS Volume is xfs. I unmounted the drive and done xfs_check and again mounted the drive. Now, everything seems to be working fine. But the issue still persists everytime when we do simultaneous writes.

However, I've finally got around to writing a patch for alsa which fixes this - the patch is against the latest version of alsa-drivers (1.0.22.1). In alsamixer, the speakers volume is set to zero and I can't hear anything (headphones work properly, though). I turn it up and the speakers work, but each time I reboot it goes back to zero. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers.
