I cant play mp4 files with dual audio and dual subtitles. I am using a laptop with intel graphics. I've already tried mplayer, vlc, and smplayer. But still the files wont play properly. I been jumping all over the forums reading and trying anything i come up to. What do I need to do? oh btw I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
View 3 RepliesI'm using openSUSE 11.3 for my laptop and Kaffeine built in as my player. But when I tried to play any files with external subtitles, there is nothing happened. The drop-down list of subtitles is just gray and cannot be used.
So I have two questions:
(1) Can Kaffeine built in openSUSE 11.3 load subtitles automatically?
(2) If it cannot, how to load subtitles manually?
Can anyone tell me how to play dual audio mkv in Ubuntu??I tried Mediaplayer,but it plays only the english audio and not the dubbed audio??
Is this any small settings issue or do i need an different player to play such file?
I recently got a signal conversion box so I could route my netbooks monitor-out port to my TV. The idea being that I could effectively set the TV up as a separate monitor for watching movies on whilst I worked using the netbooks own monitor. It seemed to work initially, the Monitors dialog box could easily detect and setup the TV as if it were just an external monitor however I can't seem to play any kind of video on either screen when this is set up. All I get in Totem, Mplayer, VLC and skype is just a black area within the applications window. The sound works fine so this is clearly just a video problem.
It only seems to occur when I configure the system to use the TV as a separate monitor. If I tell it to display the same thing on both monitors all video output works fine.
I am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?

It converts any mobile file to a file of your choice, it worked PERFECTLY for my .qcp file, converted it from qcp to mp3 with no problem, no skips, full file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently been tasked to extract the subtitles from a lot of mkv files. Hundreds of them, maybe even more than a thousand. To do this, I modified a script I found online:

So in the above example the subtitle is actually in track number one and my script would be borked for that particular file. Is there a way to integrate mkvinfo into the script and parse it to see what track should be extracted? Like, read it line-by-line and change the value of some #TRACKNO variable everytime a string like "| + Track number:" appears, and stop when a string like "| + Track type: subtitles" appears? Maybe even skip doing anything if there aren't any subtitles.
PS: I actually prefer SRT subtitles to ***. If there was some command line tool I could use to convert the resulting *** file to SRT I would be much obliged.
I use divxenc 1.4.6 to create AVI files. Works great. Recently, I started using the option to subsequently convert that to MKV, so I can include multiple subtitles inside the file. Unfortuately, the subtitles show up much to high in the picture. In the AVI format, the subs are just above the bottom of the image. But in the MKV here they appear at about 1/3 up from the bottom. This behaviour shows in both Mplayer for Linux and VLC for Windows. So I guess it's in the file. Is there an updated version of divxenc, or another tool to generate MKV's directly ?

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
I'm trying to play idx/sub subtitles with an avi movie. I have previously used these on Windows, but no clue how to use them in Ubuntu. I know I can convert them to srt, but that requires OCR which (from experience) makes a bunch of mistakes, so I don't want that. So far I've tried Totem and Gnome MPlayer. Is there any way to achieve this?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my imac. i can play videos from videos no problem but when i try and play avi, mov or any other video format, the movie player quickly opens and closes. when i try with vlc player, i see the player bar but no video. when i try with smplayer, i can watch the video but when i go full screen, the movie doesn't take up the whole area of the screen. it stays at the same small size.
what do i need to do to make this right? i installed the ubuntu restricted extras. did i miss something?

We've used Windows once in the past month, so we decided to jettison it. Two questions: 1. Can we simply delete all partiitions on the IDE hard drive and reformat or will this cause problems? 2 Is the write-speed gain worth switching the drives out, putting the Ubuntu drive in my IDE slot and my freshly wiped drive on the USB adapter?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am quite experienced user of Ubuntu desktop / server distributions. Recently my desktop 9.10 disk failed and I decided to reinstall using 10.04. My configuration is a dual disk dual bot system. I have XP Pro SP3 on one disk and Ubuntu 10.04 on second. XP has own, untached MBR ubuntu got Grub 2 installed on the same disk as Ubuntu. Ubuntu disk is booting first in BIOS. Grub 2 detected both system, however I can boot only to Ubuntu. When I am trying to boot XP I got black screen only. Looks like booting is stack in BIOS stage, because crt+alt+del reset system.
I read Ubuntu forum, search Google and did not come with any solutions. My XP MBR is OK. I can boot directly, choosing XP HDD in BIOS as a starting disk. All entries in grub.cfg looks fine to me. I made 3 different clear installations of Ubuntu. Each with the same result. I reinstaled Grub2 with no effect. I wonder if this may be a hardware/Grub 2 compatibility issue. I am using quite old components.My motherboard is Assus P4C800 Delux. I have 5 HDDs 2 CD. Exactly the same configuration was OK with 9.10/XP dual disk dual boot using Grub legacy.

I have set the hotkey for "Very short backwards jump" and "Very short forward jump" to "Left" and "Right" respectively, and yet pressing the left and right arrow key does not work. Plus when I play the video in fullscreen the subtitles look pixelated.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora and Gnome on a laptop and I'd like to play an audio file. I installed xmms and the mp3 plugin via yum, and started xmms amd tried to play the file. The progress bar advances as if the file is playing, but there's no sound in my headphones. I do have gnome volume slider bar set to the highest value. I tried running alsamixer and the volume is set to the highest level (however +/- causes alsamixer to exit, and not change the volume level like the F1-Help page says). What can I do?I tried the Gnome filesystem browser and clicked on mp3 or wav file which brings up the totem music player. Again, the progress bar advances as if the file is being played, but no sound.
