Using the ubuntu live cd 9.10 I get weird error messages when shutting down the system, sometimes it is this one:
device removed: /freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_80_00_60_0f_e8_00
Other times it is bunch of errors saying something like:
i/o error/end request/dev/sector ****, with all different sector numbers..
These happens even when I have not installed anything, not using any flash drives etc...
Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.

I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?

A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. log out and try again", and it repeated every time I tried to log in. I created a file "gnome-shell.desktop" in the ~/.config/autostart directory, the error message no longer appears, but I get only a wallpaper which means no top bar or else. When i shutdown my SuSE 11.2 box with all current updates i have started to notice an error message.Something about failed to unmount, trying remount as read only or something like that.The trouble is its almost the very last message that appears and its not on the screen long enough to read properly.Somewhere is there a logfile that i can recover this error message from so that i can make some sort of an attempt to resolve the issue, post the whole message here in more detail?

Although, I have downloaded, compiled and installed linux drivers from realtek website it did not fix the problem. internet which is simply deleting .pulse folder and restarting it didnt work either.At the moment I am using terminal alsamixer for controlling sound level but even the maximum attainable volume is too low.

The caption of the error is 'No root file system' and the message itself says 'No root file system is defined.Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I enclose a screenshot of this. I had also problems with booting Ubuntu and Windows after installing Ubuntu to an external hard disk so I probably have to also create a new boot menu (may be it is differently called, 'grub' possibly, I am not really sure).

There is a centralized FTP server which are accessed by clients to develop some web development project and to achieve this the clients are using ftp service. The problem is when they are trying to copy any files and directories they are getting the following error: "Message reported from the file system: FTP copy not supported,use move instead"
I've checked all the permissions and they are all OK. I don't know why this is happening. they can create and move files and folders but can't copy files and folders.
my iwlist scan is normal. ethernet connection ok, wirless not working but does seem to receive. wifi radar lists my router ssid. Does this say I have the correct router for my wireless is my question? I am also getting this error message with this system on KDE, LENNY. From KWLAN a wpasupplicant front end.

But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.
I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.
I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.
I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.
The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.
I boot EPC 1000h from usb(Fedora-12-i686-Live). it shows msg at the point about "drm-model-rmfb". ...than it "sleep forever".

When I try to do this, I come to an 'allocate drive space' window, but whatever I do I get the error message: 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I just don't know what this means, or what to do next. I'm loathe to ditch windows, and I don't want to have to use a flashdrive all the time.

I am experiencing an issue with the system shut down.
Everything works fine, but the system is not able to automatically power off and I have to manually switch it off.
How could I fix this behavior?
I am using debian testing on my office pc, but i need to access it's desktop from time to time. So i need No machine/teamviewer software that can provide me with possibility to interact my desktop. The problem is, that i want to run shadowed session type, because teamviewer is not good for me. View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've got a backup server that has a daily cronjob to back up all my systems. My desktop PC is usually in sleep mode to save power. So my backup server has to wake up the desktop via wake-on-LAN to start the backup job. When the backup script is done, my backup server sends a shutdown command to the desktop to put it back in sleep mode.
The trouble is that SSH is timing out during the shutdown process and waits a ridiculous amount of time before giving up and allowing my backup server to move on to the next backup script. Here's the portion of my backup script for the desktop that does the shutdown stuff:

Normally the entire backup job will only take about 5 minutes. But because of SSH timing out, it takes 164 minutes!
As a matter of detail, my backup server is running Ubuntu 9.10, and the desktop is Windows 7 x64 with Cygwin. The -p option for the shutdown command in Cygwin is for sleep mode.

For some reason (hardware - I am guessing) the LiveCD does not boot on some laptops. The LiveCD worked well on my Dell Inspiron 1525 without any problems but my Fujitsu-Siemens refused to boot up. If you are trying to install or use F12 with the LiveCD ISO image burnt onto a CD on a laptop and fails with the following error:[drm:drm_mode_rmfb] *ERROR* tried to remove a fb that we didn't own Boot has failed, sleeping foreverthis workaround may work for you. Sometimes it will come up with another error about 'Root Device Not Found'
The workaround only works on a bootable USB key for some other reason, created with 'live-usb creator' and not a CD nor a LiveCD image on a USB created on a windows machine. I have tried them all.

My system just shut itself down as I was using it. I'd like to try to understand why.
First, I noticed there are 1 to 4 messages per second in my messages.1 through messages.4 files in /var/log going back to September 27. It probably started before then, but I don't have older logs.
There almost nothing else in the messages log but these messages, millions of them. They look like these:

I just installed 11.3 and Gnome yesterday and all went well except that the system will not shut down, it simply reboots. I've tried shutting it down using halt and shutdown now as root and each time the machine reboots. I didn't have this problem with 11.1.

The problem facing is sometimes The dialog box "The sustem will immediately shut down" is shown and goes to power off. I thinks it is connected with a hardware problem. But It is difficult to trace out what is the problem and in which part of the hardware it is.
The motherboard of this computer was complaint and it was replaced by the company (It is seen than it is the same motherboard with one IC replaced)
The problem is difficult to identify since it is not happening every time. When the service persons are here it is working fine. But when i works with the computer seriously, the problem arises - mostly in night. I have checked the power, voltage etc - everything fine. Also it is in linux, service persons don't pay attentions to solve the problem.
Is it the problem with RAM? It is a new RAM. Even if it is bad I can't replace it because it is working! and in windows (service persons check it with windows only)

Status of csf:csf and lfd have been disabled, use 'csf -e' to enable Status of lfd:lfd is stopped. The only thing I have is a management-interface with a command prompt(luckily !) You can see that any firewall is disabled.
Still I can not reach my server. Not through webmin via the public address, not through the VPN on the private address (10.10.0.1). So no webmin. I cannot reach my server via ssh. I cannot ping my server on the public IP-address from my client.
What else besides the firewall can restrict my access to my server ?
