Ubuntu Multimedia :: Got Error Message - Waiting For Sound System To Respond / Fix It?
May 8, 2010
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 although everything works fine I have a problem related to sound, When I click Preferences/Sound I get the message "waiting for sound system to respond" and actually it does not respond at all. Although, I have downloaded, compiled and installed linux drivers from realtek website it did not fix the problem. internet which is simply deleting .pulse folder and restarting it didnt work either. At the moment I am using terminal alsamixer for controlling sound level but even the maximum attainable volume is too low.
I am getting the error message "Waiting for sound system to respond" when I click on System> Preference> Sound in ubuntu 10.04 in root login but when I login in with different user account same works fine.I am not much familiar with Linux.I already tried to following:
1. Deleted .pulse folder form Home folder Thread here 2. This thread 3. And lots more
I am using ubuntu 10.10 and today my audio suddenly stopped playing properly. It is playing at a very low volume and when i try to open sound preferences then i am introduced to a dialog box which shows the message as follows "Waiting for sound system to respond.". After this the dialog box closes without showing any preferences options. Now how can i make my sound drivers as they were before ? ..
I've spend the morning poking through forums and attempting every fix suggested and still no luck on this one:At first i didn't have any sound. But now I do (and I'm not sure which solution fixed the problem). But I still don't have a Sound icon in my menu bar and when I attempt to access my Sound Preferences I receive the message: "Waiting for sound system to respond" which display indefinitely.
I tried: - removing and reinstalling alsa packages - deleting the .pulse folder - adding a Pulseadio daemon
I have installed Fedora 11 recently on a new system. Sphinx speech recognition was working fine on my old system. When i run the same project on my new system, the system does not respond as it is waiting for microphone voice input.
Then I checked the microphone and have set it properly and its working now. The details how i made my microphone working is at the following link: [url]
Though, I can record and play any sound, but it is not working with sphinx project.
The system is an old AMD Duron 650MHz that was dug out of the garbage, trying to set it up as a light duty server. I installed ubuntu 10.04 with no errors or troubles during the install, however whenever the system is booted it sits at a cursor for about a minute then goes into busybox giving the error "Gave up waiting on root device." and says that the hard drive does not excist. If I sit at busybox for about another minute and type exit it then boots ubuntu 10.04 with no errors or issues.
I cant seem to install Ubuntu 9.10 at all. At 15% I get the following Error Message Input/output Error During Read On/dev/sda then I get the creation of swapspace in partition #5 of SCSI1(0,0,0) (SDA) Failed. Ive tried 6 times already. Im getting no sound at all. How can I change the screen resolution. 800 x 600 is the highest it will go. Im getting really discouraged with Ubuntu. Alot of people seem to have the same problems I am having but there is no solutions. I've checked the MEMTEST and passed, done a disk check and passed.
Using the ubuntu live cd 9.10 I get weird error messages when shutting down the system, sometimes it is this one: device removed: /freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_80_00_60_0f_e8_00
Other times it is bunch of errors saying something like: i/o error/end request/dev/sector ****, with all different sector numbers.. These happens even when I have not installed anything, not using any flash drives etc...
I'm running Kubuntu 9.10 X64, and am using ALSA for my sound. I have no trouble with sound: VLC, Adobe's Flash plugin, Java, etc. all work properly. When I run the Gnash standalone player, sound does not work at all.
INIT : Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. I pressed ctr+c and logined and type startx. I am using KDE, but now i am in GNOME. What is this error message. I reacently update all software on OS.
Installed Wheezy. Audio players either stop with an error message about no sound, or they quietly play silence. Tried with gui and comand-line versions.
Mucking about with lspci indicates that I have two sound cards. News to me. I try "lspci | grep -i audio" and get 00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell HD Audio Controller (rev 06) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Lynx Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
After I installed the "GNOME Software Development" group with yum, I couldn,t log into the Gnome desktop. An error message says "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. log out and try again", and it repeated every time I tried to log in. I created a file "gnome-shell.desktop" in the ~/.config/autostart directory, the error message no longer appears, but I get only a wallpaper which means no top bar or else. The file's content is as follows:
When i shutdown my SuSE 11.2 box with all current updates i have started to notice an error message.Something about failed to unmount, trying remount as read only or something like that. The trouble is its almost the very last message that appears and its not on the screen long enough to read properly.Somewhere is there a logfile that i can recover this error message from so that i can make some sort of an attempt to resolve the issue, post the whole message here in more detail?
I am getting an error message at step 5 of 8 in the installation process. I am using Ubuntu LiveCD. The caption of the error is 'No root file system' and the message itself says 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I enclose a screenshot of this. I had also problems with booting Ubuntu and Windows after installing Ubuntu to an external hard disk so I probably have to also create a new boot menu (may be it is differently called, 'grub' possibly, I am not really sure).
My Ibuntu 10.4 system can't be updated because of error message:"Segmentation faulty tree" coming from apt-get check. It reads 50% of then stops. It shows reading the package lists, the Done.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System: OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install) OpenSoundSystem 4.2 KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I'm trying to use TheLastRipper Linux port 1.4.0. It worked fine for a while, but after logging in, setting the tag, and tuning in, I keep getting the following pop up message:
System.Net.WebException: Error getting response stream (ReadDone2): ReceiveFailure ---> System.Exception: at System.Net.WebConnection.HandleError(WebExceptionS tatus st, System.Exception e, System.String where) at System.Net.WebConnection.ReadDone(IAsyncResult result)
There is a centralized FTP server which are accessed by clients to develop some web development project and to achieve this the clients are using ftp service. The problem is when they are trying to copy any files and directories they are getting the following error: "Message reported from the file system: FTP copy not supported, use move instead" I've checked all the permissions and they are all OK. I don't know why this is happening. they can create and move files and folders but can't copy files and folders.
So I have been at this problem for most of the morning and I have run out of ideas: I want to convert and mp4 to avi, and having uninstalled ffmpeg, winff and all other dependencies and followed the fabled guide[URL].... to install a complied version of ffmpeg, I keep on getting this error when trying to convert:
my iwlist scan is normal. ethernet connection ok, wirless not working but does seem to receive. wifi radar lists my router ssid. Does this say I have the correct router for my wireless is my question? I am also getting this error message with this system on KDE, LENNY. From KWLAN a wpasupplicant front end.
"you do not have permissions to start pppd or pppd was not found. Dial up networking will not work."
This happens every time I try to burn an audio CD burning data CD seems to work fine.I open Brasero, click Audio project, drag a couple of FLAC files into it and try to burn, or in this particular case, create an image.A dialogue pops up where I am supposed to tell it where to put the image. I click Desktop but I don't change the file name (something like brasero.cue or whatever). Then it starts doing things but after a short while I get an error message and I am asked to save the log file, which I did and here it is:
Code: Checking session consistency (brasero_burn_check_session_consistency brasero-burn.c:1741) BraseroNormalize called brasero_job_get_action
I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.
I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.
I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.
I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.
The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.

When i update cache in ubuntu,it is always displaying "waiting for jockey-backend to exit" and then there isn't any reaction.what's jockey-backend? how can i update cache successfully?
I can use Ubuntu from my flash drive, but I want to install it in a partition alongside windows. When I try to do this, I come to an 'allocate drive space' window, but whatever I do I get the error message: 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I just don't know what this means, or what to do next. I'm loathe to ditch windows, and I don't want to have to use a flashdrive all the time.
