INIT : Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. I pressed ctr+c and logined and type startx. I am using KDE, but now i am in GNOME. What is this error message. I reacently update all software on OS.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on an old Pentium 4 desktop PC I have, which is not being used for much other than being a MTA, and I want to migrate this functionality onto the CentOS platform for stability (Windows is a perpetual nightmare. I partitioned a spare 20GB to experiment with, and I want to install CentOS into here to play around with first so I can move my files around between Windows and CentOS, until I'm happy all of the stuff is gone, then I can scrub the Windows partition and claim the space for CentOS.
So, I've downloaded and burned the DVD and tried to install. I start the install with no args from the main install menu, and the process goes through some probing and then comes up with the "Welcome to CentOS" menu. I go through this, and then it tries to start X Server. It fails, and falls back to text mode. I get the "Welcome to CentOS" screen again, and then proceed through it. I set my keyboard layout to UK, then this message comes up at the bottom of the screen:
"_X11TransSocketINETConnect() can't get address for localhost:6001: Temporary failure in name resolution"
then on the next line: "Cannot open display :1" If I force the install to text, by typing "linux text" at the first menu, I get about the same way through, but the install just hangs doing nothing, and no disc access to the install disc.
I have an error message at updating centos 5 x64.

- System seems to randomly hang, at which it becomes unavailable on the network (can't be pinged, monitor won't come back on, and you can't wake it up... have to reboot, the scroll lock and caps lock keys flash at the same time)
- Received this error message...

After I installed the "GNOME Software Development" group with yum, I couldn,t log into the Gnome desktop. An error message says "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. log out and try again", and it repeated every time I tried to log in. I created a file "gnome-shell.desktop" in the ~/.config/autostart directory, the error message no longer appears, but I get only a wallpaper which means no top bar or else. The file's content is as follows:

When i shutdown my SuSE 11.2 box with all current updates i have started to notice an error message.Something about failed to unmount, trying remount as read only or something like that.The trouble is its almost the very last message that appears and its not on the screen long enough to read properly.Somewhere is there a logfile that i can recover this error message from so that i can make some sort of an attempt to resolve the issue, post the whole message here in more detail?

device removed: /freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_80_00_60_0f_e8_00
Other times it is bunch of errors saying something like:
i/o error/end request/dev/sector ****, with all different sector numbers..
These happens even when I have not installed anything, not using any flash drives etc...
the power on my street went out overnight, and I came home to a rebooted computer at the command line. I shut it down and rebooted again, also tried the failsafe mode, but it keeps going to the command line. Looked in the BIOS and it didn't see my hard drive settings. But I can see the HD fine when I booted using the live CD (that's how I am able to post here
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter CentOS5.3 install to /sdb7 partition (on 2nd HD) and using Ubuntu Grub(on 1st HD mbr) to boot CentOS, I get "memory for crash kernel 0x0 to 0x0 not within permissible range" as soon as CentOS starts. I have 2G of ram. The message is on every boot. I've had several other linuxes on that partition without such an error message. Otherwise the OS starts fine. Is the message of concern/import?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu 10.04 although everything works fine I have a problem related to sound, When I click Preferences/Sound I get the message "waiting for sound system to respond" and actually it does not respond at all. Although, I have downloaded, compiled and installed linux drivers from realtek website it did not fix the problem. internet which is simply deleting .pulse folder and restarting it didnt work either.At the moment I am using terminal alsamixer for controlling sound level but even the maximum attainable volume is too low.

The caption of the error is 'No root file system' and the message itself says 'No root file system is defined.Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I enclose a screenshot of this. I had also problems with booting Ubuntu and Windows after installing Ubuntu to an external hard disk so I probably have to also create a new boot menu (may be it is differently called, 'grub' possibly, I am not really sure).

The problem is when they are trying to copy any files and directories they are getting the following error: "Message reported from the file system: FTP copy not supported,use move instead"
I've checked all the permissions and they are all OK. I don't know why this is happening. they can create and move files and folders but can't copy files and folders.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHad 3 partitions on a hard disk. Booted vista & deleted the windows 7 partition & then expanded the vista partition into the windows 7 partition. Vista kept working but when i rebooted grub starts to load & gets an error 17. How do i recover?
Previously grub would come up & give me the choice of ubuntu or vista. If i selected vista i got the choice of vista or windows 7.
my iwlist scan is normal. ethernet connection ok, wirless not working but does seem to receive. wifi radar lists my router ssid. Does this say I have the correct router for my wireless is my question? I am also getting this error message with this system on KDE, LENNY. From KWLAN a wpasupplicant front end.

How to resolve the above error message
I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.
I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.
I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.
I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.
The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.
We have made a fresh installation on DL 580 G 5 Server. The installation Completes successfully. When we reboot the server we find an error message " Logical Drive Disable due to Possible Data Loss. and then non system disk or disk error.
Due to this we have lost all of the data. We can successfully install Windows Server 2008 or 2003 or Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 on this server with no error no issue.we can successfully install Windows Server 2008, 2003 or RedHat Enterprise on RAID 5 or RAID 6 Or RAID 1 or RAID 1+0. we dont face any issue on these windows or linux platforms.We are only facing RAID Controller Issue on CentOS 5
Just curious if there is any sort of issues with Ubuntu and JBOD assignments. I had my 2 500GB hdd's as JBOD through my mobo BIOS/RAID Config and it didn't like it. It installed just fine and showed the hard drives separately. I really didn't think anything of it so I continued on.After the install completed successfully, and I rebooted the system, it came to a blank screen with a blinking cursor and wouldn't continue on. So I tried restarting a few times, no luck. Finally I was like "okay screw this, going to install with no RAID setup or JBOD setup." (had RAID issues last night. rabble rabble) Removed RAID configurations and BAM started right up..S. Semi-new to Linux/Ubuntu. Know the basics and what not, just not some of the more advanced stuff.Edit: Okay, so I restarted my computer and removed my USB drive (which I had installed Ubuntu from) and it didn't boot. So it was NOT an issue with JBOD. Guess I'll look for a resolution for that, though.

The upgrade manager prompted me to install about 170MB or so of upgrades. I chose to install everything and then rebooted. Upon rebooting I received an error (sorry but didn't record it).
I rebooted by ctrl-alt-delete and then got the error: error: unknown filesystem grub rescue.
How do I get back my installation?
When reinstalling ubuntu 10.04, I get an error message that reads "the ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI3 (0,0,0) (sda) failled.

When I try to do this, I come to an 'allocate drive space' window, but whatever I do I get the error message: 'No root file system is defined. Please correct this from the partitioning menu.' I just don't know what this means, or what to do next. I'm loathe to ditch windows, and I don't want to have to use a flashdrive all the time.
