Ubuntu Installation :: Update -network Service Discovery Disabled?
Jan 2, 2010
When I ran updates and installed 9.10, this message appeared, "Network service discovery disabled. Your current network has a .local domain, which is not recommended and incompatible with the Avahi network service discovery. The service has been disabled." The computer will not respond to anything, completely frozen--I am not able to open any programs and the CPU itself seems to be running loudly.
Just bought new laptop i7 with broadcom wireless, intalled opensuse 11.3 x64. I had major trouble to make it work... Even compiled kernel 2.6.37-rc6, but didnt go.Then I took drivers and firmware from git repositories, compiled, did what it was necessary and I made it work. This morning, (since system was new), I just did zypper upgrade (nothing new installed from default installation, I just added packman to repos). And, now wireless is not working. In network manager, option "enable wireless" is disabled.I went to YaST, put network on ifup, it did scan networks, but cant make it work either. Turned it back to network manager, but same thing.Module brcm80211 is loaded, but I cannot make wireless work.
i just installed frox ftp proxy for my server using apt-get install frox.after i installed it i did 'sudo /ietc/init.d/frox start" and got t this "starting frox:caching ftp proxy server: disabled"
I have recently installed Lubuntu 11.04 on an old system. the problem is that it hangs at startup when tries to "Starting Bluetooth". I have searched through this forum and the web and it seems that the problem has something to do with my TV Card. But I can't remove the card because it is a part of my Graphic Card which is an "ATI Radeon 8500DV All In Wonder". I can start the machine with Lubuntu Live CD, and so I thought that maybe I can change a value in a file from installed Lubuntu through Live session that makes the Bluetooth Service disabled at startup.
I'm using fedora 13 x86_64 on amd machine. I use usb bluetooth dongle. The bluetooth service doesn't start at all. When I click on bluetooth icon-preferences-turn bluetooth on, after some time it says, bluetooth is disabled. What should I do to enable bluetooth?
I tried connect to internet through iPhone (bluetooth tether), so I followed one tutorial... It said I have to change "networkmanager" to "ifup" in yast>network settings, and make some other changes... I did it, but I couldn't connect via iphone... OK... I put back all changes, also changed ifpu to networkmanager.
After reboot, Knetowrkmanager gives me "network management disabled" on startup, instead of list of my networks.
Of course, I google for solution, but without any luck. And then, I don't know why, I killed Knetworkmanager, start it again, and.. it worked!
But now, I have to kill it, and start again always, when I reboot my laptop...(HP Compaq 6720s, BCM4312, KDE 4.3.4)
I have an Asus EeePc 1001PX and on resume I have "Network Management disabled", neither wired nor wireless interface can be configured, the NM icon is greyed out. running ifconfig shows eth0 and wlan0 have disappeared completely.
I found 2 options: 1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/555571 2. Network management disabled after start on 11.2 - openSUSE Forums
but I don't have the /var/lib/NetworkManager folder at all
I applied the latest updates today and when I rebooted, My wireless broadcom driver is not working and the ifconfig does not list it either anymore, was working 8 min ago but is now dead. If I turn off the wireless with a switch and back on, I get a blue light but it remains disabled and greyed out on the network icon. Ubuntu 10.04, latest updates applied daily. I removed the driver and reinstalled it, it did not help at all. Also, my Truecryt gdecrypt stopped working.
Update: it seems the wireless switch on the front of the laptop is now working backwards, in checking the daemon log I found Turning off the wifi so the light goes out:
Oct 2 20:09:18 chuck-laptop NetworkManager: <info> WiFi now enabled by radio killswitch Oct 2 20:09:18 chuck-laptop NetworkManager: <info> (eth1): bringing up device. Oct 2 20:09:18 chuck-laptop NetworkManager: <info> (eth1): supplicant interface state: starting -> ready
[code]...
Update, I found that if I boot the laptop up with the networking switch off, then, after I'm booted up, turn it on, it works. However if I reboot the laptop with the network switch in the on position I get the above issue with the switch being inverted and not working properly.
I just want to know one thing. I had stop the network service in ubuntu, still i can able to ping google.com.what u think might be things to consider. these are the outputs see.
I just updated my server, (Ubuntu 8.04) and had to restart. Now I can no longer SSH into my Linux box or access my website from the internet. Apache is running and everything worked fine before the restart.
i ran yum update which updated kernel to 2.6.31.9.174.fc12.i686.PAE. Now after logging in i get a blank white screen. With previous kernel updates i have had no such problem. Anyway, the boot messages are following:
Quote:
checking for module nvidia.ko [FAILED] nvidia.ko for kernel 2.6.31.9-174.fc12.i686.PAE was not found [WARNING] The nvidia driver will not be enabled until one is found [WARNING] Driver already disabled
Running 10.04, just installed a ton of updates from Update manager.Printer is HP Officejet 6210Everything working fine up until after installing updatesWhen I try to print I get error message. Starting to troubleshoot tells me that CUPS service is not running, when I try to locate using http://localhost:631/ I cannot connect.Checking Synaptic it seems everything is installed that should be
I was away from Ubuntu for a long time - since the breezy badger days. Anyway I'm trying to get back, I tried installing 9.4, it failed miserably; both standard and alternative. 10.4 installed fine, but I'm having trouble with wirless. Long story short network is disabled. No wireless networks show up. B43 driver is installed and the pci wireless is communicating with Kernel. I would copy paste, but I have no access to internet on that computer. Also 'sudo apt=get' is not beneficial when you have no internet. I'm happy to transfer from packages.ubuntu though. Left clicking and disabling /reenabling has left me with device not ready, and a driver warning to get B43 driver. I had that already but I guess I'm going backwards now.
What happened:- I run out of battery (laptop)- I believe Kubuntu tried to suspend to disk, but that failed, the system froze- after reboot the system tray applet just told "network manager disabled" How do I fix this ??.. I tried but after entering the second line of code it says no such file/directory exist...
Code: service network-manager stop rm /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state
I have installed Ubuntu Lynx 64 bit on my dell latitude e6410 with nvidia graphics. I have it running smooth thanks to the posts in this forums. today I was downloading a file and I ran out of battery (my laptop shutdown) I plug it to the charger, and know My network connection is disabled. How can i re enable my network connection?
I am running Ubuntu 10.10, and the icon for my wireless connection says it is disabled. Although my Wireless USB Adp.How do I get to enable the network icon????
I'm usually on 8.04, which I like to keep up to date. This morning, after downloading and installing the latest automatic update, the system refuses to recognise that I have any kind of network connection. I know it's not the hardware, as I'm reporting this on the same machine booted as something else. Is it possible to 'undo' recent updates ? and, if so, how ?
I have a working wireless connection on OpenSuSE11.2 but after installing the KDE network manager, clicking on its icon only gives this message: "Network Management Disabled"
i resently bought HCL ME with windows, i formatted and installed Ubuntu netbook version. i am getting wifi is not connection it looks disabled in network place. my network controller is Realtek semiconductor co., ltd rtl8191sevb rev 10, i am unable to get this driver to install can anyone help me ?
I am working on ubuntu 10.10 in a VM. I went ahead and did updated the system when prompted. That has disabled my wired network connection. I am not sure what is the reason. If it is a device driver or any network service. I guess device driver is not an issue as I can detect my network card from ubuntu. Does any one know the solution?
1. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.
2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)
I discovered these after spending hours following up suggestions on these forums. They might not solve everyone's problems but they will hopefully save some of you from fruitless searching
i would like to know if i can upgrade my ubuntu 9.04(remastered) to 9.10 by using the ubuntu 9.10 desktop edition cd ? i have a slow internet connection and so cant use the network update option..
I installed 10.04 yesterday. The computer had an MS OS on it but I chose to format the entire HD for Ubuntu. The install seemed to go fine. When logged in there were updates available, and I installed all of them. After a reboot I tried getting on the internet and found that my network was 'disconnected'. I've checked the cabling, and that the LAN is still enabled in the BIOS. I assume the network had to have been functioning to do the original update. How do I figure out what changed. I've been reading the network section of a Linux book and came up with a little data that might help. My hardware is listed after the host file.
$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr e0:cb:4c:b6:6b:d6 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
I set up a static IPv6 address and a gateway in /etc/network/interfaces. However, a bad router in my network environment alway send wrong ICMP router discovery messages to me. So I have got extra (wrong) IPv6 address and gateway, and the routing is confused. On Windows Servers, I can use "netsh interface ipv6 set interface "Local Area Connection" routerdiscovery=disable" to disable ICMP router discovery. But I don't know how to disable it on Ubuntu 9.10. How could I disable ICMP router discovery for IPv6?
