Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 LTS - Couldn't Turn Off Or Reset My Computer Using The Power Buttons

Aug 20, 2010

It seems that the updgrade that I made in my ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 turned to be a downgrade... I am having some glitches here!

First, started off that I couldn't turn off or reset my computer using the power buttons, it simply logs out.

I found a similar problem in a thread and I got this solution:

Code:

Then I forced it to shut off with the command: sudo poweroff

When I turned it on again my icons like Trash bin, Netowrk meter, Keyboard layout have disappeared from my panels...

And it doesn't shut off anymore (it did for a couple times only).

OpenSUSE Network :: Cannot Use Network Manager After Hard Reset

Jul 19, 2010

I upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3 and works great except two problems.

1. it was installed on Thinkpad W500, and its sleep mode doesn't work, the computer cannot wake up from sleep mode.

2. After a hard reset due to stuck at sleep mode, the KDE network manager couldn't find any network interface anymore, even I tired to disable and enable "user Controlled with NetworkManager in Network Settings, still same problem. it always say "network management disabled" regardless the network manager checkbox status in Network Settings. On the other hand, Traditional Method with ifup can detect the my wireless and ethernet ports and work under ifup method.

so does anyone has idea about
1. how to configure the sleep mode for laptop?
2. how to bring back the network manager again? (I have "user controlled with network manager" checked in network settings.

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Management Disabled After Start On 11.2

Dec 19, 2009

I tried connect to internet through iPhone (bluetooth tether), so I followed one tutorial... It said I have to change "networkmanager" to "ifup" in yast>network settings, and make some other changes... I did it, but I couldn't connect via iphone... OK... I put back all changes, also changed ifpu to networkmanager.

After reboot, Knetowrkmanager gives me "network management disabled" on startup, instead of list of my networks.

Of course, I google for solution, but without any luck. And then, I don't know why, I killed Knetworkmanager, start it again, and.. it worked!

But now, I have to kill it, and start again always, when I reboot my laptop...(HP Compaq 6720s, BCM4312, KDE 4.3.4)

Ubuntu Networking :: Reset Network Manager To Default?

Oct 23, 2010

I seem to have somehow mangled my my Ethernet and wireless's connection to the outside world on my Ubuntu 10.04.1 machine. I was trying to get a static local IP, and that worked great for a few days, until I lost all Internet access completely. However, I can connect to my router on my wired connection - but not the wireless.

You can see what I did here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1600784

Now, I just want everything to work as it did when I installed Ubuntu 2 months ago. How can I reset Network manager back so that it just works? I realise that don't need a static IP, it can only be 2 IPs, as I have 2 PCs only.

Or is there some better way to manage my networks? I'm not the best when it comes to those.

Ubuntu :: 10.4 - Network Disabled Broadcom 3418

Apr 24, 2010

I was away from Ubuntu for a long time - since the breezy badger days. Anyway I'm trying to get back, I tried installing 9.4, it failed miserably; both standard and alternative. 10.4 installed fine, but I'm having trouble with wirless. Long story short network is disabled. No wireless networks show up. B43 driver is installed and the pci wireless is communicating with Kernel. I would copy paste, but I have no access to internet on that computer. Also 'sudo apt=get' is not beneficial when you have no internet. I'm happy to transfer from packages.ubuntu though. Left clicking and disabling /reenabling has left me with device not ready, and a driver warning to get B43 driver. I had that already but I guess I'm going backwards now.

Ubuntu Networking :: Reset Network COnfiguration And Default Ports?

Jun 25, 2010

The other day I was using BitTornado and it was running so slow it was almost unholy. After some research I found out that if the yellow light was on it means I couldn't receive any incoming connections and had to open some ports on the firewall. That, my friends, is not the problem. I tried to manually open up the bittorrent port and did some other things that I can't quite remember but eventually I accidentally killed all bittorrent functionality on my laptop.

Is there any way I can reset my network and ports back to the default settings or am I utterly screwed? I'd really prefer not to have to reinstall my whole OS just to fix my bittorrent or worse, have to download on Vista *shudders*. I'd rather go back to my uber-slow bittorrent than none at all. I've tried everything I can think of, even the godlike might of Google couldn't get me out of this one. Now I am forced to bother you, all because I wanted to see a damn sci-fi film from Switzerland (Cargo[2009]).

I am working on ubuntu 10.10 in a VM. I went ahead and did updated the system when prompted. That has disabled my wired network connection. I am not sure what is the reason. If it is a device driver or any network service. I guess device driver is not an issue as I can detect my network card from ubuntu.
Does any one know the solution?

General :: Ubuntu Wireless Network Card Disabled

Dec 27, 2010

1. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.

2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)

I discovered these after spending hours following up suggestions on these forums. They might not solve everyone's problems but they will hopefully save some of you from fruitless searching

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Is Visible But Disabled - How To Connect

Jul 23, 2010

I have a weird problem that I can't find the answer for in the forums or docs. I can see the wireless network in Network Manager, but it is grayed-out and inaccessible. Other wireless networks are white and I can click on them and connect to them (or could if I knew the password).

My work computer, an IBM ThinkPad T43 running Win 7, connects.
My personal computer, a Dell Latitude C640 running Ubuntu 10.04, sees the network as grayed-out and therefore I have no option to connect to it.

I have tried the following:Checked for hardware drivers - the system says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"
Verified that the network security settings are the same on both my work and personal computers: WPA2-Personal
Why can I see the network but it is disabled/grayed-out?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager - System Connection Is Disabled

- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".

I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.

OpenSUSE Network :: Wireless Disabled After Update?

Even compiled kernel 2.6.37-rc6, but didnt go.Then I took drivers and firmware from git repositories, compiled, did what it was necessary and I made it work. This morning, (since system was new), I just did zypper upgrade (nothing new installed from default installation, I just added packman to repos). And, now wireless is not working. In network manager, option "enable wireless" is disabled.I went to YaST, put network on ifup, it did scan networks, but cant make it work either. Turned it back to network manager, but same thing.Module brcm80211 is loaded, but I cannot make wireless work.
