View 1 RepliesWhen I ran updates and installed 9.10, this message appeared, "Network service discovery disabled. Your current network has a .local domain, which is not recommended and incompatible with the Avahi network service discovery. The service has been disabled." The computer will not respond to anything, completely frozen--I am not able to open any programs and the CPU itself seems to be running loudly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Lubuntu 11.04 on an old system. the problem is that it hangs at startup when tries to "Starting Bluetooth". I have searched through this forum and the web and it seems that the problem has something to do with my TV Card. But I can't remove the card because it is a part of my Graphic Card which is an "ATI Radeon 8500DV All In Wonder". I can start the machine with Lubuntu Live CD, and so I thought that maybe I can change a value in a file from installed Lubuntu through Live session that makes the Bluetooth Service disabled at startup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried connect to internet through iPhone (bluetooth tether), so I followed one tutorial... It said I have to change "networkmanager" to "ifup" in yast>network settings, and make some other changes... I did it, but I couldn't connect via iphone... OK... I put back all changes, also changed ifpu to networkmanager.
After reboot, Knetowrkmanager gives me "network management disabled" on startup, instead of list of my networks.
Of course, I google for solution, but without any luck. And then, I don't know why, I killed Knetworkmanager, start it again, and.. it worked!
But now, I have to kill it, and start again always, when I reboot my laptop...(HP Compaq 6720s, BCM4312, KDE 4.3.4)
I have an Asus EeePc 1001PX and on resume I have "Network Management disabled", neither wired nor wireless interface can be configured, the NM icon is greyed out. running ifconfig shows eth0 and wlan0 have disappeared completely.
I found 2 options:
1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/555571
2. Network management disabled after start on 11.2 - openSUSE Forums
but I don't have the /var/lib/NetworkManager folder at all
I just want to know one thing. I had stop the network service in ubuntu, still i can able to ping google.com.what u think might be things to consider. these are the outputs see.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was away from Ubuntu for a long time - since the breezy badger days. Anyway I'm trying to get back, I tried installing 9.4, it failed miserably; both standard and alternative. 10.4 installed fine, but I'm having trouble with wirless. Long story short network is disabled. No wireless networks show up. B43 driver is installed and the pci wireless is communicating with Kernel. I would copy paste, but I have no access to internet on that computer. Also 'sudo apt=get' is not beneficial when you have no internet. I'm happy to transfer from packages.ubuntu though. Left clicking and disabling /reenabling has left me with device not ready, and a driver warning to get B43 driver. I had that already but I guess I'm going backwards now.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on ubuntu 10.10 in a VM. I went ahead and did updated the system when prompted. That has disabled my wired network connection. I am not sure what is the reason. If it is a device driver or any network service. I guess device driver is not an issue as I can detect my network card from ubuntu.
Does any one know the solution?
1. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.
2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)
I discovered these after spending hours following up suggestions on these forums. They might not solve everyone's problems but they will hopefully save some of you from fruitless searching
I set up a static IPv6 address and a gateway in /etc/network/interfaces. However, a bad router in my network environment alway send wrong ICMP router discovery messages to me. So I have got extra (wrong) IPv6 address and gateway, and the routing is confused. On Windows Servers, I can use "netsh interface ipv6 set interface "Local Area Connection" routerdiscovery=disable" to disable ICMP router discovery. But I don't know how to disable it on Ubuntu 9.10. How could I disable ICMP router discovery for IPv6?

two IP Addresses for it

Is there a way to disable ping in the network instead ping of IP addresses must be hostname or a name.

Wireless network card is showing as "disabled"...How can I enable it through Ubuntu?
product: BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller
*-network DISABLED
I just installed ubuntu on my d620.The wireless card seems to exist and looks fine but I don't know how to turn it on.It says the network is disabled everywhere I look but I can't find the option to turn it on.I know this is probably simple. Below is the output from various commands.I included my service tag which you can use on the dell site to find specifics about my hardware.I can't do ifconfig wlan0 up which is the only solution I've found online so far.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem that I can't find the answer for in the forums or docs. I can see the wireless network in Network Manager, but it is grayed-out and inaccessible. Other wireless networks are white and I can click on them and connect to them (or could if I knew the password).
My work computer, an IBM ThinkPad T43 running Win 7, connects.
My personal computer, a Dell Latitude C640 running Ubuntu 10.04, sees the network as grayed-out and therefore I have no option to connect to it.
I have tried the following:Checked for hardware drivers - the system says "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"
Verified that the network security settings are the same on both my work and personal computers: WPA2-Personal
Why can I see the network but it is disabled/grayed-out?
I accidentally removed the dhclient3 file. I had ran chkrootkit and it said it was a possible suspicious file. Once I rebooted, the network was disabled. I am running off the Ubuntu cd by choosing trial. How can I get dhclient3 back onto my installed Ubuntu?
