OpenSUSE Network :: Network Management Disabled After Start On 11.2

Dec 19, 2009

I tried connect to internet through iPhone (bluetooth tether), so I followed one tutorial... It said I have to change "networkmanager" to "ifup" in yast>network settings, and make some other changes... I did it, but I couldn't connect via iphone... OK... I put back all changes, also changed ifpu to networkmanager.

After reboot, Knetowrkmanager gives me "network management disabled" on startup, instead of list of my networks.

Of course, I google for solution, but without any luck. And then, I don't know why, I killed Knetworkmanager, start it again, and.. it worked!

But now, I have to kill it, and start again always, when I reboot my laptop...(HP Compaq 6720s, BCM4312, KDE 4.3.4)

I have an Asus EeePc 1001PX and on resume I have "Network Management disabled", neither wired nor wireless interface can be configured, the NM icon is greyed out. running ifconfig shows eth0 and wlan0 have disappeared completely.

I found 2 options:
1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/555571
2. Network management disabled after start on 11.2 - openSUSE Forums

but I don't have the /var/lib/NetworkManager folder at all

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Management Disabled After Freeze?

Aug 18, 2010

I just switched to opensuse from fedora. So far, I like it a lot (KDE FTW). However, I am having a couple issues concerning hibernation and restarting.Whenever I merely close my computer but don't shut it off, I am forced to reboot. When I open the computer after closing it, everything stays black and nothing seems to work aside from a restart (no good, I know). When I restart, network management is disabled and thus I am prevented from accessing wireless. The only solution I have found is to hibernate, which for some reason fixes the problem. A restart however does nothing. So I guess I have two questions:1) Why can't I close my computer without turning it off?2) Is there a more permanent solution aside from merely hibernating after a crash that will fix network manager

OpenSUSE Network :: Susie 11.4 Network Manager Doesnt Start At Bootup

May 22, 2011

I am using an Acer Aspire 5536 AMD dual core laptop with a 64bit installation of Susie 11.4. Using 11.2 I had no problems connecting to the wireless router. As soon as 11.4 was installed, clean install, and the laptop rebooted, network manager failed to start, until manually invoked and then enabling networking through the system tray. Even after this it will not connect to a wired or wireless network sometimes for more than 30 minutes.

I can get my ethernet connection working through YAST... but I *really* need the wireless to work as well... so can somebody *please* tell me why KNM is being so stupid, and how I can fix it? OpenSUSE Network :: Wireless Disabled After Update?

Dec 18, 2010

Just bought new laptop i7 with broadcom wireless, intalled opensuse 11.3 x64. I had major trouble to make it work... Even compiled kernel 2.6.37-rc6, but didnt go.Then I took drivers and firmware from git repositories, compiled, did what it was necessary and I made it work. This morning, (since system was new), I just did zypper upgrade (nothing new installed from default installation, I just added packman to repos). And, now wireless is not working. In network manager, option "enable wireless" is disabled.I went to YaST, put network on ifup, it did scan networks, but cant make it work either. Turned it back to network manager, but same thing.Module brcm80211 is loaded, but I cannot make wireless work.

But I brought it with me to work without connecting it to a wi-fi and now the network manager doesn't want to start when I'm back in range of my home connection. Also, whenever I try to launch KNetworkManager, it won't load up a window and I still can't connect. This is even disabling the Ethernet port also.

OpenSUSE Network :: Get NIS Settings Back Into YaST "User And Group Management"?

Jan 18, 2011

After a disastrous foray into LDAP I restored NIS on a very simple network run by a very simple operator. Everything now works except for YaST on the NIS master. I can't manage NIS users in YaST any more. The option 'show NIS users' is now absent from the 'filter' button up in YaST "User and Group Management" So, after following the YaST route to LDAP there seems no way back...

These are OpenSUSE 11.3 boxes and the slave NIS server can't [obviously enough] delete expired NIS users on the master, although it sees them fine. Disabling or changing NIS server or client on the Master simply restores the 'wrong' settings - nothing is erased or cleaned. How do I clean up NIS controls so YaST sees it properly? or What do I need to do to restore NIS group & user control to YaST?

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Start NetworkManager

Jan 26, 2011

I seem to have somehow messed up my repositories and now NetworkManager isn't working.

I have two errors happening, which I'm sure are related. First of all, when I try to load knetworkmanager, I get the error:

Code:
knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkminterminals.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Second of all, when I restart my computer, upon loading I get a message from Akondi Server Self-Test saying several databases failed. I've never seen this before, so I think fixing these errors would be best? Some of the errors are MySql failed, akondi not registered at dbus, etc.

Lastly, I don't have a wired connection so currently my machine has no internet. I'm using a second laptop to get necessary files and I transfer them with usb.

OpenSUSE Network :: Automatically Start Knetworkmanager?

Oct 14, 2009

I'm configuring a computer for someone and I don't know the wireless network they will be using. (They are not technical.) I've setup networking to use NetworkManager. It works just fine. However, Knetworkmanager won't startup at boot/login. Therefore, the network doesn't startup automatically. I have to click on the icon in the menu to start it.That works well, but it should be configurable to startup automatically.I've searched this forum for answers and don't find any good ones. It seems there isn't an answer or there is a bug in KDE 4.x. (I'm using KDE 4.3.x)

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Get Squid To Start Automatically

Mar 25, 2010

I have just installed squid and sarg, both are working well. I cannot get squid to start when the machine boots. I installed webmin and configured the setup through the webmin interface where I checked the "start at boot option". I think the problem is that my network card responsible for the web connection is wireless so when squid tries to load during boot it is trying before the Wireless card is up and so it fails. I have tried multiple methods of adding a script to the "dispatcher.d" folder in "NetworkManager" to load squid after wlan0 is up but all have failed to bring up the squid proxy without my interaction. I have not found any two sites that describe the syntax for "dispatcher.d" alike so I may have the command wrong but I have no what to do.
