Ubuntu :: How To Make Bluetooth Service Disabled At Startup
Jun 5, 2011
I have recently installed Lubuntu 11.04 on an old system. the problem is that it hangs at startup when tries to "Starting Bluetooth". I have searched through this forum and the web and it seems that the problem has something to do with my TV Card. But I can't remove the card because it is a part of my Graphic Card which is an "ATI Radeon 8500DV All In Wonder". I can start the machine with Lubuntu Live CD, and so I thought that maybe I can change a value in a file from installed Lubuntu through Live session that makes the Bluetooth Service disabled at startup.

I have been unable to use Bluetooth since I did a clean install of 10.10. It worked before, so I know I have the hardware.
The default manager has a button to turn on bluetooth, but it doesn't do anything. I downloaded Blueman but get a message that "Bluez daemon is not running, blue-man manager cannot continue."
I've tried a few different inquiries, but I'm not sure what they mean:

So I have been trying to connect my Wiimote up to my PC using the following HOWTO: [URL]... I had it working last week and for some reason it has now stopped working. I am using a USB Bluetooth dongle and I am sure that it is still working because I can connect the Wiimote up to my laptop no problem. What I have noticed is that on my Laptop the bluetooth icon is highlighted and on my PC although the Icon is there it is greyed out. When I go to preferences and click on turn on Bluetooth the button greys out for a while and then comes back saying "Turn Bluetooth on" again.

I'm new to ubuntu. Recently installed 10.10 on my dell inspiron 1546. The bluetooth does not seem to be working. In the bluetooth preferences window it says "bluetooth is disabled" and pressing the "turn on bluetooth" does nothing.
lsusb shows nothing.
hciconfig -a shows nothing.
Bluetooth is enabled and working in windows 7 with up to date drivers.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed on a Dell Desktop with a USB Bluetooth dongle.
I have a bluetooth device, whose security is based upon searching not for the bluetooth service name but a renamed bluetooth service. The device comes with instructions on how to do it with a small subset of Windows XP machines but I feel like this should be a simple thing to do here.
Is there a simple way to either add an extra bluetooth service on a different name? Change the current bluetooth name? Ubuntu has a wiki that led me to the bluetooth preferences window and a services tab but that doesn't seem to exist in 10.04.
where to go in GUI or command line tools that will help with this?

When I ran updates and installed 9.10, this message appeared, "Network service discovery disabled. Your current network has a .local domain, which is not recommended and incompatible with the Avahi network service discovery. The service has been disabled." The computer will not respond to anything, completely frozen--I am not able to open any programs and the CPU itself seems to be running loudly.

I have a MS bluethooth keyboard/mouse, and a USB bluetooth dongle
In 10.1 I can add both with no problems - but I have to explicitly tell ubuntu to connect to the devices at each machine reboot, which means plugging in a wired mouse first
Does anyone know how I can set the machine to connect automatically at every startup to both my keyboard and my mouse? I found a set of instructions here:
[URL]
But it is from 2007 and I'm not sure its still correct?

I've a custom startup script myscript.sh placed inside /etc/init.d/ directory with below lines to disable usb bluetooth device "hci0". This happens on Ubuntu Lucid.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo "Disabling hci0 bluetooth usb dongle"
/usr/sbin/hciconfig hci0 down &
Here is the /var/log/daemon.log
When I rebooted it worked fine disabling the bluetooth dongle. But, later on, it gets enabled! I've lost it!
Code:
May 15 00:20:02 linbox bluetoothd[1539]: probe failed with driver input-headset for device /org/bluez/1537/hci0/dev_00_1F_DE_FE_7C_34

I'm not used to using Ubuntu or Debian as a server. I'm more accustomed to Red Hat/Fedora ways and even Gentoo (yikes).
Under Red Hat installs, you can often configure most services that start from init using config files in /etc/sysconfig named by the service. Is there and equivalent thing under Ubuntu?
Specically I'm trying to control how the libvirtd and kvm processes are started as far as command line options go. I need to add the --listen option somewhere.

I want to start a service and a script SiteMonitor.sh at startup.
Here is brief working of SiteMonitor.sh(This script monitors the ip addresses of machines which are using http service of the host. This script checks this after every 5 seconds therefore i have run it at background.)
To start with i have modified /etc/rc.local file.
Here is the content of my /etc/rc.local file.
Code:
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

I found a way to capture emails sent from my Drupal installation, and Fakemail seems simple enough. I can follow the tutorial. Since the application Fakemail needs to be running to capture the outgoing emails, it seems like a good candidate for xinetd, yes? I've found a simple config tutorial describing starting the service and what the parameters are for the service-specific configuration files. This got me this far,
Code:
# default: on
# description: This is a script to start the Sandbox app "fakemail"
service fakemail
[code]....
But the service is not starting up. Will someone help me with this config file? Or, recommend another application which uses a similar configuration like Sendmail so I can copy this The Fakemail application/service is started from command line like so,
# fakemail.py --host=localhost --port=10025 --path=[path_to_email_textfile]

Im trying to get a Bluetooth USB dongle work but I cant.
Bluetooth Preferences doesnt recognise it and bluetooth manager gives me this error "Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.". See attached captures.
I already tried many solutions proposed in other threads with no luck. I reinstalled their packages and it keeps the same.
I'm using 10.10 upgraded from 10.04. With 10.04 I had the same issue.

I really enjoy using both ubuntu and fedora. I am finding that I am in some ways perfering fedora over ubuntu, but think that the look and feel of fedora is awful. Basically I would like to make fedora 14 look exactly like Ubuntu (11.04) with unity disabled so technically it is gnome 2.32.1 I really like the "unity-icon-theme" ubuntu offers, as well as the Ubuntu-Mono-Dark
now in ubuntu say I wanted to download the unity icon theme, I would type in:
sudo apt-get install unity-icon-theme and it takes care of the rest by itself,
now in fedora I type: sudo yum install unity-icon-theme Of course it does not work, how would I manually go about copying the unity-icon-theme and or Ubuntu-Mono-Dark theme from Ubuntu over to fedora? I am unsure if "Controls" and "Windows Borders" use the same method, but I would also like to manually copy and enable them in fedora. So the end result is a Fedora box looking exactly like a Ubuntu box?
