Is it possible to tweak 11.04 to show the old toolbar at the top of the desktop page? If I want to put apps on the desktop how do I do that from the apps page?
View 1 RepliesI have been running Gnome 3 for a few days now and really like it, but need to tweak it to my liking, basically to an overall darker theme. Something similar to this is what I am shooting for: I have figured out how to do the shell themes (top bar, dock, etc) but I am having problems with the window manager themes (window title bars, window backgrounds, etc). Using the Gnome-Tweak_Tool, I can apply the pre-installed ones, but I am at a loss as to how I add new ones. I have tried adding themes to ~/.themes, and /usr/share/gnome-shell/themes, but I am unable to get them to show up to be usable in the tweak tool. I am comfortable using the command line and/or editing configuration files if that is the only way.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi have just done something silly. I have Xubuntu installed and i opened Window Desktop Tweak i think and stupidly i enabled Composting and slid all the sliders the wrong way and now i cant see any of my windows .
What do i do or how can i correct this as i cant see anything ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.
It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.
I had no problems upgrading from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx and all data/documents were preserved. However my DVD player does not show up on the desktop when a DVD is put in and Movie Player won't play.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from 10.10 netbook edition to 11.04 and something went wrong. After the grub menu I get the password window on that typical magenta screen with lights. Afterwards I get a message, that the netbook connected to the internet, but the Unity desktop doesnt show. Still the magenta desktop without anything. Already have tried to select the previous linux edition on the grub-menu, but no change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just installed an Ubuntu 9.04 to a Lenovo N500 laptop and as the default user (ie with root privileges) I have installed Flash 10 using dpkg -i install_flash..10.deb and delicious toolbar using Firefox internal add-on system.
Later I've created a "desktop user" and logged in as a desktop user. In Firefox, Flash 10 is ok, (e.g. UTube is functional) but there's no delicious toolbar in any way!
How to bring back delicious in desktop user? Could it be something to do with file permissions?
I want to put a photo slide show in a web page I am creating. What is my best option? Want open source. I know CSS and HTML but am not a programmer. Need something fairly easy to install.

View 12 Replies View Relatedi am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.

Users then can browse to their site by going to[URL],,.How can I get apache to show a different or default page if the user does not have a index.html file in their public_html folder. Cause if they dont, you get a 401 saying you dont have permissions to view, etc. So id like apache to default to something else if the user doesnt have a index.html.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving logged in (to Fedora 11) with a terminal session, what command do I give to spawn the Gnome GUI desktop environment? Background: I'm running two Fedora boxes: one local, and one at the other end of my building (on fast LAN). I have full control/ownership of both boxes.
On the local box, I log-in to my vanilla F11 build, and I get the Gnome GUI automatically. Then I can open a terminal window, 'ssh -X -l myself remotebox; cinelerra' to run Cinelerra nicely in local desktop windows.
But sometimes I want to see my typical user desktop for the remote box. Now, IF the remote box is ALREADY running Gnome, I can VNC to it, etc. But, once having logged-out of the remote box, VNC closes and won't show me a GUI login page. (BTW: The remote box usually has no monitor, as well as being out of reach. So schlepping over to logon to it is a real pain.) So, here's the thing: I can login (to terminal session) and can bring up programs in local windows. But WHAT program do I launch in order to bring up Gnome??
I updated Firefox today via Yast, since this time it doesn't show any page.I choosed in Configuration no proxy.The sites are empty, nothing just white.I also tried a downgrade to the previous version, didn't help.The Firewall I deactivated for test in Yast, too.A new profile didn't help, starting as administrator either not.

The problem is that if I logon from computer 1 and open some programs, I don't see these programs when I logon from computer 2.I logon with the same user, so I find this strange. Basically if a user connects to my ad-hoc network it would re-direct them to a splash page that says Welcome to xx Network and list some terms before letting them visit another page.
I have a server that was happily running Lenny. Last reboot was over 100 days ago. So I decided to fix it and install Squeeze.the upgrade went well, booted into grub. (with the grub2 test menus).When I login using the console, I get the nice GUI login, and something looks like the graphics world is being setup. The screen goes to a pretty light blue background. But there are no icons, no toolbars, no windows.I could believe something in the Xconfig is broken, say it thinks I have a much larger screen, and all the icons are off the edges. But that is only a guess.

However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...
